  1. Water retention is usually not a problem if you are eating like you should be and consuming enough water in a day. For men, the problem is rare. Protein itself is a diuretic. So if you focus on protein you should be good. Women have to struggle with it a lot more than we do.
  2. Some stalls can last a long time. You need to shock your system. First make sure you are eating enough calories. If you have too few calories your body will cling on to fat instead of burning it. Then check to make sure you aren't eating too many carbs. Carbs will sabotage your weight loss. Finally, makes sure you are exercising because there are indeed people here who complain about weight loss stalls who do not do any exercise. Finally you can try to shock your system. One easy way is to eat lots of carbs for a couple of days and then go to no carbs. The sudden shock can break a stall. Keep in mind that you will experience all the withdrawals of going without carbs, such as headache, fatigue, feeling of faint, irritability, etc., until you reach ketosis. If you already consuming carbs then cut out all carbs right now. This works for me.
  3. I drink a Protein shake for breakfast and lunch and then eat a normal dinner and sometimes a snack at night. Otherwise, eggs are a good choice.
  4. I tried several but ultimately settled on Body Fortress from Walmart. The chocolate and vanilla are the best. The chocolate Peanut Butter is okay. The strawberry is kinda blah.
  5. Your tastes will change the further you go out from surgery. You will probably notice that you can eat in the future the stuff you can't tolerate now.
  6. Well, it all depends on how big you are. The larger you are the more weight you should be losing at the start. I was 200 lbs overweight and I lost 100 lbs in less than 6 months, which is on target for the rate I should be losing. If you were very large like me and you are not losing at the rate you should be losing then the doctor may be worried. When you are really big your body needs thousands of calories a day just to maintain that size and move that big honking body around. So when you stop eating like that you will begin to lose weight extremely fast and then it will taper down and slow down to normal weight loss rates.
  7. Nope. You've stretched your skin out and it will never go back to being normal again. The only solution is plastic surgery. I'm suffering the same thing by the way. My friend jokes and says that I should use chip clips on the back of my neck when I take pics. lol
  8. You can also try a volumizing spray like Bed Head's Queen for the Day.
  9. Agree. Have them retest. For the overwhelming majority of pre-diabetics or recently diagnosed diabetics the surgery will clear it up. I was told patients who have been diagnosed within two years have the highest chances of being cured.
  10. Yeah, I've been offered it before but I declined. Please know that it's not cooked and the citrus does nothing to kill parasites. It's entirely raw. Your chances of getting sick from eating it are small but there's still a chance. If you like sushi then you will probably be fine with it.
  11. It's only temporary. Your body will adapt to it. Try eating before going to bed. Right after my surgery I was getting major feelings of faint when I woke up in the morning but they eventually went away. If you are concerned talk to your doctor.
  12. I don't remember how much I lost at 3 months but I know that by 6 months I had already lost over 100 lbs. Keep in mind that a lot of it depends on how big you were to start with. I also did a 2 week pre-op diet and patients who do that will lose far more weight than those who do not do the pre-op diet, just from what I've seen from people here.
  13. I lost 25 lbs during my 2 week pre-op diet. This was without any form of exercise. 1st Week: All the Water, tea and sugar free drinks you wannt All the chicken broth you want All the sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles you want Breakfast and lunch is a Protein shake dinner is lean, unbreaded meat on a bed of greens 2nd Week: The same as week 1 but replace dinner with another Protein Shake.
  14. Honestly, its because insurance is paying for it and they want to know if you are just going to waste money. That's the brutal truth. If you do self pay you don't have to jump through all the hoops.
  15. At first, nothing much. You won't be able to eat much of anything so you will continue to lose weight. However, months after surgery you will find that you can now eat more. That's when problems can develop if you eat too many carbs or junk. I'll be a year out of surgery on the 12th and I still incorporate the shakes. I like them. I found the best one for me is Body Fortress that you can buy at Walmart, chocolate and vanilla. The strawberry ones are gross. They help me keep my Protein requirements.
  16. Okay, so I've made a transformation for sure. Before my surgery I was classified as a "2" on a scale of 1 to 10, with one being the lowest and 10 the highest. I know this because gay guys will tell you the truth. I was fine with that. I didn't mind because I didn't love myself and I didn't want love or attention from anyone else either. However, after my weight loss I've been told numerous times that I'm now an "8". I regularly get hit on by both women and men, and I really don't know how to process it. One time recently when I was hit on by a guy at the club I began to have a mini panic attack. I turned bright red and got super hot and then all of sudden turned ice cold and got really pale. I felt like I was going to pass out. I practically ran out the club, and honestly, I went to my car and started crying. This is the second time I cried over such an incident. The first time I was walking at a park and noticed this trio of younger women following me. They began trying to get my attention so I took out my ear buds and one of them said "nice ass" and they were giggling. One tried to approach me as if she was going to touch me and I turned red and started walking fast to get away from them, tears streaming down my face. I'm a total train wreck. I feel like I'm a fraud like I'm fooling people into thinking that I'm attractive when I'm really not. I definitely don't see what everyone sees when I look in the mirror. I'm actually considering getting therapy over it. I've spent almost all of my life being and feeling like a hideous monster that I don't know how to think or feel differently. Can anyone relate or am I just a horrible freak? In the before picture I'm the blob behind the boy. This was taken 1 year ago in April 2015. I had my surgery one month later on May 12, 2015. The second picture was taken today, May 4, 2016.
  17. As far as I'm aware the studies ended at 5 years and didn't not continue, meaning that it can't be said that there is an issue of major regain after 5 years because the studies ended. You will experience a good 6-8 months of not feeling hungry after the surgery. This is because the hunger hormone ghrelin is drastically decresed. There's no way around loose or extra skin. You stretched it out and now you have to face the consequences. The good news is that the answer is plastic surgery. Good Luck!
  18. As stated here, the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. Almost all obese people have fatty liver disease. The pre-op diet shrinks your liver because the liver stores a form of sugar called glycogen. There is enough of this sugar stored in your liver for your body to live off of for about 3 days. After the glycogen is exhausted you enter a state called ketosis, when your body begins burning Proteins and fats for fuel. Because glycogen needs a large amount of Water, the loss of it results in weight loss and your liver shrinks. During the beginning of ketosis you will experience temporary side effects such as irritability, headache, and feelings of faint. However, your body will adapt to this in about 2-3 days, assuming you do not consume anymore carbs. If you continue to consume carbs you will never get pass that stage. If you ride it out then you will notice you will return back to normal.
  19. I hear you. My job is easy but extremely boring. I constantly daydream about quitting but it's my first job with my own office and I have extreme flexibility with my hours and when taking off. Salary as well. I also want to go back to school this fall so I know I can't quit. Just wish I got paid more. And you may know the secret about working salary jobs is that you always try to work as few hours as possible. So I do my best to take 1-2 hour lunches and then leave a hour early or come in an hour late each day. If the pay was better I would be more excited but it's okay for now.
  20. It's very common for couples to break up or get divorced after one member has the surgery. There are a variety of reasons why, but mostly due to insecurity on the spouse who did not have surgery.
  21. What I hate is when their subjects lines don't match the content of their posts.
  22. Yeah, check the laws on spousal support. In my area you have to be married for a minimum of 10 years and is usually only given for around a year. It's not like it was in the past where women were allowed to collect until they decided to remarry.
  23. As others have stated, you need to speak to a professional. Your feelings are not normal and may indicate an underlying issue that needs to be addressed. Many obese people suffer from depression and after surgery these people no longer have access to the one thing they used to gain comfort, overeating. So their symptoms can worsen. Otherwise, most people seem to be overjoyed about losing weight. I know I was. I love my sleeve and think that it's the best decision I ever did for my health, other than quitting smoking.
  24. You've reached the point where your hunger has returned. After surgery you will have about 6-8 months of not being hungry but then your body adapts. It sucks. So that's why it's so important to try to lose as much as possible during that time frame.
  25. Ignore your NUT, is what I would do. You haven't had the surgery yet and should not have any stipulations on liquids and Proteins at this point. But how could you not get enough liquids on an all liquid diet? Or are you not doing a pre-op diet?
