    Hello there,
It has been a while since my last question as I have been dealing with my ups and downs on post surgery and my struggles with what the heck to eat that doesn't look like vomit that took a spin in a blender. UGH.
I am 16 days post op. I can take liquids down just not as fast. Still struggling to hydrate and reach up to 64oz of Water (impossible right now) and still feeling my way around food but cannot eat solids yet. Still drinking the Protein shakes which I am so over about.
I have lost 15 pounds since my surgery. Weight from surgery is 253 and I am at 238 this morning. However, I have been 238 for a few days now. No changes. Apparently, there is some kind of stall going on. Not sure why, since I barely make it to 400 calories a day!
Anyone has insight on why the sudden weight loss stall? Obviously I am not over eating if I can barely make it to 400 calories, I am hydrating as much as I can, and I do my walks every day. At least 30 mins.
Sleeve veterans, please...do you know why?
I have my follow up with my surgeon tomorrow 1st time since the surgery.

Come to think of it, it's true that a few weeks after surgery I was quite cranky but who wouldn't be? You just had a major surgery, you're getting used to your new stomach your new habit, you're stressful most of the time because you're nervous that you might do everything wrong. You didn't get enough Protein, you didn't enough Water. then you hit stall, your hair started to fall, you didn't know how to join the big dinner, you're worried how to eat out with people, you didn't know how to tell people at work etc etc. It will pass when you're settled with all new things, you will gain more confidence and you will (eventually) be at peace.
Today I chatted briefly with a colleague, she was surprised with my transformation and asked how I did and I just simply told her tha "I had a surgery", just simpe as that. And she just replied, good for you! A couple of months ago I'd probably just smile and tell her I was on a diet but at this moment I feel more confident to tell people a simple truth.
I stil don't tell everyone though, but I am now more open about my surgery, I only tell who I feel like I want to, some of them (like this colleague) I'm not even close with. I just know that they're open-minded enough.

I was very irritable my first few weeks after my surgery however it seemed to fade away. It is a major lifestyle adjustment and took a while to accept that in my head ( as well as my body)

Ever since my surgery I have been short tempered. I've always been mild natured and it took a lot to make me angry. Now I seem to get angry all the time, go overboard in my reactions, talk and say things I don't mean and all of this leads to extreme guilt and emotional pain.
Counselor says I need to give myself a break as my body is in such a state of flux, but its easier said then done.

My surgery was 1/15 and I went home on 1/16. Maybe the Kidney issue is common, I kept thing my back pain was from surgery and come to find out I had passed a stone and had an infection. Once that passed I felt so much better, I am having issues with getting in all my Protein I am kinda over the shakes. But I am also feeling really good! ????

Me! Me! I'm a January Sleever!
January 12 surgery, home on the 14th. Rough go of it at first, I had a kidney infection. Once that was squared away, I feel like a million bucks!
I really haven't struggled with cravings or any stomach issues. I've been sticking mostly to Protein "shakes" and broth (and lots and lots of water). So far so good. The only real complaint I have is the pill crushing thing. Ugh! It's so gross!

My NUT cleared me for mushies today. My lunch after: a scrambled egg made in butter with half a laughing cow cheese. I could only eat half of it, but wow it was good after all those cloying chemicals. Next up: refried Beans? Ricotta bake? Pumpkin-coconut curry Soup? ? THE OPTIONS ARE ENDLESS!

It never occurred to me that you meant anything else. Some people are very touchy. As a candidate for surgery it would be natural to worry that you may be choosing the wrong surgery if you get the sense that people you know personally are eating poorly/large portions so soon after surgery.

Thank you Erp, I really am not judging anyone I have been judge plenty in my life I am a very open minded supportive person and I will always treat people the way I want to be treated! When I posted the first post I did not state or ask it the right way so now I'm the enemy. You are right I am just naive to how people can eat after surgery. Trust me I read I read constantly! I have studied and studied this life that I am about to enter, and I guess I learn something new every day!

Yes I understand what everyone is saying. like I said I do not know how I will be, I guess I'm just praying that I don't want to eat bad. I love junk food, it's my enemy, I don't judge anyone I guess I'm just kinda surprised that they or anyone can stomach that food after surgery, I guess they can, huh. Well yes I will probably eat bad at times because God and I both know I'm not perfect! I just really pray that I don't fall back into these bad eating habits that I have had! Please don't get me wrong I know every one of us is in this same boat and I pray for all of us to do good and make the right choices.

I would invite you to stop judging what other are eating. It's no more your business what they're eating than it is their business what you choose to eat pre-op or post op. Let it go and you'll be much saner through this experience. You'll choose to do what you choose to do post op, but consider a long term strategy that includes not trying to be "perfect". Seriously, there are no "good" or "bad" foods! There IS abusing nutritionally shallow or high calorie foods which is what got most of us into the situation where we felt we needed to take the risk of WLS.
Some choose to "swear off all bad foods" forever and that works for them, but I'm one of those who chooses not to "diet" post op. I dieted for 40 years and it got me nothing but a cycle of guilt, food obsession, giving in, rinse, repeat. I eat the occasional corn dog. I eat the occasional chicken strip. I eat the occasional desert, but typically only a bite or two. I lost well and maintain well by making high quality food choices about 80% of the time and not feeling one bit guilty about the other 20%! It's given me a freedom from food addiction that I didn't think was possible. For me, anyway the key is never overeating and maintaining good habits and balance in all things.

I agree with one thing you said -- you are pre-op and you DON'T know what you will do yet.
I, too, had the sleeve. On Tuesday, I went to Chick Filet and ordered the (fried) chicken Strip meal with waffle fries and a Coke Zero. I ate the chicken in a mayo/hot sauce mix which is far fattier than gravy (gravy actually being a really great choice). I am sure if I had told the world about my surgery, I, too, would have been judged for my choices as you are doing with these ladies. (Huge reason I decided to keep my surgery to myself.)
What you would not have seen:
I had a super busy morning that included a 45 minute workout and I had no time for Breakfast. After my workout, I put my fitbit on and started my day. I knew I was only get to see my youngest for about 45 minutes between school and a conference I was speaking at that evening, so I let her pick the lunch spot. I ate one chicken strip, put the rest of the food back in the bag to take to my oldest who was at work at our martial arts school (our usual routine) and took the Coke Zero with me. I had a conference that I was speaking at that afternoon/evening, so I was a bit on edge, and I didn't eat any dinner. (I did have a few Hershey Kisses, though.) Over the course of the day, I logged in 15k steps AFTER my workout. (Nervous pacing?) I consumed less than 800 calories. My choices were the best they could be given my circumstances... Eh -- no they weren't, but that's life.
Last night, I got home for dinner at 8pm and realized I hadn't eaten anything but a string cheese and a handful of almonds. My husband made taco salad, but I am not much for lettuce so I made nachos. With jalapenos. Nom nom nom. Again. less than 800 calories in the day -- far less -- and while my portion size looked big, I barely ate any. Not that I need to justify it, just pointing that out.
The thing I hated about telling the world I was doing WWs or Atkins or South Beach? The food Police. What I put in my face is between me, my doctor and my pants size. It's no one else's business. If I ask someone their opinion, that's a different story but I am guessing these ladies didn't ask you.
Anywho... I am sure you will do GREAT with your surgery and I am sure you will make the best choices for you. If these ladies fail miserably, that's on them, not you, but I do hope that you never feel judged, cuz that sucks.
    Edit!
OH! And I was "lucky" enough to have insurance pay for me because I struggled to get a job that would provide that for me. I had the will power to hit goal within a year of surgery and maintain it for the last 10 or so months.

I am having one of those days today. I am so irritated that I can't eat a normal meal. (only small). I can't swallow shit. (liquid is easy). It sucks to cook for my boyfriend to make sure he eats because he still has a stomach. And as I prepare things, I say, why I can't I have a little bit of this and that? You know what really did it? I was preparing him a salad and putting croutons. I said, one crouton won't hurt. Well, I sit here regretting the stinking crouton because it feels like it is stuck. God knows I chewed that sucker until it was nothing, but still.
I am just having a bad day I guess.

Hi all, I was sleeved on Monday 1/19. It has taken me a few days to feel better, when I came home I was in a lot of pain from the gas and IV Fluid. I made my husband hide the scale because I know I'm still bloated. I'm on a liquid diet for 2 more weeks. I can only get about 48 oz of liquid in at this point. Just made a big pot of chicken Soup and vegetable stock so hopefully that will help as I cannot tolerate Water I've been reading this forum for the past few months whiled I prepared for my surgery and have learned so much. Excited to be a part of the January group!

I think all of us on the liquid stage are experiencing the I need to chew something experience. Its so frustrating. I know eventually we all will be able to eat some solid food but it is really hard. I'm whining about it but honestly I don't really care what is two more weeks when I've lost almost 20lbs in two weeks? I couldn't lose 20lbs in a month before if I tried. I'm feeling great and I def don't miss solid food that much. Good luck to all you and stay strong this is the part that really test or strength and dedication to our new way of life!

One thing I've noticed is that as people are losing, they get kind of that melted/hollowed out look... especially in their faces, but once their weight stabilizes, their faces fill back out again or their skin shrinks down or whatever and they don't have that "sick" look anymore. Maybe that's the case for you right now, since you are still steadily losing.

Went for my check up today and all is going great! I am down 30 pounds from day of surgery and I cannot believe how much better I feel. Being back in the 100's is a pleasure that I just never could describe. I know it is just a number but, to me, it is like I scaled Mt. Everest!. I have dropped 3 pant sizes and look so much better in clothes. My knees, back and hips don't hurt like they did anymore. I look forward to seeing even more improvement in the next few months. I am over 55 years old and this is absolutely, without a doubt, the best thing I have ever done for ME......maybe the only thing I have ever really done for ME! This is soooo my year!

I was sleeved on Monday. I'm on full liquids for 4 weeks. When I was making my shakes with milk I was having terrible pains the second I swallowed the smallest sip. Did not have that problem with plain Water. Switched to almond milk and the pain and spasms have subsided. I think I may have issues with lactose. Been getting in about 55 oz of Fluid counting my fluids from the shakes. About 60 g of Protein.< /p>

@@soubifan700 Did you doctor not give you anything for the hernia like liquid Zantac. Only reason I'm asking is because the growling is usually associated with that and can give people the mistaken impression that they are hungry and cause over eating. I take mine first thing in the morning and it helps the growling and gurgling sounds coming from my tummy. Good luck with recovery and since you are a January Sleever there is a post op thread with tons of people including me who all had our surgery recently.

I think a lot of folks ate a healthier diet prior to surgery. I love vegetables and healthy fats. I'm not a fan of the after taste caused by artificial sweeteners. I think those cab be added back in with the help of a nutritionist. I think the goal would be to do that over time. Something that is not enjoyable will not be sustainable over time. I love to cook. I'm just 3 days post op and I think you can have a lot of healthy Protein rich food from scratch. I will be eating more dairy than normal but I think there is definitely room to eat organic and less processed foods soon enough.
