Jovie62 got a reaction from VSG-Gal in Will this help with food addiction?
I appreciate your honesty. I too relied on food and wine for so many reasons other than nutrition. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I had to give up every addiction over night and it's hard. That being said it is so worth it! I think you are stronger than you think! I'm quite a bit older than you, 52, but emotions are still the same. Once you start feeling better you will create new healthy habits in your life. I'm down roughly 100lbs since last summer and about 65lbs from surgery last February. I still struggle at times with wanting to turn to food but no where near what it used to be. It's a huge commitment and you really do have to take care of yourself and be particular about what you're eating but again it's a choice and surgery is just another tool to help but one I'll never regret! One of the best decisions I've ever made!
    Good luck!

I'm right there too, in a stall. I was sleeved March 2015 as well. I've lost 75 lbs and have been sitting here for a month. I have added more walking. But I haven't changed my diet much. I know for me it's carbs and Protein. I need to up my Protein and kill the carbs at least until I can get past this plateau.
Reading these posts helps keep me focused and know that I am in control of my weight loss and it's not a race.
Hang in there and shake things up a bit (maybe litterally). Shock your body, you've probably gotten into a routine and your body has adapted (they do it so well).
God bless you and your journey.

Having researched weight loss surgery for years, reading forums, and going through six months of weekly classes as a pre op, I felt well prepared for every contingency.
Yet I'm still shocked, on a daily basis, at just how little I'm able to eat. And even more so at the fact that that little amount of food more than satisfies my hunger. It's wonderful!

This weekend, I blew right into Onederland!! Woohoo! I'm 53, and I had my sleeve surgery on 6/23/15. Since then, I've lost 56 pounds. I lost 20 during the 3 month pre-surgical period required by my insurance.
I feel a bit like a new person. And I don't really mean emotionally. I was a pretty confident fat person before surgery. But now, my knees and ankles and feet don't hurt. I'm enjoying wearing my clothes again, and I'm so excited about the future. I have five grandchildren, and I'm back to being that fun grandmother I always planned to be. Now, instead of just being fun in the kitchen and at the sewing machine, I'm active with them. I can be physically fun with them!

I hate to answer a question with a question but what are you doing now? What could you do more of? What should you do less of? For me, I have found exercise to be a really important factor in my success. I workout 3-5 days a week, I still take my Vitamins and I still supplement my Protein. Success = keep doing what works and quit doing what doesn't.

From one Italian girl to another you won't regret it! The first couple
of weeks were rough getting through the three week post op diet.
Now I feel normal again and I'm only 8 weeks out.
I had no pain at all. I did need my doctor to prescribe Prilosec and haven't had any issues since.
I'm 54 and would do it all over again.
This was the best gift I have ever given my self.
    Good luck to you.

    Zoe,
    Thanks for the response!
    I absolutely LOVE your book!!!
What fun your life sounds! You and your husband sound a lot like many of the people I work with in our business.
I'm at the very beginning of my journey. In less than 2 weeks I go to Kaiser in Fremont Calif for orientation.
That same day I meet with the surgeon and the dietician.
I'm hoping if I lose a few pounds (from Kaisers recorded highest) that they will schedule my surgery no later than the beginning of Dec. if not it'll have to wait til the 3rd or 4th week of Jan, because of our grand daughter coming ????
I'm hoping that this operation gives me the weight loss leading to energy and confidence to put my all into being a grandparent and my business which will lead to financial freedom.
I am home and don't have to go to a job. It's time to replace my hubbies income as well!
    God bless, Zoe.

Hi Heidi...so at age 54, (and for the rest of the people here who are in their 50's and have not yet had the surgery) I can tell you that you are still SO young to have this done! Seriously, it was exactly 4 years ago this month that I had my surgery at age 58. I turn 62 on Tuesday...and I am happier now than I have ever been in my entire life! And the surgery is mostly responsible for that...
Also my move to Europe (I live in Amsterdam, one of the greatest cities in Europe) also helped me change my life. Even though I grew up in San Francisco (a wonderful place) and lived 10 years in Hawaii (not so bad) I can say I don't miss the US at all. But then, I don't have children or grandchildren and relocating to another country does make a big difference when you have close family.
Heidi, please tell me if you have your surgery scheduled? And thank you for buying my book...I wrote it in hopes that I might inspire others and so far that seems to be the case!

So, let me say I am losing weight, working out and feeling more fit. No one told me however that I wouldn't enjoy food anymore! I haven't had any food I thought was just delicious since surgery. It's like my taste isn't right. I am 12 weeks out tomorrow. I've had food that taste good but not great. That's cooked, restaurant... It's a bit depressing since I can only eat small quantities. I want that to be delicious. It's becoming a chore to eat... So for something that I will admit I used to make me feel better to now be something I don't enjoy is kinda sad.
Well, I'm happy with my body transformation so I guess that's the price to pay.

I ended up going in to the emergency department about 9 pm. Got hooked up to IV Fluid and lots of sips of apple juice watered down. I was able to keep it down at hospital. Also had an xray and was told it looked ok. The other bariatric surgeon in the practice was on call and the ED staff conferred with him. I was able to hold down the liquid and I hope today is a better day. Still having some pain in the same area, hoping it's just trapped gas that I need to walk off.
