    For Just Us Guys

NHLAPBAND I just had the surgery a week ago so I may be in a position to give some relevant suggestions. 1) Do exactly as the doctor says, but question everything. If something doesn't make sense ASK!!! 2) If you know where your port is going to be placed start practicing sleeping away from it NOW. 3) Make sure to lose some weight before the procedure, I only lost 5 and they almost didn't do my surgery (however, they also never told me that I was supposed to lose weight before either) 4) Post any questions you may have. This seems like a pretty good group of folks. 5) Yes, be ready for pain. I am an exception that my banding was (and continues to be) very painful. From everyone I have spoken to, this is not normal, but most people do experience some discomfort. 6) Plan on at least a few days off of work. I get to work from home much of the time so this has not been a problem for me, but I do find I need a nap in the middle of the day and am much more tired than before the surgery. Other than that, Good Luck. <a href="<A href="http://www.3fatchicks.com/"><img">http://www.3fatchicks.com/"><img src="http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar02/slider-bbman/lb/317/199/297/.png" border="0"></a>

    Excruciating Pain

Thanks for all the suggestions. After 7 days the pain is a "little" less, but still pretty prevelant. The Dr's office has indicated the pain is not normal or expected, but not unheard of either. They want be to try to tough it out and see if it gets any better. So far I am doing that, but it is miserable being in this kind of pain and trying to work etc... Hopefully it ends soon.

    Excruciating Pain

I was banded 4 days ago and I am wondering when does the intense pain stop? I can sleep ok, but shortly after I get up I have intense pain underneath my sternum. No problems with the port site or any of the other incisions, but this horrible pain in my chest-upper stomach is almost unbearable. I keep telling myself to tough it out for one more day as it has to begin to get better soon, but so far it hasn't. Is this just something we have to learn to live with having the band, or will it improve eventually? And yes, before anyone tells me to talk to my banding center, I did that already. They wanted to tell me I was having a heart attack and to go to the local emergency room. My experience is that health care providers won't ever admit they have done something that may have hurt you and always want to blame someone else (especially the patient). So in summary, if anyone has any experience with this type of pain and can give me an idea how much longer it is going to last, I would be very appreciative. Thanks

    Day One

Yesterday and this morning lots of pain in abdomin and around port site. Today, less pain, but still pretty sore both topically and in the gut. Unable to urinate well due (I think) to anesthesia. Lots of diarrhea and a weight gain of 6 pounds, despite liquids only diet for 3 days. Could it get any worse?

    Less than one week.....

They have highspeed internet on my hospital floor. God I love technology. One thing I wasn't prepared for is how sore the port wound is. Really causing me some pain. They have me on toredol, but it isn't doing much for the pain. I hope this part doesn't last too long.

    Less than one week.....

I got you beat. I go in a few hours, and yes, I am nervous and anxious, but I don't think I am freaking out. I just want it done and to begin to lose weight.
  9. I just found this site 6 hours before I go to the hospital to get banded. It took 3 years of waiting for approval from my insurance company, so it is hard to believe it is finally here. I have lots of hope for success, but am a little scared now that the day is finally here. I'll report back when I get home after the procedure.
