    realrawuncutsleeve reacted to SCSleeve in CALLING ANY SC SLEEVERS! MY SURGERY DATE IS...JAN. 20. IM SUPER NERVOUS NOW!
    So far everything has gone smoother than I thought it might. I had major health problems last year, so I went into it feeling weaker than I would have liked, so I worried my recovery would be slow and frustrating. It's been picture perfect, and I felt like my doc fully prepared me for what recovery should be like. The preop diet was rough, but knowing I was choosing this surgery and the benefit it will help me achieve made me not tempted to cheat even once. I repeated my mantra of "I chose this and I picked this doc to tell me how to do it, so I'm going to follow the instructions." That helped, especially not being able to enjoy Christmas food.
    The surgery itself went quickly, and the hospital made every effort to reduce pain and nausea, so they provided meds any time I asked. I was discharged after two nights and came home on a full liquid diet. That got old, but I'm already on puréed foods since yesterday and variety is great. Since I started the preop diet, I'm down 20 pounds total (9 since surgery weight). I came home from the hospital weighing 8 pounds more than surgery day because of all the fluids they pumped in, but that came off in a couple of days.
    I'm feeling stronger every day and have been walking as much as I can tolerate. Today's adventure: walking through costco while it's so cold outside. .
    I think the key is knowing what to expect going in, so that every little gas pain, muscle soreness, nausea, etc., seems normal and doesn't frustrate or derail you. I know that was part of the deal and it's been totally tolerable. Everyone is different and I'm lucky not to have had severe symptoms, but at least I was prepared for the ones I've had. 2015 is going to be great!

    Not that many people are big-boned.
    What if you don't like being healthy?
    What if you don't like having more energy? What if you don't like shopping for cute clothing in regular sizes? What if you don't like outstanding nutrition that gets you off your meds and reduces inflammation? What if you don't like getting compliments? What if you don't like not having to go to the doctor all the time?
    You are in the hardest part of the process right now.....worrying and waiting. If you are not getting support from family and friends, then come here to the forum. We'll talk you down from the ceiling.

    Big boned, thick, prettiest big woman, beautiful face, etc...heard it all before. All excuses. The facts are that being Obese/Morbidly Obese will cause your lifespan to be uncomfortable, full of meds/ailments & ultimately shortened.. I'd rather live longer than be the prettiest fat girl in the room.

    I started using skin firming lotion. I always lotion my body as soon as I get out of the shower so it wasn't a big deal. I'm hoping by using that my skin will be able to catch up to my weight loss

    I just turned 30 and I'm 7 months out from surgery. I have lost 73 lbs and my skin is going back to normal pretty good! I have 35 more lbs to lose before I hit my goal and I feel confident that I won't have that much hangy skin. And on a good note I haven't lost my boobs, lol. Good luck to you! Happy New Year!!

    I used to promote products by itworks global and they have a product called defining gel. I was on pinterest the other day and saw a pin where a lady who had WLS used the defining gel (and their wraps) and that helped her not have as much saggy skin. She was an older woman, maybe close to 60. I plan to go back to using those products post op as well. The products are not really for weight loss but promote tightening, timing and firming.

    Kids, we can't control a lot of this stuff.
    However, we can control:
    * How much we weigh
    * How much we exercise
    * How we react to things that we can't control.
    Don't worry. Be happy.

    There really is no magic answer. What we know helps is getting adequate Protein and exercise including weight lifting. Those just aren't guarantees. There are other factors that come into play; age, race, genetics, how much weight you have to loose. I keep hearing about people suddenly using creams and moisturizers. I'm not sure how much stock I put in that. I'm Black and I have moisturized my entire body every day of my life as our skin shows it when it's dry. I've also heard that wearing light compression garments can help. I wear compression yoga pants and tops when I am working out. Partly because I want to fight against loose skin, but also because I am more comfortable working out when everything isn't jiggling. I also have always exfoliated regularly because I like my skin to look nice.
    Bottom line, you do the best you can do prevent excess skin but there is no magic formula.

    My Nut, and fitness coach said the best thing you can do to ensure the most bounce back, and no Hair loss, is to get all of your Protein, Water, and Vitamins in, from the start. Then, start exercise, with weight training, when allowed. Do not skip exercise, and do not avoid protein. You need the protein to develop, and keep muscle. good luck! I am 39, and should be scheduled this month for my sleeve. I am excited, and afraid at the same time.

    BLERDgirl, it was just a simple question to guage how women around my age and their skin has responded. Alot of women on here who are older than me have made comments that their skin doesn't bounce back like it used too, so I just wanted to know how women my age felt? I wasn't asking in such a way that I will regret the surgery. I was asking from a point of curiosity.

    I'm well over 29, but honestly, does it matter? Will you not have the surgery if you skin does't bounce back? I've thought about it and I realized that it doesn't make sense to worry about it. I'll do the best I can to keep my skin tight and if it isn't I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
