    Do you eat popcorn?

Actually, I'm not sure if my doctor agrees or not about popcorn. But it makes a great snack that satisfies my desire for something that crunches. I found some 100 calorie packs for the microwave and keep them in my desk at work to enjoy on break. No leftovers or having to wait forever on the microwave. gk

    How often do you PB?

Unfortunately, way more often than I want to. But it's usually because I get really and in a hurry to eat. So I take great care to slow down and eat small amounts frequently . gk :rolleyes2:
  3. have you tried unfinished furniture? That's what DW and I did. We found used(but in good condition) dresser, rocker, and changing table. The only new furniture was the crib. $ was tight and I painted it all myself. Simple, but it worked well for the first 2 kids. Later, after a couple of moves and even tighter times we 'made do' with all used stuff for twins. Go for all you can.
  4. I used to prefer FireFox on my PC, but I switched to an IMAC recently and am finding that I love Safari. gk

    Sugar Test

Actually the test you mention is not used very much in the last decade or so. Instead a diagnosis of gestational diabetes or diabetes is established by 2 or more fasting blood sugar tests. Usually a fasting over about 100 2x about 3-4 weeks apart is sufficient for the diagnosis. A glycosolated Hemiglobin [HGA1C] may also be used to determine a diagnosis of diabetes. This test reflects the relative blood sugar for the previous 90 days. Normal is about 6.5-7, diabetics (not gestational) frequently have 9+. :thumbs_up:Best suggestion, ask you ob/gyn or PCP which if any is needed in your case. good Luck & Lord bless gk

    I've lost 100 pounds today!

    Hurrah! for YOU! 3 Cheers:thumbup::scared2::thumbup:
  8. DW and I were banded by Dr Marsden about 5 weeks apart. I'm used to buying here clothes in the 18W-22W range. Yesterday I decided to surprise her with a new outfit for all her hard work. I bought an outfit at Macy's with the top and bottom in size 14. I thought it might be incentive to work a bit harder. Low and behold, I brought it home and she tried it on and it FIT PERFECTLY. WOW I can't remember the last time she was able to wear that size. Way to go EgorsGirl!!! :rolleyes2::thumbup::biggrin: gk

    Okay Men...need some advice

I'm a guy, and proud of it. That said, the most attractive attire a woman can wear is a happy, confident smile. Nothing else matters, guys that are looking for quality will recognize a woman like that. What you wear of look like will not be a factor. Despite the media we are bombarded with there are fewer than 1/10 of 1 percent of the population that qualifies as 'supermodel'. Shallow is a good description of how they are for the most part, and of course there are exceptions to every rule. Concentrate on learning to adjust to your new self and being happy. You'll be surprised at how things change then. Good Luck and CONGRATULATIONS on your accomplishment, :rolleyes2: gk
  10. 1. The same exercise everyday does no good. You have to increase either the intensity of the exercise or the duration. So either walk faster or longer. 2. Even though the scale may not be reflecting a change in weight, you may be losing body fat, by converting it to muscle. Muscle is more dense than fat, so you may be changing. Try getting a simple body fat percentage machine. You can find them online or at in the exercise department of most stores. 3. Learn to stop BEFORE you feel full. If you are getting pain when you eat too much, that is exactly the problem. A. Slow down, take at least 20-30 minutes to eat a meal B. measure your food(don't eyeball it) C. Get smaller silverware to eat with. It will help you slow down. D. CHEW, CHEW,CHEW, CHEW! it also helps to slow you down and to allow your body to send the signals that tell you enough. I speak from practical experience, but I just got banded today. Good Luck and don't get discouraged. gk

Add 2 more votes for Dr Marsden! Egorsgirl and I have both been banded by him[me just today 5/14 as a matter of fact]. We really like his caring and sense of humor. gk

    Newly Banded 05/14/08

Hey, he's not the only one, I was banded today too. I'm looking forward to losing some of this weight. I've yo-yo'd for years. Congratulations. gk

What are you doing with all your clothes?

Well, the support group we (Egorsgirl and I) has an occasional clothing exchange. People bring in their clothes that are too big and get something smaller. Works out great for everyone. But if I had my way, Egorsgirl would just have to run nekkid!

    Worried

If it's been 7 years, you've worked past the event in some form or fashion. If you have been under treatment since(therapy, anti-depressents etc) then weight loss might be a great contributor to lessening the depression. Either way, just go hve the evaluation done. If you can go to your regular psychiatrist, so much the better. gk

    It's OFFICIAL!

You heard it here first. I'm scheduled to have lapband on May 14th. Finally! Glen
  16. My wife was just banded on 4/9, and I won't be banded until 5/14, but we have been 'practicing' when we eat out. We've done several things. 1. We both have a set of small 'bandster' silverware that we carry in a net bags everywhere. These help us to take smaller bites while eating. 2. We agree on an entre' and split it. When we went to Olive Garden and had the herbed salmon last week, the waiter was great. We asked for an extra plate and he actually split the meal onto seperate plates for us. No leftovers and no extra charge. 3. We time ourselves while eating. Minimum 20 minutes, 30 minutes is even better. No big production or timers, we just check one of our watches. 4. When I'm by myself, I feel sort of strange with the minature utensils, so instead I go to a chinese place and use chopsticks. Slows me down reduces the size of bites I take. give it a try gk

Would be interested in progress pictures?

Thank You Wheetsin & Kat both. I'm afraid you are right about a) most people don't care to involve another party, seems that most are using pictures for private tracking. and :tongue_smilie: with the prevalence of digital camera, a professional is not really needed, at least for weight loss. Pregnancy is a different question I think & I will be pursuing that later. I'm still learning photography, but I hope to be professional by the time I reach 30 years with my company (8 more years). Thanks again for the input. Glen
  21. In progress pictures §How often? Weekly? Monthly? Quarterly? §What information would you want included? Date? Weight? Weight loss? Measurements – arms, chest, waist, thigh, other? §Would you want prints? §Would you want a version to post to the Web? §Would you be interested in a composite of several pictures to show your progress? §Would you like to use the same location, same clothes, etc. for comparison purposes? §Would you be interested in a more formal session when you have reached goal? §What do you think such a service should be priced? Do you have any other photography suggestions? gk

    Moody as hell

As a matter of fact, you probably aren't the only one experiencing these symptoms. It actually has nothing to do with the band, being female or anything else. It's just that time of the month.....:wink2:Get your mind out of the gutter! The full moon occurred at 625am today(at least in Central Time zone). I have seen countless examples of the full moon affecting behavior. When I was an EKG tech in a hospital almost 30 years ago we could count on weird things, accidents, emergencies, happening on or about the full moon. I work in a call center now and we can always tell by the behavior of our customers that the full moon is approaching. The closer to the full moon, the more bizarre the behavior we see. Seems like the best way to deal with the full moon is just to keep out of the line of fire. So I suggest go to bed, take a book, tell DH or SO to take a hike and wait it out. Good Luck gk

Would be interested in progress pictures?

Judging by the lack of responses, I thought I might give this a little bump. A few words of explanation. I am not a professional photographer at this point, but I am learning and wondered if this might be a worthwhile option. I'm planning on having lapband myself soon, my paperwork just went to the insurance this week. So I have a much different view of a person with lapband than someone that doesn't. Thanks for any input. Glen

    If I were thinner I'd.....

I think I'd take up ballroom dancing. Dancing with the Stars has really attracted my attention. But right now a 300+ lb guy in hat & tails just doesn't fit with any image I ever had of myself. Maybe next summer when Egorsgirl and I are both smaller. :rolleyes2: gk
  25. Note to all you ladies: We guys like to see women in skirts and you don't have to be a size 2 to be appreciated. Marilyn Monroe was a size 12. Look at some other famous women that were not rail thin. Sara Ramirez on Grey's Anatomy, Kate Walsh, same show. Check out America Ferrera on Ugly Betty! Now that's not to say that guys like their women big(politically incorrect=fat). We love our women with curves. I bet every woman on this board is developing wonderful healthy curves. Thank You ladies for doing this and enriching the view for us guys all over the world. I think I may have to change my sig to "The Guy that Loves Women" that is if egorsgirl will let me. :crying:
