    Dr. Gerardo Carcamo - Impressed

i had my lap band done by dr c in 2004 but i live in austin and have switched surgeons now to get a sleeve revision. he put the band in the wrong place then poked holes in my port tube. i had to have two revision surgeries. he was very hard on me for failing to keep my weight off even though it was because he unfilled my band and refused to fill it which is why i'm switching. he called me cow, a failure and many other awful things. the worst thing was the day before my knee replacement with another surgeon he said i would die on the table. my orthopedist was furious. dr is a great surgeon and did try to help me but his bedside manner in my case was terrible

    Gastric sleeve left side pain

where exactly is this shoulder pain y'all speak of? i still have my lap band and get left pain but it's in my back on the blade part. i notice it after i eat. i had my gallbladder out 30 years ago. that pain was on the right and horrific. i thought i was dying. this pain is just unpleasant
  4. I take about 20 pills and vitamins a day for various ailments. I haven't had surgery yet. I am wondering if I will still be able to take large pills just after surgery. I think everything I take can be broken in half. These are not due to co-morbitites and I will be on them for life.
  5. I'm in Austin, but my surgery isn't until January 2018. I am getting my band out in August.
  6. I feel the exact same way. I just started my 6 month diet and exercise program to qualify for insurance. So far, so good, but have always been able to diet off huge amounts of weight (60 lbs., 95 lbs, 150 lbs) but have gained it back. I feel like the sleeve is my last resort. I weigh over 400 lbs., so it's life or death for me.
  7. I had my lapband done in 2004. After continually getting aspiration pneumonia, my former surgeon in San Antonio took the fill out. I have regained 130 of my 150 lb loss due to being unfilled. Today, I saw a new surgeon in Austin (Dr. Ganta), and he scheduled me for lap band removal at the end of August. My insurance only covers revision to sleeve with being on a 6th month program for diet and exercise education. Of course, I have actually been studying those two topics for 40 years (I am 49) but that's what they require. I guess I don't practice what I learned. He will give me a sleeve in Jan 2018 after the ins requirement is met. It also gives me time for my pouch to undialte, which should give me better weight loss results during the first few months after sleeving. I'm concerned about "dieting" during those 6 months with no lapband at all. I know I can do it. I have changed my bad habits for as long as a couple of years, but like a junkie I also fall back to my old lazy sugar-snorting ways. I know my bad-itude will sabotage me even with the sleeve.
  8. i wouldn't want my stomach back but i guess it's the thought of getting rid of body parts i can never get back in case something else goes wrong. i felt the same way when i got my knee replaced. the new fake one is way better but five years out it still freaks me out that my real knee is gone forever. i know that's weird but i'm afraid of turning into darth vader. more machine than woman. having the foreign lap band inside me doesn't bother me. i think i'm afraid of getting cancer and needing my digestive system back or something. but losing the weight will make my cancer risk lower

That time of the month during surgery.

when I got my lapband in 10 years ago, I just left my tampon in and didn't say anything. But it was day surgery and no catheter.
  10. thank you for the feedback. that helps. i'm just so hungry without a fill in my band. at least with a sleeve i won't be battling with a dr all the time begging for a fill
  11. Hi All, I am considering a revsision from a lap band to a sleeve. I've gained all my 150-lbs. back from my initial weight loss. I realize there is a forum just for band-to-sleeve but I'd like to hear from people who've had their sleeve many years. I am concerned I will gain my weight back just like I always do. And then I'll be with most of my stomach gone. I am also afraid of constant nausea, diarrhea, etc. complications. I know there can always be problems. I worry because this is a no-going-back procedure. I've had problems with my lapband and it is unfilled, but now I have this option of getting it removed and trying something else. With permanent removal of part of my stomach, there's no revision to turn to. I guess bypass would be an option. So scared of that. Any replies appreciated.
  12. im looking to talk to people who have the iband. ive had my lapband for ten years and lost 150 lbs. then gained back 120. i would like to find if those with ibands have had more success than ive had with the lapband alone. thanks Kat
