Starting my account with bariatricpal : All reviews with websites supporting weight loss surgery , I fell as a calling really that I need to provide my input with my success as well with my wife also. Hardest part of my day is What am I going to eat for breakfast , What am I going to eat today ? Usually I skip breakfast (horrible I know) I feel breakfast is really the most important part of your day. This is when we are going to step out into the world and deal with the various task through out the day.

Question For those who have done/are doing Atkins
LPSteven replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Love my sweets : Nothing better than picking up a Ice coffee (medium) 2 equals 9 creams, half shot of mocha and half shot of caramel. mmmm yummy. Not sure if you are aware of putting your body in the right state of ketosis but with the akins plan you can get yourself started. I never stuck to the Akins 100 % : if you can keep the mind set of staying away from yeast/sugar foods will help. yes that ice coffee drink (no mocha or caramel shots) just add a few equals up to 5 at the most. Remember you don't want to caramelize your foods when cooks , thus that is sugar content being built up with those foods. Example : cooking onions ideally you don't want them to blacken. -
Can anyone give me an idea of a regular day of what you eat?
LPSteven replied to Christy Z's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
ah this is the page I need to be on! Been looking for a place for other people with lap band to chat about the various foods. last night I had "Zucchini Lasagna" : I loved this dish. The trick is that you have to dry out the zucchini and you have to have them sliced very thin. I also used turkey meat (chopped up good) and all the regular items that involves Lasagna. "A must Try" Few other italian dishes : Stuff peppers , Zucchini enchiladas. Anyone welcome to message me. Love my chilly when it is cold outside, but having the lap band at a success for over 6 years , oh boy did I get tired of eating the same foods. :-) -
Daily nutrition facts?
LPSteven replied to Wannabeamotherof9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
good base line to go off of is 3-5 ozs of protien and 1-2 ozs of veggies. Biggest thing is the daily Vitamins that will help you avoid deficiencies. Clearly , your carbs is something you won't be able to avoid , yet selecting the right Carbs is ideal. Avoid : yeast/sugar foods. :-) and make sure you when you are cooking like for your Onions to say : try not to caramelize them (if you do). Caramelization process adds sugar oddly I found out. Welcome to shoot me a message whenever. Good luck. -
do you crush all your medications?
LPSteven replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah never crush , only split if the medication. I have walked away from taking some of those large pills for my daily Vitamins and have been using some of the AdvoCare supplements : helps out alot and also keeping me consistent with working out (when I can) -

After losing 200 pounds and having so many "high school" friends try to have lunch, talk, etc. my wife was worried at first but she trusted me and knew that I wanted to let them have a "touch" of just interacting with me after my transformation. "Eat your words" girls I say. Because long time ago you didn't give me a chance and they will never have one - other than lunch

Someone needs to be a lot more supportive of you with this : otherwise focus on you and this diet. Akins protein shakes I loved !! I use to make my own. Popsicles with the shakes . See if that works - Or since you are just starting out try going to Dunkin Donuts and get a small/medium ice coffee with 3 equals 9 creams and 1 shot of mocha . Sometimes I would say half shoot of mocha and half shot of Carmel - mmm yummy

My husband and I are BOTH getting sleeved!
LPSteven replied to Newlife@55's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Not to knock down the Sleeve ; if you don't mind me asking why the sleeve and not he band ? The band does take longer to get results yet the sleeve could possibly bring issues (not knocking down the sleeve) just my wife and I did the band and I lost 200 pounds (6 years) and my wife lost 140 (5 years) I think it is awesome couples helping each other I don't think I could have done it without her. Please proof is in the pictures and I have a few on my profile of us. Thank you and best of luck -
Approved with a date of Feb 9th!

Awesome job !! Congrats you are on your way there - welcome to send me a message whenever. Hey as a cool tip I use to drink the broth from the Ramien noodle containers (no noodles, remember) -
It does not have to be clear liquid - the purpose of having just fluids is to lighten up the liver for surgery. Keep in mind you can't go out and have a milk shake. I use to love boiling up chicken broth (cubes) or beef. Other favors I worked with was from the Ramien selection ; just for the fluid and flavor. Hope this helps. Also "spark" from advo care was a great source for fluids during the day for me

That is per the doctor - my surgeon is no longer doing lap band and referred me to the doctors taking over his practice . I was advised it would cost just to talk to him basically (consult) just so they have my records. I have been a success for over 6 years. Personally for me - I'm not going to the doctor for $100 just for me to tell him that I am perfectly fine

Glad everything is going good for you

Main importance when eating is to have some nice warm water and to also drink a few Oz.'s of water before you eat (5-10 mins) if your are drink fluids that have salt, carbonation and that are really cold . This will give you a very hard time to eat. Think about when you have those few nibbles of food and drink a soda or something cold. What happens ? Chemical reaction and we do not have the room in our stomach for any "crazy stuff to happen" cold fluids will make the stomach shrink. Please any consult send me a message . 7 years success with lap band and I have been a mentor for a very long time . Always willing to help. Per the movements for the beginning of this thread : I had the hardest time for about 3 weeks - once I got on a ok eating habit things started to loosen up and be easier

Try looking at the Akins diet plan : most important part is when and if you can get your body into ketosis. Try picking up the measuring strips at your local drug store. Keep in mind - your deciding to change your life forever with a new way of living and staying at a healthy weight. I honestly didn't think I could - all depends how much you are wanting to commit yourself -
First Pre Op Appointment, Dr blew me off
LPSteven replied to FindingSassy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just remember your body still has swelling inside of you. throwing up is false - usually when your stomach rejects the food you create an acid. What your probably going through is a rejection of the content you consumed. Usually when the surgeon installs the lap band it should be at "zero" adjustment . If not then it is possible your band needs to have all fluid removed : let the body settle with that adjustment then work towards a CC increase to adjust the band. It takes time to understand what your body can do, everyone is slightly different in their own way. Welcome to send me a message or email me for more information. -
Introduction (myself)
LPSteven posted a blog entry in LPSteven (lost 205 lbs/7years Lap Band) : OPEN Question forum I want to HELP YOU. Make it a success
Just would like to say "Awesome job" for everyone coming to this site and strive for a better health. My family has a long hard history of generation of "men" having serious heart attacks. Just after my father had one this is when I found out of my blood line "GREAT" evening being at a heavy 414 pounds at that time , I really needed to figure things out. Once I returned home (father is ok, now) I really worked on what am I going to do with getting this weight off and off for good. Clearly , Lap band was my choice. Now, prior to doing lap band about 7 years ago. I tried all the weight lost schemes : Jenny Craig, Richard Simmons (old school), Weight watchers, and all the various others. After, my first visit with Dr. Levine (Ormond Beach Hospital , Fl) I knew this was going to be a success , but WORK and Dedication will have to be consistent. So , I had to go through the 6 month process for the insurance company to approve my surgery. I was in and out of the hospital 4 hours and was on the couch for 1-3 days. I could have went to work on the second day, yet since I never take off of work I figured why not and give my body to heal more. Remember, I just had something attached to my internal body and really needed to know how to work with it. Lap Band is a tool and if used right it can be one of the strongest assets to your body to preserve it. I have gone through the band getting stuck, even with changed jobs where I was working outside and needed more protein and fluids , I was in need of an adjustment (remove 1cc). When I return back to the office environment another adjustment was applied (inserted 1cc) "everything back to normal". My wife also had the lap band done 6 years for her and lost of 140 pounds. Having her with me in support of the goal we was looking for , really helped. ** That is why I am creating this BLOG for people who are starting out or currently have lap band. This is a open topic. All information is good information. With having the Band for so long I really feel above anyone when it comes to dieting. "yes" I don't have those 6 pack abs, well maybe it is because I haven't applied myself to do so. Kinda got very happy for the first time in my life I was able to do a "Pull UP" at the age 31 I finally got it. Bucket list item "Check" :-) Biggest troubles I am seeing now and my wife is experiencing is our daily Vitamins to avoid any type of Deficiencies. My goal is done losing all this weight , Now keeping my vitamins in me on a daily basis is a hard task. For the past , year so far now I have used Advocare. NOT SELLING this product > but the powder formulas for my personal intake have helped me alot and I know with research I am getting the nutrients. But really with the various offers I have received to help people with Lap Band and now starting to know this is a calling for me. I need to help others, I love helping and especially seeing a strive to a better living then watching those goals reached. Its an amazing feeling. My wife and I are good ol' people who use to work crazy hours only getting paid $8-11 an hour when we started our life together and in the work force. So I am on here for the real. I'll give answers that are true and share the passion as you trying to reach your goals. Also, raised a 10 year old son you may see on the pictures. I am here for you so please -
Slow Fills? Normal? When you actually start losing weight?
LPSteven replied to Dukeuni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ideally , you want to have less per every visit. Sounds crazy when you know you can handle more CC. Really, take the time and have the body get use to the adjustment and yourself with daily eating. I was banded 6 years ago and took 16 weeks to get myself adjusted to "Perfection" . I also had to have some Fluid removed when I started a job that required me to eat more Protein (outside construction work) , yet I have gotten back in the office and did have another adjustment to scale down the amount of food I have per meal. Remember , ideally 4-6 Oz of the right food. Should be good for you. -
