I think I would compare the nutrition labels and see which is better for you. Personally, I'm looking at sugar right now. Some of those yogurts are crazy high.

no onions reacted to Smye in Real Food, Real Weightloss, Still Delicious
Hello BariBrothers, BariSisters, BariFamilies, and general lovers of healthy, good food. My name is Smye and I live on a small farm in the Pacific Northwest.
During both pre and post op appointments with my nutritionist, I was horrified by the suggested things I could eat once I was back to 'regular foods.' The suggestions I was given were flavorless, full of preservatives & junk, and/or otherwise reminiscent of the american 'instafoods' that are, in my opinion, a huge part of the original problems. That said, I wanted to share some of the real, whole foods I've been enjoying lately without hurting my sleeve or deviating from the dietary guidelines provided to me by my NUT. I'm down 86 lb since I started this journey on Jan 22, 2015, and loving every meal as much as, or more than, pre-op.

I've spent the last 7 years accommodating good food to meet my partner's corn, dairy, and gluten allergies without losing any of the flavor or texture with 80% of all ingredients sourced from my own small farm, so it wasn't too big of a jump to make these recipes low carb, high Protein and delicious.

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting recipes like:

    Bariatric BibimBop
    Pho
    Pastrami Sandwich
    Madras curry with fried tofu
    chicken tenders with sauce
Sushi - Philadelphia rolls in particular
    Personal Pizzas
    Smoked cherry-glazed chicken
    Barbeque-smoked chicken
    Ham and cheese omlette
    Pickled duck eggs
    Quiche
    Ham, egg & cheese sandwiches
    Bari-bread
    Guacamole Cheeseburgers
    And many more

There's no need for food to be tasteless, uninteresting, or questionable in it's contents. If there's something you'd like to see that's not here, please PM me and I'll do my best - I also make sure to try everything myself and feed it to my executive chef neighbor before I post it to ensure it's excellent!

I do think there are many people who have problems down the road. When asking my surgical team about this they were very up front with me about the statistics which you can find on line for your particular surgery.
Those that gain back most or all of their weight revert to old bad habits like drinking soda, alcohol and not eating properly. Remember this really is a tool.
In terms of people dealing with nutrient issues, many stop taking their Vitamins and do not go in for their regular labs. Ulcers happen for many reasons, some of which come from taking medications you are not supposed to.
I too have read many of those threads and usually that person will say, I didn't take my Calcium or I started taking ibuprofen for my arthritis.
This type of surgery is a life choice. Once you make it, you are in it for the long haul. Some people think it is a quick fix to lose the weight and revert to old habits.
You have to decide who you are going to be 10 years down the road. I know that I am never going back to that unhealthy place with multiple comorbitities an almost unable to walk.
I for one will follow the plan that includes taking my Vitamins, getting all my Protein, and going to regular doctors appointments.
I hope this helps but more importantly you must follow up with your surgical team and better understand the statistics for your type of surgery. Know exactly what you are getting into because you are making a life choice.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

I'm having better luck w/ Water intake if I use a bottle that has an opening about the size of an aquafina Water bottle. I had been using my nice contigo bottle, but something about the wide mouth and how much I'm drinking doesn't work well. The smaller mouth on the aquafina bottle helps enforce smaller sips for me. I know this sounds kind-of dumb, but maybe it will help you too.

Colonoscopy prep is so disgusting that anyone would gag. I still can remember the thick lemon-lime (supposedly) flavored drink that I had to consume. I swear it was a gallon jug. I've never experienced a Protein drink quite that bad yet.

no onions reacted to futurefocus in I finally decided
Just before my 10th birthday my stepfather began coming into my room at night while my mother was at work. This continued until I was 12 years old. I tried several times to tell my mother over those years what was happening to me but she didn't want to hear it and I didn't know what words to use. My grandmother stayed with me once and figured it out and also tried to stop it but again, her words fell on deaf ears. Her attempts caused a huge rift between her and my mother that was never repaired. I finally stopped it myself. Many ramifications. The most lasting one besides my view of the world was my view of myself. Somehow, I blamed the way I looked. If I didn't look like that he wouldn't want me. While my conscious mind knew that it had nothing to do with me, the result was a slow, steady weight gain that continued until June 11th 2015.
After struggling with diets and exercise, back pain, knee pain and hip pain, I decided that something had to change. A friend had the surgery and loved the results. It took a year for me to decide and then I did. Once the decision was made, I was excited. I started making a list of all the things I looked forward to -- not being in pain anymore, my blood pressure going down, my blood sugar leveling out, shopping at any store, shopping in my closet, being able to wear normal shoes, my feet not swelling anymore...so many things. I add to list everyday. I can see my cheekbones again, my face is thinner, so are my fingers, my thighs don't rub together when I walk, I can walk up 4 flights of stairs, I can walk again.
Don't get me wrong, I have achieved much success in my life both personally and in my career. I just couldn't do this without help. The feeling is amazing to step on the scale and see it change each week. It's great to not be hungry anymore. I feel braver, stronger, more in charge of my body. Life is very good and I am grateful for the gift of this surgery. I love this new life.

I haven't had the problem where I've been grouchy and people offered me the advice of "go back to eating." Anyone who has that to say can jump in a lake (of acid).
That said I've given people in my household permission to call me out if I get crazy-grouchy-nasty. The goal being to make me stop and think before I continue. It hasn't been necessary yet.

Hi all - had my xray testing today and all is well (no leaks) and I've been advanced to delicious purées of my own choosing.
All of that said, did anyone else get diarrhea and gas as result of your swallow test? My digestive tract has been vocal (grumbly) and active (take another seat) most of the day.
    Thanks in advance.

This is why I cannot weigh daily. In the past I would weigh multiple times per day and the head games it creates are just not worth it. Pick an interval (for weighing) that works for you. Keep in mind that the overall trajectory (loss) is on a downward slope - you will continue to make great progress that may not show up daily or weekly.

This is tough and I'm sorry you are going through it.
Having had my own (earlier in life) gallbladder problems, I wouldn't recommend waiting to have something done about it - the pain can go from nothing to 200 for seemingly no reason.
Though I had my own removed in college (like 20 years ago), my understanding is that many people who have WLS surgery develop gallbladder issues. If you're having WLS surgery and know about it now, why opt for two recoveries by having something done later? I would have it all taken care of at once.
That's my opinion with the following caveats - a. I don't know your financial situation and b. you should talk to the surgeon (if you haven't already) as he or she might have some helpful advice.

no onions reacted to Butterflyhigh in Old habits die hard - emotional eating
Uh oh. You're at the make it or break it point. If you want to have lifelong success with this wls you will need to replace those old habits with new ones.
I'll never forget, about 8 weeks post-op, I had a fight with my ex about the kids. I was so frusterated, angry, hurt, etc. Having lost the ability to stuff food in my body and dampen the unwanted emotions...I literally just paced the floors and screamed at the top of my lungs, pulled my hair, pounded my fists. It was impotent rage and I had no way of coping with it without food.
I started walking around my property. I would hop in my old pick-up truck and drive around town. I started writing in my journal. I played piano and guitar. Those coping skills started to work!! And it is so much emotionally healthy to actually DEAL with those emotions instead of eating them down. Eventually I discoverd Yoga. Yoga for me is like preventive medicine...it keeps my emotional self balanced before I hit that crazy level of frusteration.
Bordeom eating is still an issue for me. But I totally can recognize now as head hunger vs real hunger. And now when I'm bored, instead of eating I rely on one of my other healthy coping skills.
This is the when the lifelong changes happen. It's not the inablity to eat large amounts of food that will change your life...it is hitting the RESET button on your relationship with food that will change the rest of your life.
Food=Fuel. And when you treat it stictly as such, the freedom you've got is unbelievable.
    Good Luck!!

It really does vary a lot. My plan was:
four weeks full liquids -- Protein Shakes, milk, strained or cream Soups, G2, Powerade Zero, SF popsicles, SF Jello
four weeks purees -- poached or scrambled eggs, various forms of dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese, melted cheese), pureed meats or Beans, nut butters, soft tofu, refried beans -- ONLY high Protein foods, no fruits, vegetables, or grains
four months of soft foods -- food soft enough to cut easily with a fork. No grains, starchy veggies, or sweets permitted.
As you can see from the variety of responses here, you'll need to get detailed information, including lists of permitted and forbidden foods, from your dietician directly. It's really pretty irrelevant what other surgical practices do -- you should only care about your own.

I think what you've said about is really one of the best ways to have a conversation, if you choose to have it.
I would simply reiterate all of it directly. If your friends are friends at all, they will respond accordingly to the energy you put out there on the topic.
    Best of luck to you.
