  1. @@flygirl022812 Your surgeon should detail a lot of that information for you. I just had my surgery a little over a week ago and one thing I quickly learned was that my taste buds have shifted. The protein drinks I was having pre-op are tasting very very different to me post op. A lot of them I don't enjoy anymore and now I kind of have to start the tasting process all over again. As far as vitamins, I have a mix of vitamins from Celebrate and from Bariatric Advantage.
  2. If your surgeon gave you an eating plan, I would say stick to that. I'm in my Week 2 post op and trying foods from a limited list. Eggs and refried beans were on there so that's what I had for my first food. Her advice says yogurt goes down best but I learned today that that's not true for me. If it went down well then it's probably ok but double check with your surgeon.
  3. GIRL. I struggled with this exact same nonsense a couple of days ago. Crying all over myself and wallowing. Apparently, It's totally normal. My doctor had a really sensible explanation for it. Your body is burning fat and releasing stored hormones. Weight loss surgery causes a major shift in emotions. I cried over a Facebook video today. And it wasn't even anything sad. It was a bunch of puppies. I have a thread somewhere in this forum where Alex and several others gave a ton of really good advice for this. I hope you start feeling better soon. This too shall pass ❤️
  4. I got advanced to soft foods finally. I had a scrambled egg and two tbsp if refried beans. It was the greatest thing ever. Today I had yogurt and it didn't seem to like me :-/. I'm thinking the next few months is going to be a whole lot of trial and error. Guess I'll start getting ready to open up Chef Blashlee's Test Kitchen!
  5. Still struggling to get all my liquids and protein in, mostly because of changing tastes. Dr says this is due to ketosis and should level out soon. I discovered Unjury chicken soup protein today. What a godsend. Had my first post op visit and my dr says everything looks fantastic and I'm healing well. All the crap I've been enduring is totally normal including my terribly mood swings LOL she said the first month or two is the hardest and pretty soon I'll be looking back on it and laughing. I hope she's right.
  6. I think I had it this morning. I drank one of my premier Protein shakes without diluting it, and I finished the last 1/3 of it much faster than I intended to cuz I was nursing it for over an hour and it was starting to warm. About 3 minutes after the last swallow my heart started to increase and I felt warm, kinda like when I get nervous or anxious. Then I had diarrhea about 3 times. Realized the only way to feel better was to lay down. I slept for about half an hour and felt much better. I didn't expect it to happen from a Protein shake, especially one with only 1g of sugar. So I'm guessing it was because I drank too fast and my stomach just wasn't ready.
  7. It is all good hon, if you ever need to talk or get out of the house, let me know. Also I have been going to the Sharp meetings if you want to come. Actually going to the nutrition meeting tonight. Glad you are healing well, I am feeling okay physically myself, just get worn out easy. Same. I pushed the cart around costco on Saturday and immediately fell asleep in the car on the way home. I sent you a message earlier, I'd be down to visit one of the sharp meetings. My surgeon has her support group only once a month and most of the attendees are in a different demographic than me. I'm always open to meet WLS people closer to my age even if it's a different surgery. The walk is roughly the same. Thanks
  8. Yes! I absolutely remember you! I hope everything's going well. My physical recovery has been pretty good but mentally I've been pretty miserable. I'm hoping to shake it off soon. My mom is super worried about me, my boyfriend is probably tired of me LOL I'm just ready to feel "back to normal" and I'm hoping it doesn't take too much longer. Thanks Alex. I'm definitely wallowing. I guess it just bugs me most because I'm soooo not the wallowing type. I'm such a happy and bubbly person and over the last few weeks I feel like I've lost that and I'm eager to get it back. I don't like feeling like I traded my happiness for weight loss. I know that's a temporary feeling, in the long run I'll have both my health in check and hopefully my emotions back. Thanks everyone for your kind words and input. I just have to keep trucking along and find my happy place and find it without relying on food. My doctor's program is really strict for the first three months or so. Her patients tend to be very successful and I know that's why. I wanna be a success story too.
  9. I know these feelings are temporary, and I know that this is all part of my recovery and I just have to work through it. But I haven't had solid food since March 23rd and it's making me depressed. Anytime somebody eats in front of me I'm having to choke back tears. When my boyfriend eats, I am irrationally upset. Mostly because he promised to walk this journey with me, and the night before my surgery he ate Easter Dinner. I don't even want junk food. I just want some kind of regular solid food. I am counting down the hours to my post-op visit and get the OK from my surgeon to move to soft foods. I just want to feel normal. I don't regret my choice to have my surgery. Because of my choice and in following my pre-op diet and going through with my surgery, I have lost 40 lbs in 3 months. I know in the long run this is going to be the greatest thing I ever choose to do for myself, but right now THIS IS SUCKSVILLE.
  10. 2-5 were told to me. #1 I have learned on my own at home. Fortunately I have my own bathroom and lots and lots of candles.
  11. You just had major surgery on your stomach. Where all food, medicines, and liquids pass through. Keep telling yourself this. Your insides are inflamed. I'm having the same issues. Yesterday and today I had no appetite, couldn't muster up the will to take down my liquids. I just had to keep telling myself that I signed on for this change and this yucky recovery period is necessary for me to reap the benefits of it. If your dr gave you anti-nausea or pain meds, take them. If they didn't and your nausea doesn't improve, call them.
  12. Well you'll be laying down mostly lol I have an incision right at my bra line. So until today I wasn't able to wear a bra. If I had to go out I wore a sports bra and tucked it so it wouldn't rub against the incision.
  13. I'm 5 days post op. I'm not in much pain but I am exhausted and having a hard time getting my liquids in. Apparently it gets easier. Your new stomach is inflamed from the surgery and just needs to heal. Today was especially difficult for me. I went to Costco with my mom (mistake) and pushed the cart around. It was crowded and there were samples everywhere, which made me so angry that I couldn't have any lol. It was crowded which irritated me further. By the time we got to the car, I was ready to check out. I went home and took a nap. Felt like slipping into a black hole.
  14. During surgery you take everything off and wear a gown and maybe socks. No bra, no underwear. I haven't worn a bra since I took mine off to have surgery on Monday. There's an incision right at my bra line that I don't want to irritate.
  15. I'm in a wedding in two weeks. I ordered my bridesmaid dress about a month ago and couldn't close it when it arrived. I tried it on tonight (4 days post op) and it fits but I actually have a little room in it.
  16. Most of the Disney parks allow you to bring food and drink also. I'm going to Disneyland about 5 weeks post op as well. We're staying at a residence inn (comforts of home hotel) and I'll be able to bring my own foods just in case I can't manage to find something in the park that's ok to eat. You can research online what all the different eateries in the parks offer. Good luck and have fun! Went to Disney World about 3 years ago and it was incredible.
  17. Stay busy. Clear food from your home if possible. I live with my boyfriend and he committed to the liquid only stage with me. We sent all our perishable food to my moms house and kept only approved food for our diet in the house everything else went into the freezer. If there's nothing available that you're not supposed to eat, then you can't it eat it. On my lunch breaks at work I ran errands. At easter while everyone was eating i hid the eggs for the kids to hunt after dinner.
  18. Same. I'm annoyed that I can't be more active but I have to remind myself I just had major surgery 4 days ago LOL. I have slight discomfort but nothing terrible. Mostly gas. Have only had to take my anti nausea meds once.
  19. I can't speak for everyone but from the date of my consultation to the date of my surgery was less than 90 days. I met my doctor on 1/16/15, did my labs and psych eval within a week of that. Did my nutritionist consultation a few weeks later. Had a follow up visit a month later. Another follow up visit a month after than. They submitted my insurance approval after my February visit and it was approved within a day. I had two pre op appointments, one at the hospital where my surgery would be held, and then one with my surgeon. I had surgery on 4/6/15 and came home on 4/8/15
  20. My doctor had me fill all my scrips before surgery so they would be ready for me to come home. I have antacid to prevent ulcers, anti nausea meds and pain meds to be taken as needed.
  21. My pre op liquid diet was water, protein, zero calorie drinks, herbal teas, broths, sugar free Popsicles and jello only. Boiled eggs aren't liquid. I wouldn't eat them. Ask your surgeon for clarification. Your friend probably isn't a doctor.
  22. I was prescribed what's basically Pepcid AC to take twice a day for a month to prevent ulcers.
  23. I struggled with telling people at first. Then as I started to, the reactions I got we're all positive and supportive and excited. If people who are questioning or judging your decision aren't licensed medical professionals, tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Their opinion is just that, an opinion. It's based on nothing but their own thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. Not on medical fact or scientific knowledge. Ask them how the surgery is performed and see what they tell you. Odds are, they have no clue. Don't be put off by the opinions of someone who's (pardon my French) talking out of their ass. Everybody knows somebody who knows somebody whose sisters ex boyfriend's mom had WLS and regrets it. Oh the horror. F those people and do you. Good luck <3
  24. Every surgeon is different. My surgeon is very strict about pre and post-op eating phases and strongly advises against advancing your own eating. When I was in the hospital, several of the nurses saw who my doctor was and would say things like "Ohhh no wonder we can't give you ice...sorry." Or "let me read your orders again, Dr. Ellner is very specific." Other people didn't have to do pre op diets. Other people didn't have to do a saline laxative before surgery. I had very strict instructions for my pre op period and have been given just as strict instructions for my first 6 months post op. I think the reason my doctor and the bariatric nurses at the hospital I had surgery at have these guidelines so that patients can have a better recovery. I'm amazed at how comfortable I am only 3 days post op.
  25. I had surgery Monday morning. I was discharged from the hospital yesterday. I've had no complications and very little pain. Mostly gas and general discomfort associated with major surgery. I feel like I'm kind of a unicorn, because my doctor seems surprised by how well I'm doing and according to most people I've talked to either here or in my local support group etc, most people had difficulties in the first few days after surgery into the first couple of weeks after. I haven't had any so far (knocks on wood). I wouldn't recommend being alone, but that's just me. My doctor and the bariatric nurse at my hospital have called me twice to find out who's helping me out at home. The pain medicine they give is considered a narcotic, so I can't drive or anything until I'm no longer taking it. I also can't lift more than 10 lbs or bend over to get things off the floor. So...I'm not left alone too much right now.
