    I was Sleeved 1/28/15!

It took forever before I could sleep in my left side! I was able to sleep in my right with a long body pillow and on my left with a small square pillow. I still sleep with both now and also a husband pillow that props me up a little. It helped in the beginning to take some of the pain meds right before bed to take care of the discomfort.
  2. @@artblitz I lost almost 50lbs pre-op because I was afraid of surgery at first, but realized how hard it was to keep going without getting discouraged. I gained 13lbs back and was 270 my day of surgery. I lost 20lbs post op just following my NUT.
  3. Hobbies. I got started way before even considering surgery. It helped keep me busy and avoid mindless eating. This past summer I learned to knit, sew, make jewerly, etc. (All from YouTube) It has helped a lot!
  4. This was my worry too, lol! I had surgery on a Friday and was discharged Sunday, MLK Day was Monday and I was back to school Tuesday. My mother drove me to and from school and I had to take it slow when walking building to building on campus. I made sure to wear comfy clothes and felt pretty good. If they give you meds for nausea keep it on you just in case it comes back.

    Help with steak?

@@Eclectick what does the instant coffee do? I have never heard of that for steak marinade before??!?! Can you taste the coffee when you cook it?
  8. I had never had surgery before the sleeve and I was nauseous all throughout my hospital stay and then once after discharge. Give it a couple of weeks before you start to feel "normal" again. It will get better! Hang in there!

    Time off work?

Congrats! I took off two weeks but had an additional third before I was put back on the schedule. It just depends on how you feel.

    Vitamins

Before surgery it was all I could talk/think about too! I'm surprised they didn't tell me to shut daily! lol.

    Vitamins

Before surgery I had to have massive amounts of blood work done and that was how they figured out the Vitamins to take before and after surgery. I was severely low in Iron and Vitamin D. So I have to take 3 pills daily (iron), along with a 2 multivitamins(morning and night) with iron, sublingual B12(Once in morning), Vitamin D and a Vitamin D prescription(morning and night), colace(post op for a month), and citracal(starting one month post op) I was also given a prescription for my gallbladder (If my surgeon doesn't see any stones then he won't remove it) but I have to wait until my 1 month follow up from my surgeon to start taking it. My surgeon's office requires follow ups at 1, 3, and 6 months and then yearly thereon in order to keep up with vitamin supplementation to avoid deficiency.

    Don't Delay your Surgery

In June 2014 I was too afraid of surgery that I went and lost almost 50 pounds (255 was my lowest weight) with diet and exercise alone. (I was 21) Then when I turned 22 I started drinking again and getting into old habits and had gained about 15 pounds back (270) it was then I realized that things just weren't going to work and I needed a more drastic restrictive change. (I saw my future in my family medical history. Diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney failure, abbesses/sores, amputated limbs) I did not want that to be me. Luckily I got insured through my mom's job and within a month I was able to get my surgery without a 6 month diet. (Which I had with the other program anyway). I was lucky in the fact that while my mother was laid off in Jan 2015 our insurance was still good so I got the go ahead for surgery. I was super nervous they would cancel too! Now, at 22. I weigh 248.8 as of this morning. I honestly don't even remember the last time I have ever seen that on a scale. 285, 297, and 307 had become normal for me. I am really glad I went ahead with this surgery and really wish in June 2014 I wasn't such a chicken. I would have been so much further along!

    Iron supplements

My doctor okayed ferrous sulfate high potency iron from Big Lots.
  14. So yesterday I had to leave work early because I almost blacked out. I felt weak, faint, a little dizzy, and just plain bad. I was so afraid of going back to the hospital that I left work early and just went home to lay down. This happened after lunch and I thought it was the Soup I ate (maybe it had too much fat or oil or something) anyway I go to work today and after I came back from break I started to have the same symptoms again! I was freaking out thinking this was way serious and ended up calling on of the surgeons on call. The guy I spoke with wasn't my surgeon but I gave him a run down of everything and he said since I didn't have a fever, abdominal pain, or diarrhea it was nothing to come to the ER for. He then suggested that because this has been happening after I ate at work and then resumed standing up(for the rest of my shift) he said either my blood sugar is very low or you may be dehydrated(But he ruled out dehydration because I had gotten in all my fluids). He suggested I drink a couple of ounces of apple juice which I promptly did and I felt a little better but the symptoms returned! I drank a little more and low and behold, my symptoms were gone and I felt good as new! I really hated this happening at work though, because my boss(the assistant manager, anyway) wanted to know my business(Only my manager knew I was out for surgery). She then commented on my weight loss and asked me if I had gastric bypass! Luckily someone else was there in the room and immediately shut them down. (It's none of their business, the point was I don't feel well and I wanted to call my doctor). I was thankful for the other woman thinking it would be completely ridiculous(Word at my job spreads like wildfire, they thrive on rumors). I then gave some BS VAGUE story about my esophagus and how I can only eat certain things so as not to irritate it. After about an hour and a half I was able to resume my work shift! I have never in my life had issues with my blood sugar. I wasn't even "pre-diabetic" pre-op. So just be careful fellow sleevers!

    Finally I... (TMI)

I took some ducolax and that didn't really help me get regularity however I took some really disgusting Milk of Magnesia and I have been regular ever since.

    Stitch spitting thru incision

I had this but it was raised just a little from my incisions so I thought it was dirt or something and tried to pull at it...(yeah, I know idiotic) I had that big "aha" moment after pulling didn't work and realized I had internal stitches...my surgeon didn't say anything about. Lesson learned, left it alone and my incision healed over it.

    Looking for support

It'll be okay! I was really depressed and also went through some family issues, even going so far as contemplating/planning suicide. Its hard, it really is. But it always gets better. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but eventually. Hell, my life is pretty much crap right now though I will admit getting vsg helped improve my overall mood, but I'm still working through it. I try to see the details in everything that people gloss over. I'm crazy observant and I've found that the little things in life are the things I find most beautiful and give me joy. (Sometimes I think I'm a weirdo!) I love looking at the barcodes on grocery items because sometimes you get that one of a kind company that gets all creative and designs it in a cool way(Would it be weird to admit to collecting them?). I learned how to knit/sew which turned out to be the most relaxing hobby in the world even for the most stressed filled days! You're obviously moving in the right direction though, by making an appointment with your dietitian and psych. You're taking control. (I had a really bad experience with a previous psych that really drove my mind further into the abyss until I met a psych for my psych eval for bariatric approval) Just remember, its tough. It's hard, and just like losing weight it's something we will always have to maintain and work at. Sorry this was long!

    Stalled! Grrrrrr....

I was 257 for days and my weight also increased by a couple of pounds post op! I grew increasingly frustrated! (Still am but I know I just have to keep going and be patient, I didn't gain in one day so I sure as heck won't lose it in one, lol) I just want to chew something! It's so frustrating! I have my follow up next week and I am really excited to be off puree foods yet afraid my surgeon might tell me I need to transition to soft foods, etc. (After discharge my surgeon moves you straight to puree foods)

    It's spooky close!

    Stalled! Grrrrrr....

I started exercising at least 30 minutes a day(After 2 weeks, I'm about 3 weeks out now) and it finally moved the scale from 257 to 251. I was stuck at 257 for almost a week following surgery but I started working out at the gym, taking the stairs at school, and walking around campus. *Knocks on wood* I really hope things keep moving but I know stalls are inevitable. I do try to add in all my Protein and fluids even if it means eating 5-6 small meals a day. I've found cans and pouches of tuna/chicken with seasoning to be a quick lifesaver/timesaver.

    Sushi?

I was wondering about this!!! I can't wait to try it because I know I'll only need a couple of pieces of sashimi to be satisfied instead of a buffet.
  24. My surgeon also said this when I asked what I could take for my once a month slap from Mother Nature. Sorry tmi.
