  1. I had RNY and a significant hernia repair on 4-21-15 so I am almost 7 weeks. I walked my first ever 5k a week ago and survived. I began to feel much more normal right around 6 weeks. I do still tire in the afternoon and a nice little nap would be great, but then again, it is the end of the school year, hot as Haiti here, the kids are wild, and any day would be exhausting. lol

Don't rush yourself. Give yourself time to heal and find your new normal. You are not the same as you were and will feel a bit different, if for no other reason than you are eating so differently.

    Take care!

  2. I told only two people at work...one of them couldn't keep her mouth shut as well as I thought she could :( As far as I know, only four people at work know. Of course, my husband knows and my 3 kids (ages 17-26). I opted to not tell my mother as she has Alzheimer's and she freaks out of I even have a head cold as there is no one else in her life. She feels her security in life is threatened if I am not 100%. I chose to not tell any other family, close or extended. This is very personal to me.

  3. My husband took a weeks vacation to stay home with me. I appreciated, VERY MUCH, having someone there as support, to help get things for me, to go on short walks outside with me, etc. I think it would be nice for you to have him for a couple of days if possible. Remember, you will have had major surgery. Perhaps he can schedule to be off a few days and if you don't need him he could return to work early...

  4. @, I am a bit younger than you, 47, and will be 5 weeks post-op tomorrow. I am struggling much the same as you. I do okay in the mornings, but then about lunch time my energy starts to wane. By the time I walk my students out at the end of the day, 3:00 p.m., I am beat and starting to not feel well and needing a rest. I just keep reminding myself that I had major surgery, am essentially starving my body, and am not as young as I used to be. I am frustrated and truly hoping better times are yet to come. I need the energy to walk in the evenings.

  5. @@MichelleTN, I am a bit disappointed that I am only averaging 5lbs per week, but am thrilled to be losing 5lbs a week at the same time. I feel as though I have gone through and am going through too much to have made this surgery worthwhile at this point. I am 34 days post-op and have not felt well one single day. I wake up each morning hoping to feel well and to feel this major life change was worth it. It isn't today, but maybe tomorrow. Until then, I am at least down 5 lbs a week!

  6. @@drmeow, one major advantage to our surgery vs. Weight Watchers and other diets is that our new stomach is in control...we aren't! Yes, our brains can tell us we would like to scarf down several pieces of pizza or a large hot fudge sundae with all the toppings, but if we try to eat those things the size of our stomach, and the pain, nausea, and dumping syndrome that will commence will quickly remind of that our new lives don't have room for that kind of yummy crap! Our tool has many devious ways to help keep us on track

  7. Freeze a portion. I do it all the time. Sometimes I will then soften it in the microwave for a bit and eat it as a frozen "treat" or I let it defrost all the way and drink it. I have also frozen one serving in the bottom of a bottle and then out another liquid portion on top for taking to work. It keeps the first serving cold, the only way I can drink it. I put the bottle back in the fridge after drinking the first half and the second half will be there for later.

  8. Does the amount you are drinking feel comfortable to you? I totally get how you are feeling...been there, done that, still worry a bit at four weeks out. I think you, like me, just want this to be the tool it was meant to be and we don't want to do anything to mess it up! It sounds like you are doing fine. Let your pouch be your guide. It is uncomfortable...don't repeat whatever got you to feeling that way.

  9. I was out for 4 weeks and have been back to work for a week. I truly wish that I could have had a little bit more time, but I'm doing okay. I am tired by the end of my day and come home and fall asleep for a little while. if you can take longer off without any problemsI would just to give yourself a solid recovery and a good footing in your new lifestyle. It was definitely easier to get my walking in when I was home all day.
