realrawuncutsleeve reacted to Ava324 in One-year anniversary today! (with pics :D)
It's been an amazing year. I'm in genuine awe over how this process has affected every aspect of my life.
The biggest impact is of course that my life expectancy has dramatically improved. My polycistic ovarian syndrome, insulin resistance, and depression were spiraling out of control. I was 25 years old and on a fast track to knee surgeries, diabetes, and other co-morbidities. I honestly don't think I would have made it much past 50.
These days I'm active, healthy, confident, and happy. I had my one-year follow-up appointment Monday, and my lab work was all perfect. They don't need to see me for a year, so now every doctor is on an annual basis. That blows my freaking mind. I've made many new good friends: with members and trainers at my gym, with support group peers, people here on bariatic pal, and with fellow Obesity Action Coalition convention attendees. I traveled to Orlando for the convention in September and learned so much much more about our disease, and I will be at the 2015 convention in San Antonio. I'm even putting feelers out for a possible career in obesity prevention and treatment.
I've attached a few before and after comparisons. My husband hasn't had surgery, but he's lost about 65 pounds of his own. He joins me three times a week for boot camp and is 100% supportive of keeping foods out of the house and our vocabulary. I couldn't ask for a better partner! I also attached a comparison of photos I took with my cat... The Oct. 2013 photo is profound to me, because it epitomizes the cloud of depression and shame I was living in. I was literally hiding myself behind my kitten. I've come so so far.
My highest ever documented weight was 289 lbs. Start of process, I was 268, and day of surgery I was at 254.
This morning, I weighed 142.4 lbs, only two pounds from goal. It would have sounded good to meet my goal at my one-year anniversary, but this morning I was my lowest ever, which I'm more than happy with. In total I've lost 147 lbs (at least) and weigh less than half of what I did.
My body's set-point is forever 289+, and I'll always have to manage my obesity. Today I'm happy and proud as hell, and I'm confident that I'll maintain this new healthy and fulfilling life.

Instead of thinking "I love him, so why does he treat me this way?" start thinking "Why would I love someone who treats me this way?"

I first heard of the sleeve in sept...yes...3 months ago..lol. Joined this site Oct 1st and haven't stopped thinking about it.
I've watched videos on YouTube...joined Facebook groups and search the hashtag #vsg on Instagram daily. Some would say I'm obsessed, but I just wanna do all my research. I've even read medical journals at my hospital when I go to work.
Unfortunately I also have to do the 6 month supervised weight loss...so I won't be sleeved til the end of March 2015.

Remember this so once the weight starts coming off you can see how far you've come! Hell you should take a picture And that can be your incentive to help you through the pre-op diet (assuming you have one).

My surgeon told me the first 6 weeks you should focus more on healing than losing and sometimes you might gain a little weight before your 1st fill.

That is great progression! Dont get down about it. Remember, you didnt gain that weight over night and you wont lose it over night (:

I can definitely see a difference in the scale between weeks where I get in at least 3 days at the gym and weeks where I only get there 1 day. If you can even get those 30 minutes of walking in every day, you'll see and feel the difference. Keep up the great work!!!

I am 4 months out from surgery and have lost 20 lbs. I felt really badly about this until I started looking at it a different way. That's a little over a pound a week loss! So even if I'm on the slow side, I'm on the right track! And since I'm getting closer to the green zone and exercising, the weight is coming off a lot faster. Hang in there!!!! ????

"they" initially complimented you on your weight loss
telling you they see the loss in your face and boobs
    well thats ok
when she commented that "boobs" aren't hanging on your stomach
    "kindof" a left handed compliment
i don't think it was meant as being mean/rude
it does sound weird to hear that comment (especially if this was not a GOOD/close friend
take the comment as it was intended
    any/all compliments are good
even if it might sound "unkooth" (msp )
    60 lbs down!!!
    keep up the great job
    kathy
    congrats

Lol! I guess it's all in how you take it, I would take it as a complement IF I knew it wasn't said in a malicious way. Maybe it would be different in my case because my co-workers Are friends. If they aren't your friends then tell them to suck it! In the nicest way possible : )

That sounds like the kind of compliment a kid who doesn't know any better would give. It did remind me I now have more of a lap as my stomach no longer sits on my legs, but I wouldn't want someone else to say so.

Really, do you value their opinion? Jealousy can be shown in many ways, including a snarky compliment. Just smile and says thanks. I feel great!
