I had never had any type of surgery either. And I said those same words to Dr. Ortiz on December 19th about being scared and nervous. He totally put me at ease with his bedside manner. You are in very capable hands. Dr. Ortiz and his staff will take very good care of you.

Blissful i am so happy to hear about you're experience. You are on you're way and have joined us past sleevers. I could relate to you're story in so many ways. Ie: the pain upon waking and thinking i am never doing this again. I am right there with you on the pledge to take care of the stomach. Now we all get to take care of our stomachs together through support. Hang in there. For me the first few weeks were the worst, but it sounds like you are making great progress. I look forward to hearing about you're journey as it continues to move along. Welcome to the sleeved side.
Onward that's excellent about the running. I am happy to report that I too today ran a bit. Couldn't believe how easy it was. Usually I would be huffing and puffing and feeling like I was going to have a heart attack. This surgery is truly the best decision I made!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm back! Congrats to all of you that are making such great progress! And best wishes to those of you that are heading in for surgery soon.
I had my surgery on 2/10 (Tuesday). I went into the surgery feeling great and ready for the journey. The minute I woke up from surgery I was in hideous pain. They gave me pain meds, but they made me incredibly nauseous. So, it was 24 hours of hell. Just keeping it real with all of you. I never regretted my decision once. I just had to deal with the suffering, which was no joke. I had over 40 text messages the day of my surgery, but couldn't even read or respond to them. I read on the discussions boards of people updating us right after surgery.. What? I was a mess. Also, the hospital I was in was not a good experience. I don't even want to go into that part because it's feedback that needs to go to the doctors and hospital.
Ok, now for the much better part. After two nights and three days, I'd made enough progress to go home. The physician's assistant told me that in the morning of the final day, so I practically broke out of the hospital! I packed my bags and got myself dressed before they even said it was time to go home. Got to leave around 4pm when my wonderful parents came to pick me up. God, it was great to get out of there. Let me tell you the thought that persistently ran through my mind in bold neon letters: I can never go through this again. This is my sign to take the ultimate care of my new stomach and the second chance at life that this surgery has afforded me.
Stayed at my parents that night and pretty much slept like a baby. Four straight hours, awake for about thirty minutes with gas pain, then asleep for another three and a half hours. It was GLORIOUS. I woke up feeling like a new woman. Walking and moving great. It was amazing. So, days 1-3.. UGH! Day 4 - amazeballs. I expected the same kind of exponential shift on day 5, but I feel pretty much the same as yesterday - maybe a little more tired. I focused solely on hydration yesterday, so today's new goal is Protein. I'm sippin on a Protein Shake as we speak. I'm tracking everything I eat and do.
Oh! For the people heading into surgery, here are my favorite hot tips: Biotene mouth spray - what a lifesaver! And Burt's Bees lip balm - my lips were gnarly chapped and gross those three days. I brought a lavender air freshener, but couldn't remotely be bothered with it. Also brought the plug and extension cord for my iPhone, but I never really used my phone, so I didn't need it. I'm grateful for the people that shared these ideas in previous discussion boards because some of the ideas really helped!
So, I'm on my way now! I hope I can hold in my mind the pain and suffering of that surgery so that I remember to take the best care of my new tummy as possible! Looking forward to an exciting new future and lots of living life to its fullest!
Thank you for all of the nice comments and support - you guys are truly amazing!

I'm going to update a little. I'm 7 weeks post-surgery and in only a little over 2 lbs, I will have a 1 in my hundreds' column on the scale! 199, what a day that is going to be; it's been SO long! Everyone is noticing the weight loss now, and the positive comments keep me encouraged and motivated.
Yesterday, I ran with my puppy...you know, like just a burst of joy and energy and breaking into a run like when you were a kid? That kind of run! 3 months ago, I walked down the steps one at a time while holding the wall. Oh, how good life feels. When Blissful began this thread, she named it well. Every day now is a new day, and for those of you just getting your surgeries, just think...I'm not very far in front of you, only a few weeks. Life is about to change in major ways for you...in the beginning, I literally had new achievements each and every day. Now, I have them every few days. It beats the heck out of just watching my health and abilities diminish slowly and surely.
We get to be new again, and gratitude is a wonderful, wonderful thing!

Avhick, you are doing so great! We are so close to the same surgery time. I'll be at 6 weeks on Friday. It's so wonderful to compare and see where we are.
I haven't had the frothies...they just sound delightful. Ugh. I do have horrible acid, though. And while eggs have been fine for me (poached), quinoa is like eating shards of glass. Back on the shelf it goes for now.
How awesome are compliments, though? People noticing the changing me...so encouraging. Yesterday, a woman who hadn't seen me since November came over to me and said, "wow, what a transformation!" I nearly cried. Friends tell me I look happier. I know I feel so much better!
Keep sharing your journeys, everyone. Your experiences inspire me.

Glad they are squeezing you in. Waiting rooms can be a pain in the rear. It's one of the reasons why I actually prefer those super early OR times. Thing are less likely to get bumped or delayed.
Hang in there for one more day, you're almost there!

They are going to squeeze me tomorrow....so thankful I only had to wait not her 48 hours! I was religious on the pre-op diet and honestly didn't know how much longer I could take it! Theses of you who have had it done, you know what it feels like in the waiting room...then to have the, tell you to go home and continue prep. I was devastated! Trying to keep everything in perspective and keep a positive state of mind! Thanks for all your support! I love reading everyone's trials, tribulations, and success stories!

Hi, I am new to Bariatric Pal, I am currently in the pre-op stage. My insurance requires that I undergo six months of medically supervised weight loss appointments with my primary care before the surgery can be scheduled. I have attended three, three more to go. My final test is this Friday, an endoscopy, and it looks like my surgery will be around the end of April, beginning of May.
I have been overweight for about 17 years, it ballooned after my last child was born. I have high blood pressure, am pre-diabetic, and have had two back surgeries. I want to live a long, comfortable life and be there for my grandchildren when that time comes along. I am tired of being tired, sore, and not in great health. I want to do things like ride roller coasters, cross my legs, sit in a bathtub comfortably, tie my shoes better, I want to be able to sit on the ground and be able to get back up...and many other things like that. I'm 5'8", HW=327, CW=298.7, GW=160. I basically just want to live free of the chains I have wrapped myself in.
I have found that reading these posts helps a lot, I get information, inspiration, and feel like I'm part of a larger effort. I am going through this process along with three other women at work, and it helps a lot to know that you are not alone, that someone else has the same issues, feelings, and goals.
