Mel24 got a reaction from Luigi5144 in Huge surprise: Approved!
I got a call on Wednesday from the insurance person at the Dr. office. I figured it was to tell me she was ready to submit the application, even though we had to wait 3 months for supervised WL. Turns out she was calling to tell me she had already submitted and it's been approved! I was flabbergasted! I figured I would have to finish the SWL and then submit at the very end of May. Then hope to have surgery by July!
Today, I got the call from the scheduler and I am scheduled for Monday May 4! I have my pre-op appointment/class on April 15, so I will know more then. I do know that I will NOT have to do a 2 week liquid diet, only 24 hours.
So I had mentally prepped for July, not early May (like 5 weeks). I am trying to wrap my head around this, I know I "want" to do this, but now actually having the guts to go through it... that's a different story. I have never had surgery before and it's making me nervous.
Little back ground: Have Cigna insurance; Did weight watchers continually (and still do) for 4 years; had mental health counseling a couple years ago for WL; currently on Contrave (new WL drug).

Mel24 got a reaction from Mremilio in May Sleevers...where are you?
I began my journey on 2/20, and it looked like it would be a July surgery date to comply with a 3 month WL period. However they approved me (in 1 day) because I had been doing weight watchers and other things prior.
I am all approved (as of 3/25) and they were booked out all of April. So I am ready to roll on 5/4! I have a pre op class that I need to do on 4/15 where they will give me all the post op info, prescriptions, and more pre op details. I do know that I just need to keep up on a lower carb/high Protein diet. I don't have to do liquids until the day before (So Saturday night will be my last meal before Monday's surgery).
So I bumped up a couple months, and it's messed with me too.I am nervous, and I am keeping it quiet to my family. My sister had VSG done 9 weeks ago, and she's trying to talk me out of it. She doesn't think I can do it, and I won't tell them until I've finished the pre op class. My b-day is 4/24 so I am thinking dinner at the Melting Pot as a final indulgent meal.

DITTO! I am May 4 too!

Mel24 reacted to Shanea in Sleeved, now what to do about the gurgling noises?
The gurgle is annoying, but normal. As a matter of fact, the gurgling was so loud when I went to bed tonight that my husband was freaking out about the noise. My kids think that it is hilarious, especially when it is quiet and my gurgler goes off.

I have the gurgling too especially after I eat and that also is away for me to know I am full.

Are you referring to pain in the area of the incision site? The larger left incision was the worst for me. It was very difficult to get up from sitting or laying down, it felt like I had done 1000 crunches. Is that the pain you mean?

Agreed! Chapstick is a must. My poor lips are so chapped, I had to ask for vaseline. Maybe deodorant too.

You will be pretty out of it an won't need much. I brought my own personal products. The stuff they give you in the hospital is fine, but its nice to have your own stuff. Chapstick and lotion were also helpful. It gets very dry. I even brought a back scratcher, which was my best friend while I was in the hospital. I was itchy all over. Definitely bring the cell phone and charger.
Your wife will want to bring things to keep her occupied. You will sleep most of the time, so she will need to occupy herself. She may also want to bring some slippers and comfortable clothes. She won't look out of place on the floor and will be much more comfortable.

I had it for 1-2 days and then it stopped. I didn't take anything for it... I assumed my body needed the cleanout, it just stopped on its own. It is very very common, people refer to it as a "liquid in, liquid out" episode.

It would be easiest to layer a tank top under your shirt. It will still cover anything (butt crack, granny panties, spanks) if your shirt raises up.

Try using tepid Water instead of cold. And use the water-enhancer drops, as well. These 2 tricks really did it for me. Good luck!

just had my VSG surgery last Thursday, and I was nervous & excited too. I'd had surgery before, but not elective. The support you will get is amazing, and they do this all the time. Best advice I can give you is to do everything like they tell you, use the pain meds, sip Water, do your breathing exercises and walk. Walking is the best for the gas and the gas is the really uncomfortable part after surgery. Don't be afraid to ask the nurses for help and advice - they are good friends in the process. You are going to be great - and starting a new path to health and care for yourself. I just had to keep thinking about the "why" ....it helped me with the low points and hopefully it will help you through the temporary discomforts.

I'm not much further ahead of you - but I am excited for you!

Mel24 reacted to jessiquoi in Panic attacks and anxiety post-op
I have panic attacks, but they are controlled by medication. I've been sleeved 5 months, and the only time I've had an attack is when I don't take my meds. They seem totally unaffected by my sleeve.
The only difference is that eating used to be an alternate drug for quenching the anxiety (if for whatever reason I hadn't been taking my meds). That's gone now. I try to always remember my medication for this reason.

My mom died a few days ago. Getting around for her memorial. I decided to get fitted for a bra at VS. I wear a 38 dd. I wore a 38 dd. I walked out with a perfectly fit 38 C!!! I can't believe how tiny it looks. My head says there ain't no way. The mirror disagreed. Still can't get over it. It's sooo pretty.
