Proud2BMe got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Still addicted to carbs!
The only way to beat carb addiction is to stop eating them. After you go through withdrawals your body will stop craving them. However, if you allow yourself to eat carbs again the cravings will return.
When you cut them out you will notice you start craving other things likes nuts and Peanut Butter for example.
I cringe when I read posts from people here who talk about eating Cereal for Breakfast or mashed potatoes or baked potatoes. Feel so bad for them. Our bodies turn that into pure sugar. One potato is equal to one cup of sugar.

I went to one surgeon who told me that I needed to be within 15 lbs of my goal weight before he would even consider doing skin removal. I'm going to do better and go below goal by maybe 5 lbs.

You don't have to buy Protein shakes from doctors. They say that to make you buy their overpriced stuff. Body Fortress from Walmart will do just fine and it's only like $17 something a container.

The docs make enough dough, I'm not adding to their Mercedes payment by buying anything that comes out of their office. They are supposed to be doctors, not retail salesmen.
Protein is Protein. Get whatever shakes you like elsewhere. And tell the doc to stick to doctoring.
I got my shakes from costco and they worked just fine for me. Tasted great, lots of protein and a whole lot cheaper.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from DMH82 in Im dying of thurst CONSTANTLY! Any1 have any suggestions?
Well, at this point you don't need to be sucking on ice. You should be sipping on actual Water all day long. Take a sip literally every couple of minutes. Moisturize during this process or your hands and lips will suffer. As time passes you will reach the point where you will be able to drink as normal. I'm almost a full year out and I could chug an entire bottle of Water if I wanted to. But at your stage I was forced to just take baby sips.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from Talaria in Dr. Nowzaradan's Diet Pre Surgery?
If you do it right then you will have large weight losses right after surgery. Plus, the bigger you are the more weight you will lose. I lost over a 100 lbs in the first 6 months after my surgery. Now, I'm not even a full year out and have lost a total of 176 lbs.
The problem with the people on the show is that most of them do not follow the diet and just eat whatever they want. They show them eating crap they should not be eating after the surgery. So it's no shocker when they end up losing so very little. The past one I watched with "Betty Jo" was a joke. She was celebrating her success when it was obvious she was still dangerously obese and then got pregnant on top of it. Sad.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from mia150 in Honeymoon period!
It's the period right after surgery where the weight just drops off fast and naturally. You cold eat crap and would still lose weight. It's not permanent. You will eventually hit stalls and your weight loss with slow and then stop. When it ends you will have to work to lose the remaining weight.

Proud2BMe reacted to 4MRB4PHOTO in Surgeon said revision's 50/50 failure!?
If you didn't misunderstand what he was saying then, IMHO, the only thing that is 100% is your surgeon is pulling numbers out of his a$$.
Google JAMA articles on WLS studies and articles by leading WLS bariatric centers of excellence, they contradict him regarding his percentages of excess weight loss with the VSG.
Does everyone reach their goal weight per the BMI charts? The answer is no. But people do reach weights they are comfortable in maintaining
Do some people regain part of their excess weight lost? The answer is yes.
The gastric bypass isn't 100% effective, but some studies show it more effective than the VSG in excess weight loss in the short term, but longer term studies show they are just about equal.
Do your research including maybe seeking another surgeon.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from Miss Mac in Regretting the sleeve so much and afraid I will die or have serious problems down the road
If you were going to die you would have most likely died on the operating table. That's when the risk for death is at it's highest. You made it. Relax.
The longer you go out from the day of your surgery the more you will be able to eat.
As far as complications, there's not that many associated with the sleeve. It's by far the safest of the current surgeries. If by chance a complication does develop it normally develops within the first 3 months.
I think you will be fine. Just relax.

Nothing is 100% going to work. You can fail even with gastric bypass. I would ask him to show you the statistics on his so-called 50% failure. If he can't produce any then feel free to ignore his opinion.

lol....rule of thumb. If it went down then you are in the clear.
I never freaked out over accidentally swallowing gum but I was scared to take my huge honking fish pills forever after surgery. I just recently had the courage to take them and I still get nervous with each one.

Going on 4 weeks post op and I have been good to follow all directions thus far. Not advancing my diet yet, still staying off caffeine, etc. I've been a good girl. Really.
But today, I was offered a piece of gum and I nonchalantly accepted without even thinking.
As a matter of fact, it never once crossed my mind until an hour later when I accidentally sucked that bad boy down! Damnit.
So, I'm a little over an hour out and still drinking Water with no problem. I absolutely refuse to contact my surgeon's after hour coverage unless I begin to vomit or feel discomfort.
Just curious...anyone else experienced this little mishap? How did you rid yourself of the gum? Run its course or surgical removal?
(Lesson learned....NO more gum so please no lectures)

Very typical. It's called the three week stall, the average time people experience their first weight loss stall. You need to eat more calories though.

Proud2BMe got a reaction from CallMeTee in Not telling people about your surgery is a "half truth" or a "lie" steams me like a pile of fresh cow dung...
There's "not telling" and then there's actively lying. There is a very thin line between the two. It's very easy to cross that line.
Personally, I have no problems with telling anyone. I don't feel ashamed of myself. To date the only negativity I've encountered post-surgery is from an obese women who thought I made the wrong choice and claimed what I did was not the healthy way. Otherwise, nobody I have told about surgery gave me any problems. Pre-surgery, yes. My family was against it but their objections came from a place of ignorance while I had already did my homework and was educated.
I personally would like people to be honest with fellow obese people when asked. They are the ones who can benefit the most from such.

In my area it would have cost me about 20 grand for self pay. So I went to Tijuana. It was great. I would do it again in a heart beat. I ended up only paying $6,700, which included the sleeve, having my gall bladder removed and 2 first class flights.

Congrats! Good job on meeting your goal within a year. My one year surgiversary is on May 12. Unfortunately, it looks like I won't meet my goal by then but I have lost a ton of weight that I am proud of.

OMG, Do not listen to your NUT! I think she might be nuts for even suggesting that you eat that stuff!
Drinking 3 Protein shakes a day will put you at about 900 calories alone. So if you need to increase your calories just incorporate Protein Shakes for now.
