I had surgery this past Monday, March 21st. I felt really great the next day so I went home...bad mistake! Today, Thursday, feel a lot better! I have only lost a pound since Monday. I wonder if that's normal. I can't wait to have reduced pain in my back and leg...and new clothes!

Things I've noticed 4 weeks after surgery:
    1. As my body shrinks, I kinda have a butt now.
    2. I'm slowly able to put clothes which are too big in a bag to donate.
    3. I make time to get 10,000 steps per day.
    4. Finally considering a personal trainer.
    5. I sleep better than before.
    6. My shoes fit better than before.
    7. My face is slimmer.
    8. I smile a lot more.
    9. I am more conscious about how I look when I leave the house.
    10. I have no regrets about the sleeve. Best medical decision I have ever elected to do in my life!!

So I had my surgery done on 3/9 at around 1230. I was hoping to stay in the hospital only one night but my surgeon decided to keep and extra day. Especially since when I drank he contrast (eww) it still showed in x-rays that it was sitting on top of my stomach. However the next day, they did another x-ray and it's all better now. Walking is not that bad just full of gas, and the hunger is curved, I'm surprised.

zabbakaye reacted to lachellove in One heck of a roller coaster that I won't dare stop riding!
I started this process in June/2015 the surgery was August/2015. I went through so many different emotions, one of the largest hurdles was bored eating. My family didn't support me. The only 2 people that did was my husband and sister. Everyone else said it was the "easy way out". I couldn't play with my children. Go on field trips with them or anything like that. I would sit on the bench during the time at the park because I couldn't keep up with them with out feeling out of breath and embarrassing them. I Had to sleep downstairs sometimes because I couldn't make it up stairs. (Laziness) Coming to this decision was never an easy task, but ultimately the best decision I've made in a long time. I've hit stalls, have extra skin, boobs are non existent etc,   but I wouldn't change anything about this journey. Sure I can't eat like I did before but who would miss that when that's the reason I was overweight to begin with. There are days that I want a burger with the works lol, but I'm learning to curb my cravings or wants. I love the new me and I won't allow food to win ever again.

zabbakaye reacted to Santiago Draco in July 2015 to March 2016, 112 lbs and 16 inch waist size drop
Just wanted to post a quick update on my progress.
Aside from feeling like I just became 20 years younger.... I've lost a ton and am still losing. On July 7 of 2015 I was 320 lbs, I'm 208 today. Waist size went from a 56 to a 40 (and 40 is a tad large). To say the least I'm feeling wonderful and life is great.
Overall I've had zero complications. My Diabetes type II is gone completely, blood pressure went from 145/90 to 115/60 ish. Cholesterol is great, feel fantastic and pretty much all the "getting older" body pains have just about disappeared.
The best analogy I can come up with for people is that your body is like a machine. If it's clogged up with gunk (fat) it's going to operate poorly, have low power and break down more often. Keep it well maintained and it will perform properly.
Before the surgery I had trouble riding my bike (and mountain biking was out of the question), walking was painful and simply moving around hurt (and forget getting up and down from the floor without something for support). Now I ride my bike anywhere and sprint on it like a kid (at least it feels so to me!) and no longer need the AC at 68 at night to not sweat and in general I don't sweat at all unless I'm exerting myself.
This is the best thing I've done for myself since I can remember and I highly recommend the sleeve for anyone struggling with obesity. It's a new lease on life.
    Cheers.

    Hi all,

I have had my eyes opened this week to how important it is to follow the rules and how VSG can is still effective IF you use it properly. I had my surgery in January of 2013, so I'm just over 3 years out. I am 5'2 and my highest weight was around 210. I got down ton180 on the day of surgery. I lost the weight very easily and reached my goal of 125 in 7-9 months. My lowest weight was 112. I was very thin and with my frame looked emaciated and unhealthy. I wanted to gain and stay at about 120.

Before I knew it, 120 came and went and about a week ago I found myself at 145. That's over 30 lbs from my lowest and well into the "overweight" category. My habits were awful. I was drinking Diet Coke again. And a lot of it! Grazing a lot. Ritz crackers, snack cakes, chips, lots of carby foods. The amount of food I ate was a lot less than before, but I was eating often and a lot of the wrong things!

This is crazy, but I weighed 3 days ago and I was 144.6. That day I followed the rules- lots of protein-- eggs, chicken breasts, etc. I drank LOTS of Water. I still had my morning sugary latte, though. I exercised a lot! Yesterday I weighed in at 140.6. I was so encouraged and hadn't seen that kind of weight loss in so long. Yesterday I stuck with the plan and with eating right and exercise today I am 138.6. That's 6 lbs in 2 days! I know it's primarily water weight, but I feel so much better now that the scale is going down and not up.

It is crazy that after all I have been through and how hard I worked to lose the weight, that I have let it creep back up. At this point, I would love to be able to get back in the 120s and stay there! I am glad I stopped the gaining before it got even more out of hand, but I wish I had stopped it sooner! I hope my story helps others to recognize this and get back on track!

This surgery is LIFE CHANGING! Before surgery I never thought I would see "one" derland again. It just hasn't been possible in the past 15 years or so. I kept telling myself, "if you get below 225 you will feel so much better". My doctor said, You will be between 135 and 145. I did NOT believe him. Nine months later, here I am at 136 wearing a size 6! However, surgery is only a tool. It is up to you. I take my health very seriously now. People ask me how I can stay dedicated...well, every morning I look at 4 small scars. Those are my reminder. That's what I did to save my LIFE!!! I also keep a "fat" picture on my fridge. It's to remind me of what can happen if I start to be nonchalant about my eating and exercising. I also look into the beautiful eyes of my baby and remember that I will be her role model.
Weight loss patients tend to keep their weight off better than those that have lost with just diet and exercise. It is all up to you. You have to remember why you did this. You have to stay motivated. Some days, it is hard. I bought a t shirt that says, "excuses don't burn calories". It is a motivator for me.
    Good luck in your journey!
