I am also 5'10" and just had 4-month appt. this week. My surgeon said he sees no reason I can't get to 160 based on being 187 now. He said a lot of it has to do with where you start and I was 34 BMI on day of surgery after pre-op diet. He said most patients can't get in normal BMI range. Personally, I would be happy with 170, but will try for 160.

I definitely have the clothes thing going on, too. Most of my clothes that now fit are 10 years old that I saved and I really need to get new ones! I have started buying a few things and am amazed that the 14s are starting to get big. I tried on a 12 dress and it fit, but I didn't buy it yet. I really need to get jeans because my ones from 10 years ago are out of style and I am 5'10" and couldn't find them long enough back then (lots better selection now)!
I always use the big stall in the RR, but will continue as I hate the little spaces and feel more exposed to germs!

I agree that not following a healthy diet is what got me here. I will make healthy choices in order to finally lose the weight and feel wonderful for the rest of my life and hopefully avoid horrible health issues. Massive amounts of unhealthy food was the way lived before. Never again.
But....for me...it is so hard and so unrealistic to live my life without ever having the foods I enjoy ever again. I have deprived my self of food since I was 9 years old and it did nothing but make me fat and frustrated. For me, if I am told "never again" when it comes to anything in life, it makes me want it all that much more.
I will eat a cheeseburger (without the bun because it gets stuck a little not because they said no) I will have a small piece of cake at a birthday party and I will drink a cup of coffee with Creamer every morning.
What I will guarantee I will do for the rest of my life is eat healthy and make wise choices 99% of the time. I will enjoy the unhealthy choices every now and again. That's a promise.
    Life is short.

The "rules" as they were explained to me... Protein first No drinking 30 minutes before or after meals 72 or more grams Protein per day Take your Vitamins on schedule Avoid grazing 64 ounces or more of fluids per day Measure or weigh food No straws No gum No carbonation No alchohol until you're in maintenance Journaling can be a good tool. Try it. Protein first - Yep, usually, but I like variety so I still supplement 1-2x per day No drinking 30 minutes before or after meals- Yep. It makes me uncomfortable so I don't do it. 72 or more grams protein per day - Usually more Take your Vitamins on schedule - Always. Have a timer on my phone to remind me of my mid day dose Avoid grazing - I should do better 64 ounces or more of fluids per day - I should do better Measure or weigh food - I often still do this when at home. Started out as a self-defence technique, (overdoing HURTS), now it's more of an anti-waste technique No straws - Wasn't a big straw person before. Don't use them much now but they don't bother me No gum - occasionally No carbonation - No soda. Ever. Makes me uncomfortable. Occasionally I will do a Guinness which is very lightly carbonated. No alchohol until you're in maintenance - I think I waited till month 4 to try it at all. I drank occasionally during my loss, counting the calories. Today I drink socially, usually not more than 1 or 2 if I'm out with friends. More makes my tummy hurt\too full\icky\etc. Journaling - While I was losing and for the first 6 months of maintenance I food\exercise journaled religiously so I could understand what was going in\wht I was burning and know I was meeting my protein goals. Eventaully after several months of maintenance I made a concious decision to stop as is felt more like a crutch than a tool. (I have calories left so I can have whatever I want OR Look at me! I exercised again today). I wanted to live these things naturally if I could do that and still maintain succesfully. It's working so far, but I WILL go back to the journal if I slip outside my 10 pound goal range. Hasn't happened so far.

OMG, I have to stop "looking in the women's sizes clothing section" because hello nothing in there fits me. But for some bizarre reason I have to start there and then go one size smaller, then another and another. I will not adjust to I am a regular size 14 or 16 now, even a regular size 18 is too big. I look at the jeans I purchased and go, no way this is going to fit, I must have tried it on when I was really dehydrated or something. But no, it fits with lots of room. It's so silly but I have been doing this for weeks. Body dysmorphia, I think it's the term. I have it so bad. But every once in a while I look in the mirror and go, wow, I look amazing. There is hope!

I wanted to share some cool little things that are making it possible to hit some goals this year. My body has changed massively over the last few months and it has allowed me to expand my ideas of what is possible. Two of my major goals are: a 5K run by April 12 and mountain climbing trip in Colorado by July.
To get the 5K done I am using the Couch to 5K program. (dips.
If you have figured out a tip/trick/hack that helped you meet a goal, please feel free to share and encourage.

Oh coffee creamer! I use Atkins vanilla Protein Shake for it and love it! Just a suggestion for that one. It's higher in fat/carbs than my regular Protein shake so I save it for a treat in my coffee!

Susanjoyce392 reacted to Momof2inIowa in Has weight loss/surgery turned me crazy?
I don't think I was really ever cranky...however, one thing that would set me off is people saying "oh that's got to be much easier than working out to lose the weight" I am a pretty laid back type person in most cases but when someone discounts the journey I went on I had to speak my mind...
This is not "easy" I have done the Optifast diet, I have had personal trainers, I have been successfull there, however, one thing those didn't do was curb the feeling of ALWAYS BEING HUNGRY. This surgery did that for me, sure I get hungry but I know my limits, can it be overcome? sure...I could drink chocolate if I wanted to ruin it, but I don't, I make the right decisions, I eat what I need to keep myself healthy and make sure that I get in all the Vitamins and nutrients that I need every day. Easy? no I don't think so!
One thing that still cracks me up, I asked my kids (4 yr old boy and 5 yr old girl) if they like smaller mommy...My 4 yr old son said I don't like little mommy, she is fast and I can't catch her. keeping my toddlers on their toes!!

My surgeon asked if I had a goal. At the time I was aiming for 175 as that put me at a 25 BMI. He said I would easily blow by that so I decided on 160.
