I, too, wondered if i had surgery. I am at 1mo, 20 days out and ive never felt nauseous, never felt full.....i hear people saying they can only eat a couple baby spoons full of food, but i have had an entire can of progresso soup.....i didnt think this was normal, but this thread proves im not the only one. My taste and smell was totally screwed, but i think its coming back. Im only down 28lbs from my surgery day. My surgeon said i was doing fine but he told me to cut my Premier Protein down to one drink a day instead of two. Thanks for this thread as it has settled my thoughts down a bit.

I was a band to sleeve revision so I suspect that my "sensations" are not quite the same... so take my remarks with a grain of salt... but my thought is that if you feel it in your esphogus you have had 1-2 too many bites. I strongly advocate eating by measuring spoon/cup early on, but as you start to eat more intuitively, strive for "no longer hungry" but prior to feeling that overly restricted feeling.
One of the ways to "cheat" the sleeve is to get used to that feeling of food backed up in your esophogus. As your sleeve matures over time your capacity will grow. If your capacity grows and you are also habitually eating to "overflow" I think that could create problems in maintenance.
Again - I am sensitive to this as a revisionista because that is one of the reasons band to sleeve revisions overall dont do as well. i became very familiar wiht "full esophogus" when i had the band and it is a very bad habit.

Were you able to eat an entire scrambled egg? The first time I tried to eat one it took me 45 minutes and I still didn't finish it. I never felt nauseous or threw up even once since my surgery, but I have definitely felt overfull MANY MANY MANY times. It's something I'm working very hard to avoid, as it is quite unpleasant.
Edit: As others have said, the full feeling I get now is nothing like the full feeling I had pre-op. It's more in my chest/esophagus and is very uncomfortable. Not so much painful as just very constricted feeling.

Counting on the "feeling full" effect can be a very imprecise method. I agree with CowgirlJane...... Measure/ or weigh everything....and stick to the measured amounts.

I know I didn't really get restriction until I full on started with soft foods. I even wondered at times if the doctor even did the surgery, lol. I remember the first time I had refried Beans with a little cheese, I could only eat 2 or 3 spoon fulls and boy oh boy did I feel it then! For me, it's not the nice, comfortable full feeling of before surgery. It's a "tightness" feeling almost into your esophagus that says I'm full. I also start burping and even regurgitating ( I have GERD) when I have eaten too much. Hope that helps explain it!

I am a month out of surgery and I had the same issue. I never really felt full, but I stopped when I ate the right portion. I did get sick once, however, I think it was because I ate too fast. I also found that as long as I get my Protein in I don't feel hungry. Maybe I am being overly cautious. I just don't like feeling sick. Good luck! I am ready to begin introducing some real food, just in the right portions.

I'm happy to know I'm not the only one wondering if the surgery actually happened?!?
You're exactly right! It's not that nice satisfying, full feeling I got before surgery. It's more of a pressure in my chest. Weird. I have yet to actually feel "full" in my stomach.

I was advised that nerves are "injured" and may take as long as 6 weeks to recover.... so in early weeks eat by the measuring spoon/cup and clock!

Just glued. My grand-daughter thought it was cute. She kissed and touched it. By the end of 1.5 weeks it just fell off, I have no idea where, it just disappeared. My scars are not bad either, very minimal

It will wear off on it's own. When mine peeled easily without pulling on the skin my Dr told me I could remove it. No big deal.

Yep in a few weeks mine came off. My surgery almost scraped them off. Talk with your doctor!

I was sleeved on Tuesday and I'm having trouble getting in all the water/fluids as well. I think I'm just afraid to drink too much as once? I decided to have my SIL go to the store for me and get those 5oz cups (Dixie Cups that people use in their bathrooms). If I can have one of those each hour in a 12 hour day (say 7-7) then I should be good. With the Protein shakes and SF drinks I should be good! Hopefully that will help!

I have type 2 and know what you're going through. 80 is normal (for people without diabetes) but your body is not use to such a low and that's why you're feeling bad. Check with your doctor about what would be most appropriate for you to bring it back up a little so you feel better. Hang in there! We're still trying to figure out the best combo for me. It'll take a little time

Got my sleeve yesterday morning and home resting today. The doc was pleased with my liver shrinkage and said it took him just under an hour. Other than some pain and soreness on my 6 incision sites, I feel pretty good! I was fortunate not to have any nausea. So happy to now be post-op!!

I had my suregery on 10/27 and on Chrismas eve we went to church. Without even thinking about it, I went up to take communion and took the bread (the first piece I dropped....oops!!) popped it in my mouth took a sip of grape juice and went and sat down. Then all of a sudden I looked at my daughter and whispered...."that was my first bread I hope it stays down!" Needless to say it did. YEAH! But I didn't even think about taking it till after I did.

laurashelby reacted to BLERDgirl in Question about gas
Most if not all surgeons try to expel most of the gas from your body before closing you up. It just doesn't always work. I had no problems with gas either.
I also think OP is confusing the gas from the surgery with the acid out new tummy's produce. The gas is from the surgery That is best treated by being active and walking, The acid is produced by our natural stomach juices. This can intensify as it breaks down food. When our stomachs were the original size it wasn't as much of an issue. Now we have the same amount of acid being produced in a much smaller space. Hence the acid can get uncomfortable. That is what is treated by PPI's like omeprazole and Gas-X strips.

laurashelby reacted to Bufflehead in Question about gas
The post-op gas pains are from the CO2 they pump into your body cavity to make laparoscopic surgery possible. Gas-X strips work on a different kind of gas in your digestive system, not on CO2 surgical gas, at least per my surgeon. He said that walking and rocking (when seated) are the only things that will help gas to escape. A heating pad placed where the gas is hurting you (usually in the shoulder area) can help reduce the pain. Usually the gas pains are gone within a couple of days. Mine were gone in under 24 hours. Good luck!

@laurashelby popcorn is not off limits for everyone. It's my absolute favorite food and I've been able to handle it without any issues. I just eat soooo much less than I used to. I found SkinnyPop which is really healthy and I just have a little at a time. 39 calories per cup.

I'm glad this post is so active.....it's been helping me a lot! My date is January 20 and I am on my 4th day of the liquid Protein diet and have lost 5.8 pounds! Being from Louisiana, it's hard to get away from food! It's now King Cake season and man do I just want a bite!! What's nice is to know that next Mardi Gras I can have a bite or two and I think that will be good enough. I also travel a lot and am going to London and Paris this June, so am obviously worried about where I'll be in my recovery. Will I be able to have a bite of a pain au chocolate? I sure hope so!! Just this morning I was reminded how much I love donuts. Friday is donut day at work and I can't have one for quite a while, but it's nice to know that down the line I can have a bite or two. I think my biggest problem right now is when I smell something....like popcorn. I LOVE popcorn! But that's apparently a big no-no!
But the main thing is to keep our eyes on the prize.....I want some knee high boots (NOT wide calf) and skinny jeans and I plan to have them next fall! Hang in there gang....we can do this!!!
