I am type II and was taken off of my diabetes meds during the pre-op diet phase. I am taking nothing now (almost 1 month out of surgery) and my A1C was 5.8 when I went to see the doctor this week. I no longer require meds.
The doctor also was able to cut my blood pressure meds in half prior to surgery.
    These are HUGE blessings!!!!

@@pinkbunies Thank you for sharing this with me your story is really touching and relatable. I first apologize for your lost. Secondly, I applaud your courage to decide to make a decision that you knew was right for yourself. I too lost quite a few loved ones to diabetes, and still made the wrong choices and procrastinated. This really is inspiring as well. Thank you very much for sharing this with me, and congratulations on your successful path:-)

I am/was type 2 diabetic that was using meds and diet to keep under control. The doctor had me stop taking meds immediately following surgery. My last med was the morning of surgery. Immediately post surgery my sugar was very low and then gave me some glucose to bring it up and then said no more meds. I am 10 weeks post op and I still check sugars periodically but my sugars have stayed in control. Lost to date is 45lbs. I test now mainly when I feel that I may be running low.

I was a Type 2 diabetic on Janumet pills and Lantus Solo injections. My pre-op A1C, with meds, was 6.9, down from 13.5 before meds. Got sleeved on June 24, 2014, and a week later went off all my diabetes meds and my daily tests were normal. Yesterday, 5 1/2 months post-op, I met with my endocrinologist who told me that my A1C was.... 5.6! That's below the 5.7 threshold for pre-diabetes, so as far as he is concerned, I'm no longer even pre-diabetic. The apnea also went away a week or two after surgery and I was able to give up the machine. Cholesterol hangs on 6 months or longer, I'm told, and that was true in my recent labs.
@@TiaMarie, Congratulations on making a wonderful decision to take control of your health and your life! Good luck!!!!

I was sleeved on 9/26. I had Type 2 diabetes and was taking Januvia. The surgeon said my blood sugar would go down in 3 - 4 days. It dropped after two days.... VERY happy. My co-morbidities, sleep apnea and fatty liver will disappear in 3 - 4 months post surgery.

I am Type II diabetic. I was taking Janumet twice a day and 75 units of Levemir twice a day. I had my sleeve surgery on 11/17. I haven't had any insulin since I got out of the hospital. I am still taking the Janumet and will until my blood sugar drops under 120. I'm almost there. Also I was on 6 other meds, and including the Janumet I am on 3 meds now. I am thrilled and hope to
be off the blood pressure meds before long.

Today November 13th is exactly a month of being sleeved. I can't believe I am down 30 lbs. I feel so much better and can't get past the thought that this is actually working. I have been on many diets as many of you on here have, but I never had these results. Please tell me that the weight will continue to come off as long as I keep doing what I am doing...which is following doctors orders.

I'm a type 2 diabetic and was debating between the gastric bypass and the gastric sleeve. I decided the sleeve was the best option for me. My question to you guys would be in what ways did the sleeve improve diabetes for you? How soon were you able to notice the changes? Did your doctor decrease your medications or better yet were they taken away all together? I'm currently pre-op and my surgery date is 1/6/15 (I'm so excited, I can barely wait lol) and just wanted to know how the sleeve could better my condition. Thank you:-)
