  1. TAJ718 You will be fine. Just take it slow and let your body heal. Also remember why you are having this done. Follow what your Surgeon and Nutritionist tells you too. The information they give you should help you with whatever you need to do. These sites are wonderful but each and every one of us has different ideas about what works. Each of your team ( DR Nurse and Nutritionist) have their own way of doing things. Good Luck
  2. Beware of buying to much protein drink ahead, I speak with the truth your taste might change after your WLS. I would really hate to know how much I have spent in my 3 years for protein stuff to just give it away. I'm lucky because my Grandkids think if NANA eats it it is GREAT!! LOL I also have a nephew that does Protein to be heealthy so he got quite a bit too.
  3. laneydasilva sometime if you eat to much or drink to much it will feel like it is stuck in your throat and chest. Just try to eat slower and measure what you are taking in just to make sure that isn't causing it. It WILL get BETTER I promise!! Hang in there.
  4. Hi everyone, I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. Here are my STATS: HW (this time I was 285) 249 SW 232 LW 117 CW 125#'s. I lost 132#'s in 6 months but I did gain 8#'s back. I can't tell you much those 8#'s made me feel so much better. So I have maintained my 124# loss for 2 and 1/2 years. I feel like I owe this to my exercise. I walk 4 to 5 times a week 4 to 5 miles each time. I have been pretty consistent in my exercise. I had to stay in a Hotel the first week after my surgery because I lived 2 hours from where I had my surgery. So even tho I started walking right away I couldn't do too much but like I said I have walked and increased my exercise all along. When I had my RNY my Surgeon and Nutritionist both told me this, Now I'm not saying this is the way everyone should do but this has worked for me. I was told in time there are NO FORBIDDEN FOODS. You have to learn to eat everything in MODERATION. I can tell you this much it has been an AMAZING JOURNEY!!! And I hear people say they wish they had done it sooner but myself, I really don't believe I would had been ready before. I know of 3 family members who had WLS. My cousin had her surgery almost 30years, when it was called stomach stapling she has gained every bit she lost plus more. My Niece had the same thing and she has been successful keeping it off but she is sick all the time. My friend had her's done 20 some odd years ago she has bad anemia and needs Iron infusions all the time. When they had their surgeries there weren't things like the internet or even support groups to attend. They were not told to take their Vitamins They had to pretty wing it!! That is why I am so glad I waited until I did because look at what we have at our fingertips!!! We have DR that are better-educated and realize what it takes for our success!!! This is a GIFT that we are given so that we can take back our lives, but it's not a CURE ALL. It is a TOOL, we have to use it to help us but we also have to work for it too. Good Luck with everything and keep us posted on your SUCCESSES!!!

    Vomiting

Hang in there, it should get better but...on the other hand, vomiting can be caused by strictures or an ulcer. Are you eating slowly and small bites? Sometimes if you drink or eat too fast it can make you vomit or have pain. Too big of bites can too. Is this something new or has it been going on for awhile? You could call your team just to be safe. Tell them what is gong on. Good Luck Keep us in the know!!!
  6. Hi Missbeautry16 I had my RNY 3 years ago. I am one of the lucky because I still have no physical hunger at all. BUT....wuth that being said I still fight mind hunger!! It really it's sad that the WLS doesn't fix our heads!! I also didn't have much gas after my surgery. I have gas now but I use PAPAYA ENZYMES and they have absolutely have saved my life. I did become LACTOSE INTOLERANT but some dairy doesn't bother me. Strange but true. Now the best advice I have is KEEP YOUR EYES ONN THE PRIZE!! Remember why you are having this done. Follow everything that your Surgeon and nutritionist guidelines. Everything they tell you help. The Preop helps with your liver. It shrinks it so the DR can get in and do what he needs to do, the have to move it around so if it's smaller there is less chance of bleeding. Postop everything they tell you to do about the stages of food do them. You just had major surgery and our new pouches need time to heal. After your surgery, you will need to sip and sip some more it is very important to get your fluids in the small pouch makes it so easy to get dehydrated quickly. Also get up and walk as soon and as often as you can. I hope this helps you and I look forward to following your journey. Good Luck

    Stricture-HELP!

Ask your DR for DEXALENT. It is what my PCP prescribed for me and it works fast and very well.

Do I really need a passport?

My hubby went to Juarez Mexico for his WLS. At the airport I showed my Driver's License and due to having lost (with my RNY in July 2013) and the guard kept looking at my DL and then at me. $ times he said how good I looked. Then when I went thru the customs I had my X-rays showing that I had rods in my back. They didn't even look at them but when I went thru their machine it started flashing. They ask me if I had anything on me that was medal, which I had already told them that I had rods in my back I had no pockets but they patted me down anyway!! They made us throw away our Water and our Protein drinks. I feel like I could have made a stink because my hubby was doing his preop and I was a WL patient but let me tell you when you have to find stuff for a WLS person it is very hard to find stuff we can have. Incidentally, coming back into the States from Mexico they checked our baggage both in and out of Mexico and took our Passports and checked all of our medications. If you take prescriptions you will need to have them all in your prescription bottles. Just a heads up. BTW going into Mexico they have guards with guns.

    Excited!

I can say this for sure!! KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!!! Remember why you are doing this surgery. Just think if you don't do the preop they could cancel your surgery. Also, I hope they explained that the preop is best to shrink your liver which in turn makes the surgery better for the Dr and for you!! Afterward, you won't have a hard time. You more than likely won't be hungry at all. for the most part!! You can do this!! After all of your hard prep for your journey you are almost there. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

    Newbie with questions :)

HHMM We didn't go to Angeles Hospital. But they took us there to begin with. But then took us to the other Hospital. How many days did they tell you that you would be in the hospital? Dr Rodriques did hubby's surgery. He was supposed to be HEAD OF THE HOSPITAL> LOL Good Luck hon!! Keep us posted.

    No passport or birth certificate

We went to Mexico in June. Getting our Passport for my hubby was kind of like a nightmare. It got down to us receiving it on a Sunday and we left Monday. Because of his MOM changing his name from Clarence Eugene to Eugene Clarence without doing it on his birth certificate they gave us the run around. It ended up costing us $27.00 more to have it over night delivered. We needed our birth certificate and ID cards. They are strict on having all of their ducks in a row. I sure hope you can get it all together. Good Luck

    Newbie with questions :)

Band07, I'm curious about the MINI BYPASS. Is it basically like the full RNY? And do they still need to be able to put 5 or 6 incisions Laparoscopic Surgery?

    Newbie with questions :)

Kirbykendall06 My hubby and I went thru BeLiteWeight in June. The Dr and his son are very good. But...I don't want to alarm you ..... the Hospital wasn't much like we were told. The nurses didn't wear gloves or wash they use handsantizer, they don't have wash clothes we had to take our own. The language barrier was terrible. We were told that we would get a suite but instead we got a very small room and I slept on the window sill pad. The pain medication was really weak. The DR's have surgery one after another. He was there until 9:30pm. When he was released we didn't get discharge papers. My hubby was supposed to have the RNY but due to past surgeries for the revision in Sept 2013 and the abscesses he got afterwards made it impossible for them to finish a RNY so he had the Sleeve. We had info for the RNY and I also had my RNY 3 year's ago but was told that the RNY and the Sleeve are pretty much the same. So we really didn't have much to go on. Just try to be more verbal about things and push for your rights. I really don't want to upset you, Dr. ROD was great for sure. When I told SYLVIA about our concerns she said they have tried to get them corrected but their work ethics aren't like the USA. Good Luck Hon. Do you have someone going with you? Maybe you won't have it like we did. The Hotel that Slyvia told us about was awesome and as were the Shuttle drivers. Please let me know how it all goes. BTW We are just glad that the DR could do something for him...he has cancer in his kidney and they can't do anything about it until he loses weight, so we are THANKFUL for him!!

    Plastics in Mexico

WOW!! Following I would like to know what part of Mexico it will be. We went to Juarez, Mexico in June for my hubby's Sleeve surgery. I WOULD NOT go there again!! Now I have heard great things about Tijuana. That might be something to check out. I had my Panni done 1 year ago here in Oregon. My PS removed 10 plus #'s. But didn't do all that we had discussed. So I am not totally happy with my results. I started asking about some things I wasn't happy with. He told me that he would give me a deal on a Breast Lift and Lipo and would give me a great deal!! $6,000 to $7,000. He also told me not to stress about these surgeries because these are happy surgeries!! I feel like he was trying to make more business!! Incidentally, my Panni ended up costing my insurance $32,000.00 due to a reaction to the muscle relaxant they used so I was in ICU for 7 hours with a tube done my throat!! Not GOOD!! If only he would have told me about needing LIPO and I would need a tummy tuck I would have gladly paid the extra!! I'm 60 YO and I stress about my body image all of the time but not sure if I would have another surgery.

    Day after surgery

I'm 3 years out but I was given liquid pain meds. At that time I was on potassium and the pill was HUGE!!! The Dr told me to crush it and put it into applesauce, because I wasn't supposed to take any pills bigger than an eraser tip on a pencil. It tasted so GROSS then they gave me a liquid potassium YUKKY. I stopped taking that until I could get a smaller pill. We do what we have to do!! RIGHT
  16. Hi G8rgrl72, I know it feels so hard right now. But everything you are doing now will help with your surgery to begin with. It is used to shrink your liver which in turn makes your surgery go easier. When they move your liver around to do the surgery it can make it bleed so the smaller liver is easier to work with. Also this Preop diet is a way to prepare you for how you will need to eat postop. Anything you can do to prepare yourself for what is to come is very important. Also know that postop you won't have to deal with the physical hunger. Now the surgery doesn't fix our minds sad but true. But you can do this. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!! Think of how much you want this journey!! Good Luck
  17. I'm 3 years out and let me tell you I have lots of gas and bloating. I can't eat much meat for Protein so I eat BEANS! I take PAPAYA ENZYMES they are a natural aid and they help with gas and aid with my digestion. I buy them at Walmart for less than $5.00. They have saved me many times. Might be worth looking into. Good Luck
  18. I think most of us still see the fat in our mirror's. I'm 3 years out and there are days that I still feel FAT!! I weigh 125#'s now and have maintained my weight loss ( all except a 8# gain) for 21/2 years. Do you know how long it took me to stop heading for the PLUS SIZED clothes. When I went shopping my daughter would say, Look Mom this will fit you. Of course I would argue that it wouldn't and it did. My STATS: HW 249 ( I did weigh 285#'s before but managed to loose some) SW 232 LW117 CW 125#'s. I now wear a med blouse and a size 6t to 8 jeans. Now I weigh less than I did when I got married at 17 years old, I weighed 145#'s then and I thought I looked FAT!! I didn't know what FAT was!! I may weigh less now but I don't look any thing near to what I did back then. Whenever I lost weight my skin never never looked like it does now. I had a Panni and my PS removed 10 plus #'s but I still have skin issues that I don't think I will have surgery for now. I'm 60 years old and I have found clothes can hide a multitude of sins!! I belong to a few other support groups and it is so nice to be able to see that I am not the only one that feels like this. I think women think it more than men but I don't know the statsitics on that. One of the thing that I have heard is to take a pcture in a door way then use the same doorway to measure your sucess with because our minds can play with us very hard. Good Luck in your journey!!

    Newbie with questions :)

They do recommend the RNY if you have Reflux because I have heard that a Sleeve can make it worse. I had my RNY 3 years ago. I'm not familiar with the Mini Gastric Bypass. But I have lost 132#'s and then gained 8#'s back. But it is amazing how those 8#'s have made me feel so much better. Here are my STATS: HW 249 (this time I was up to 285#'s at one point) SW 232 LW 117 CW 125#'s and I have maintained my weight for 21/2 years!! This is a AMAZING JOURNEY and if you follow your DR's and Nutritionist's guidelines you will do GREAT!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  20. roger star, My hubby also went to Mexico but we went to Jurarez. I'm happy that your trip went so well. We did hear great thinks about Tijuana. Our experience wasn't good. But it is what it is. Due to so many problems with his Lap Band and a failed Revision to the RNY they had to do the Sleeve, I had a RNY on July 2, 2013 and have had excellent results. His Sleeve was on June 3, 2016 and he is losing his weight pretty slow. But his mind hunger is getting him in trouble!! Good Luck on your results!!
  21. Congratulations!! This journey you are about to take is ssssooo incredible!! You are about to take your life back!! It sounds to me like you are a much needed Mom!! So excited to follow your journey with you!!

What's your best protein shake recipe?

If you are wanting to up your Protein I recommend GENEPRO it is nonflavored and is 30Grams of protein. I add it to my coffee when I do Expresso. You can add it to anything. I buy it online. I use AMAZON PRIME so I don't have to pay S/H. The trick I have found is to take a little warm Water add your scoop and whisk it before you add it. I even take my chocolate Almond Milk and add a scoop of it, the same way tempering it before adding it to my cold chocolate Almond milk. Just a little tid bit of info. I don't know which surgery you had but I have been told by my Surgeon that anything over 30grams of protein is a waste because our bodies can only handle 30grams at a time so all over that is just lost. I love ATKINS Protein drinks they have 15grams, MYOPLEX is another good one. If you want recipes you can check out some of the online sites like: Pintrest, The world according to eggface has many different recipes too. Good Luck

Newbie to the Forums and RNY

Hi Mrs.Elliott8791 I am 3 years out from my RNY. This has been one of the best things I have done for myself and my family. From your VSG do you still have any restrictions? I don't know much about the SLEEVE but my hubby had one June 3, 2016 and he doesn't seem to be able to lose weight very fast. At least you aren't waiting until you gain everything back. Good for you!! I have had good results with only a few quirks I did have strictures and needed 5 ENDOSCOPES with 4 DILATIONS with my last one on Jan 2015. No more problems since!! Thank goodness. My HW 249 SW 232 LW 117#'s CW 125#'s. I am no able to exercise which I feel is my saving grace. I walk 4 to 5 miles 4 to 5 days a week. I eat Protein first ( most of the time that is all I can get in) I don't drink when I eat. I don't drink Carbonated drinks at all. You already have a handle on whAt you need to do. I think you will do GREAT!!! I hope everything works out for you!! Good Luck
  25. I also think that not having even something like a treat sets us up for failure, I do have things that are SF. But as far as not getting the dumping syndrome with SF stuff isn't in my case: I can eat SF hard candy etc but give me SF chocolate and look out. I became Lactose Intolerant after my RNY so I think that is part of my problem, I am 3 years out from my RNY and I have lost 124#'s (which I did in 6 months) I have maintained that weight for 2 and 1/2 years. My lowest weight was 117#'s, so I did gain 8#'s back but I can tell you just 8#'s difference for how I felt is AMAZING!!! My Surgeon and Nutritionist both told me that in time there are no FORBIDDEN FOODS you just have to do it in MODERATION. This is my approach to my eating plan and my exercise program, so far it has worked very well for me!!
