hello maggie - I was sleeeved on May 4th. I am really happy that I had the surgery, and happy with my results.
I am down 31 lbs. It is not as fast as some, but better than I have ever been able to do before.
I find I will have a week of fairly consistant loosing, them plateau or go up a lb or two. I am not sure why but as long as I am loosing I am happy.
Also some weeks I am hungry and others I am not very and unable to eat much at all. I am going to take a chill approach and keep on doing what I am supposed to do- Vitamins, Water, exercise and Protein.
    good luck you you!

Hello May sleevers - my surgery was May 4th. I did 10 liquid diet before and lost 10 lb. The first few weeks I was very low energy, hungry, couldn't eat much. I lost about 10 more lb then my weight loss stalled. I actually gained a few days. I was hungry and tired. I called the NUT she was not much help- more Water, more Protein. I don't think any of it made a difference Finally everything clicked back into grear - just as everyone said it would.
I am down 29 lbs total and loosing about a half to 1 lb everyday. I am seldom hungry and can't only eat a small amount and I am satisfied. Anotherwords - Perfect!
I can't say enough good things about costo's primiere Protein shakes. Not because they taste good (they don't) but 40 grams of Protein and it really stays with you. I still use one Protein shake and 1 Isopure to get in most of my protein.
I am feeling good and very pleased with my progress.

To all of my sixty something freinds in the process of WLS or contemplating it, think about this. I had my surgery a few months before my 62nd birthday, I was almost 62 and felt almost 90. Aches in all my joints, frequent doctor appointments to monitor my co-morbidities, and nothing was getting better. I remember just feeling old and a few years from retirement and thinking, what am I going to be like when I will finally have time for myself and will I be a burden on my family as my health deteriorates. Hell, just bending over to tie my shoes was an ordeal. Does any of that sound familiar? So what's it like today? I feel 10- 15 years younger! Off most meds, no more sleep apnea, I can walk for miles, and not only can I tie my shoes with ease I can finally look down and see them. I finally feel like I can keep up with the kids, I feel like I've gotten off the bench and gone from a spectator to a participant in life. So, are we too old to go through this? Absolutely not! I know there are lots of hoops to jump through (it took me over a year), and surgery is scary, but look in the mirror and ask yourself what your life will be like if you do nothing.

Hello I really should post this on the post op side I am a May sleever- I had my surgery May 4th, Monday. I got home yesterday.
I can honestly say everything played out just as everyone said it would. It was not too bad at all, Some gas pains but nothing too bad. I was up and walking the same day.
Now I am home and still on Clear Liquids till next week.
It is a process trying to get in all the Protein and fluids. Isopure takes care of both and is a big help.
Good luck and no worries. I will check in with all the may sleevers.

Good luck to you, I hope you get your date booked soon. It seems like such a long journey leading up to the surgery.
I live in Ohio, near Dayton. I go in tomorrow for my one week check up post op. I am finally able to get in all my Protein and liquids - so that makes me feel better.
The first 2-3 days I just couldn't get it all in.
So far my post op diet is Primiere Protein shkes and Isopure 2 of each if I can manage it. I am down 14 from the beginning of my liquid diet.< /p>
That's where they get your starting weight so it is just easier to use that weight.

Well count me in to the "by the book" team. I am 5 days post-op and doing my best to meet each requirement. I am on full liquids and honestly I can't tolerate much other than Water and Isopure. I am just starting to be able to take 3 oz of Soup our yougurt.
I am not quite up to where I should be with all my Water and Protein but my doc said it would take a while.
I am going to follow all the rules and hope to have a good recovery. This surgery is my chance, I don't want to mess it up because I think I know better.

I can tell that this is going to be one of those polarizing posts where there are basically two very opposie responses. One is the "How could you?" response and the other is "What's the big deal?" response.
My one warning to newbies is that on this forum, opinions and tact will vary. Both sides are worth hearing out.
We "how could you" people are occassionally called 'goody two shoes' for following our plan as close as possible, banking on our bariatric team's expertise amd experience with many thousands of patients per year.
For the "what's the big deal" people, it is easy to find converts because it is human nature, plain and simple, to not want to deny our mouths of the tastes and textures and volume that it is used to.
There is generally no middle ground. To those who take the chance on going for it, you must be a gambler, hoping against hope that nothing bad is going to happen to you, just like tornado chasers, and teenagers who jump off the roof onto mattresses.
To the original poster, nugirl 402, I hope you will consider that if you are straying from your plan and inventing your own, that you eventually may have to backtrack and start over. It happens.
Nevertheless, you should participate in the forum as often as possible. There is a lot of valuable information here, from both sides of the fence. Your body - your choice.

I am assuming you had the surgery in order to change your lifestyle like many of the rest of us. Our own ways of eating is what led us to having surgery in the first place. This early postop I would certainly never encourage bacon OR pizza. These are both also no no foods on most surgeons post operative plans for the long term. I understand everything in moderation, but it truly makes me shake my head wondering why people would even have the surgery if they're going to just continue to eat the same high calorie foods. I am only about nine days post op and I'm struggling with the same issues you are. But I refuse to partake in contributing to any complications that could arise because of my own gross negligence. Just my two cents...

This is one of your bariatric mothers speaking...............
Bacon at 5 days?????? Are you kidding me? Dear bariatric daughter, please go to Youtube and watch a real video of the surgery you just had, to remind yourself of how brutalized your stomach is right now. You would not give bacon and eggs to a newborn, so don't expect to go complication-free if you are pushing your recovery schedule up by weeks.
At five days, you might be considering purees. At least then you could take kitchen food and run it through the blender with broth so that it is still wet enough to roll off a spoon. Even those of us with progressive surgeons don't get to soft foods any sooner than two weeks. I know you miss flavor, crunch, and chewing - we all did. But you can't let your taste buds run the show.
I don't know if you are into Bible stories, but consider the Israelites wandering through the wilderness (men did not ask for directions back then, either). God sent them manna from heaven. It was a completely nutritious edible
(although strange) food meant to sustain their bodily needs for energy and health (kind of like our Protein shakes).
But noooooooooo, they missed their leeks and onions and were very vocal about it. They were alotted so much per day (portion control). If they got greedy and gathered too much, it just rotted and got wormy.
So whether you believe it as historical fact or Aesop's fabel, the point is this: can't do liquids anymore and don't want to do liquids anymore are two different things. I encourage you to be strong and resist the temptation to satisfy your tastebuds over the proper healing of your digestive system - you sort of NEED it to survive. If you don't want to be miserable, then don't jump your plan by eating foods your stomach is not ready for. A rupture is a lot more miserable than one more Protein shake.
If you have to, put your shake in a blender and add some yogurt, vanilla, sweetener, very ripe banana, and make it thin enough to pass as a puree. Or get vanilla shakes and add your favorite flavor of fruity baby food. You will pass through these phases soon enough. This is only one month of your new lease on life. You knew going into this that it was going to be inconvenient and uncomfortable for a while. So, chin up.....you will heal in no time if you knuckle down and follow the plan your surgeon gave you. Our surgeons do enough of these that they know what works and what causes complications that you would not wish on your worst enemy.
I wish you good luck and good health. Do you darndest to get control. Your new tummy is now the boss of you and will demand respect. If that is through vomiting, diarrhea, reflux, foamies, or chest pain then Tummy has spoken. Please be kind to yourself.
I am guessing that you will do what the last poster just said and disregard the rest of us, but that indeed is your call. I would give you one caveat: at the first sign of distress, back off to the previous stage. You did this to feel better and be healthier, so if any food you eat hurts or your tummy gives it back, then you were not ready for it yet. Just be careful.

The sleeve did kind of reset my ability to feel full. I am much more careful to listen to my body and I keep the full feeling for longer. Yesterday I ate dinner and felt full for about an hour afterwards and didn't feel hungry again at all. I used to never really feel full and if I did I could eat again within the hour easily, always looking for the next thing.
I have never vomited due to anything I ate. I dry heaved once while I was sick and coughing way too much.
After recovery, I now eat all meats/cheese/nuts. Eventually I'll be able to add in vegetables, but for now I need the space for Protein. I usually do a couple of cheese sticks for Breakfast, a premier Protein shake for lunch (convenient for work), some chicken or other meat for dinner, and some bacon and unsalted roasted peanuts in the shell for "second dinner".
My stomach doesn't feel any different except I get full a lot faster and I don't get the hungry feeling as often.
It has changed how I do business in my life. I'm very careful to track everything I eat in MFP, and I make my food decisions based on my Protein count for the day. I literally only eat meat, cheese, and nuts (along with some various mustards and vinaigrettes). My carbs are usually under 20, although if I eat a premier Protein Bar, it can be as high as 45. I don't just "go with the flow" with food anymore. I preplan what I'm going to have with me if I go out for the day (always Water, sometimes a protein snack/meal). If we're going out to dinner I look up a menu/nutrition info and choose before I leave the house. I exercise every day and am determined to get the most out of my honeymoon period as possible. I plan on always tracking in MFP, exercising, and planning meals. The main thing I think will change when I'm at goal is that my balance of protein and carbs will be a little different when I can eat more calories- although I'll definitely be talking to my NUT when that time comes.
    Good luck to you!

I did not have a revision, but I did get my sleeve done march 11, it is great! Yes you can eat too fast and have the stuck feeling, yes you can eat and vomit also! The thing is that you are not starving or so hungry that you want to "shove it in" at least not me. I no longer live to eat I now eat to live! My mother has the band and she struggles daily with it, she is still hungry, because of course they do not remove the hunger hormone when they do the band, but with the sleeve a lot of those hunger hormones are removed thus for you are not hungry all the time! I do feel full after just a few bites of food and I stop. I do not feel that my stomach feels any different, just that it's sore inside from surgery, I had mine sewn done inside because of other reasons so I am just a little sore. Just don't eat too big of bites and chew your food and stop when your new tummy tells you to and you will do great! liquids liquids liquids and then soft liquids and then eggs, tuna, cottage cheese , yogurt, cheese, some moist chicken ground turkey meat, deli meats, plus every doctor is different!! Good luck

I will have some pre-op testing and meet with the Dr again in about 2 wks. I think I d have to do a liquid diet for about a week.
good luck to both of us. Let's track our progress on here.
