    The only exception to the sugar alcohol rule is erythritol. 90% is absorbed in the small intestine and excreted, unchanged in the urine. It has no affect on blood sugar levels and therefore none of the sugar addiction affects. It may be hard to find things sweetened only with erythritol, but it is available in powder form, so something to consider using in baked goods or if you want to make your own sweet treats.
    Personally I've just stuck with real sugar from the get go. I don't seem to have a carb addiction. Oddly, my ultimate postop craving is for nuts.

    There are fast food items that wouldn't be too bad...just stick with the Proteins and leave out the carbs. Burger without the bun, grilled chicken, chili, fajita burritos (just don't eat the tortilla), Etc. I'm single and not a fan of cooking, so I get a lot of stuff from my local deli. BBQ ribs, broccoli bacon salad, turkey curry salad, egg salad (served on a slice of tomato), meatloaf that I cut up and freeze into individual meal portions, sushi. Also, I don't get a lunch break, so I always keep Protein Bars, mixed nuts, pumpkin seeds, and Jerky around to snack on while I'm driving. For sweets, I'm a fan of frozen pineapple chunks, frozen blueberries, and I make ice cream with Protein powders, Greek yogurt, milk and Torani syrups. Just finished a batch of banana protein with peanuts and started a batch of muscle milk red velvet cake, caramel Syrup and chopped walnuts. Frozen vanilla protein with OJ or mio tangerine drops taste just like a dreamsicle.
    If you do like to cook, but are bored with the same old stuff, there are great recipes on bariatricfoodie and the world according to eggface.
    And If you haven't tried them, Quest bar banana nut muffin or cinnamon bun flavors might make a good accompaniment with your coffee.< /p>

    I try to eat as clean as possible so I shy away from overly processed foods. I'm also allergic to most fake sugars and stevia. I use real sugar, raw honey and occasionally maple Syrup. Once thing I discovered was once I stopped with the fake, processed foods I craved sugar a whole lot less. Most days fruit will curb any sweet cravings I have. While I avoid anything I feel I would binge on, I will buy something like 1 Hershey's kiss because I'm LOVE chocolate. This is not about a life of deprivation, this is about changing our eating habits to more reasonable ones.

    I'd eat pretty much the quantities that everyone else is mentioning BUT, I'd have a diet coke with it. Yanno, because that offsets it.

    the Russell stover stuff was expressly forbidden to me by the surgeon and nutritionist because the are full of sugar alcohols which is sugar , your body turns them into sugar more slowly so they don't cause a high glucose surge in your blood but the sugar is the same once it does hit the blood. So might as well just have the real one.

    @@sweatpants One of my favorite deserts are low carb mini cheesecakes made in cupcake wrappers! I don't use any "crust" I never liked the crust. They have recipes on line when You bake them like that you have little individual servings AND you can use sugar free Jello to change the flavors of the cheesecake by adding a little to the mix! Love! And good with coffee!

    @Elode. I do need to find some that I can just pop in my mouth. I made some oatmeal, applesauce chocolate chip cookie drops. No sugar added. They didn't bake up like I would've wanted, but I'll have to stop being lazy and try again. You have anything you like?

    if you haven't done so already, I highly recommend cutting out sugar as much as you possibly can. It creates those cravings and also stimulates your appetite a lot.

    I can immediately tell the difference for days after I have something with lots of sugar in it so I try to abstain completely.

    You should experiment with some new recipes, depending on what your doing there are a lot Of really good low carb deserts and recipes.

    That was me too. I am a sweets freak. Oreos or warm homemade Cookies and milk were my favorite and my curse. I can't believe how much sugar I used to consume. I could ear 20 of the toll house cookies at a time.

    Donuts, cake and pastries. I can put 6 donuts away without even thinking about it. Oreos? A whole package easy.

    Yeah, it's a little scary to remember what I used to put in my body with no regard for consequences. Now, I still sometimes have a problem with putting too much on my plate. I think I can eat it, then I get sick trying to. I'm working on that and I'm getting used to not eating ad much as my wife does and sharing an entree when we go out. Also. I never realized how many commercials and billboards are about fast food snd eating. Jeez. I'm a food snob now. Lol.

    Yeah, it's a little scary to remember what I used to put in my body with no regard for consequences. Now, I still sometimes have a problem with putting too much on my plate. I think I can eat it, then I get sick trying to. I'm working on that and I'm getting used to not eating ad much as my wife does and sharing an entree when we go out. Also. I never realized how many commercials and billboards are about fast food snd eating. Jeez. I'm a food snob now. Lol.

    Before VSG: I am most definitely a volume eater. I like the feeling of being full and satisfied.
    I used to LOVE to go to Olive Garden because I would eat about 4 bowls of salad (equivalent to one of the giant bowls), then I'd eat breadsticks (anywhere from 2-8) AND my meal which was always something with Alfredo. Then mop it all up with one more breadstick. Then get some of those little fried doughnuts and chocolate dipping sauce. Mmmmmmmm.
    I also enjoyed a homewrecker burrito from Moe's along with chips and cheese dip.
    Popeyes' chicken is really good. I would eat two breasts, two wings, half a large fry and a large red Beans and rice.
    I'm not a huge snacker or sweets person but I have eaten half a sheet cake in one sitting on a few occasions. But it has to be whipped icing, I don't like buttercream.
    After VSG: I just ate 1 1/2 deviled eggs for lunch and I'm full. :-)

    As was I. We may THINK we aren't "eating that much", but I'll bet if we actually documented like we do now the amount of calories, fat grams, sugar grams, etc...YIKES! And I own up to it %100 now. I tell people "I know why I got/get fat....it's not family history, glandular, metabolism etc...(although I do know those contribute also) but too much food and not enough movement. Period."

    Back in college, I could do the most damage in private. A pint of Ben & Jerry's. 1/2 tub of icing. A jar of queso with corn chips. A frozen pizza. Two rows of Oreos. When I got married, I cut back, but the two of us still "put away" tons of food at one sitting. We'd rarely ever have leftovers, and we'd quickly fill the trash with pre-made food packages... It's hard to wrap our brains around that now, and dear hubby didn't have surgery (he's lost 65 lbs as a byproduct of being supportive ). It's like night and day for both of us.

    An entire frozen pizza (cooked of course) with about a half a pound of cheese and a can of olives added to the toppings.
    An Entire Recipe of Shrimp Alfredo ( entire jar of alfredo sauce and a pound of shrimp)
    The aforementioned Footlong tuna Sub and chips
    Crusty sourdough bread, the whole loaf one slice at a time, slathered with BUTTER.
    popcorn, the entire bag was just an after dinner snack.< /p>
    An entire bag of Rold Gold pretzels or BBQ potato chips and a quart of milk.
    OMG looking back it's no wonder.....

    It the past I would eat several plates at a buffet. We went to one on Thanksgiving and I had one salad plate of food. I could also polish off a whole pint of Ben and Jerrys. Now a little goes a long way.

    And it wasn't like I was taking time to enjoy the food...I called it mindless eating. Now I enjoy food. I had homemade popcorn tonight and it tasted great.
