About Me

  • Gender
    Female
  1. Thanks for the tip! I'm in a stall right now stuck at 169 pounds for over two weeks. I am going to try the liquid diet for 3 days and see if it helps me get back on track.
  2. My experience has been that: 1. My taste buds have changed quite a bit. I like salty and sour foods more than before. I used to love chocolate and sweets and I still do but I also like sour food now. I can eat more spicy food than before due to my acid reflux going away (hiatal hernia was fixed at the same time as my sleeve). For example, I used to love french fries pre-op, I can eat one to three fries at the most now. I don't like it and I don't want to eat it anymore. 2. My appetite did truly diminish for the first 6 months. Initially,I could go all day without eating and not feel physically hungry. I feel the hunger returning now but I am not even close to feeling as hungry as I did pre-op. I am referring to physical hunger though, a type of hunger that I was entirely unfamiliar with pre-op. Now, if I feel hungry, I can eat something healthy and it will go away. I used to have very strong cravings pre-op, I still have them occasionally but they go away and I don't feel compelled to fulfill it at all times.

    Surgery was on 1/12/15

I had surgery on the same date as you. I still have some gas pain and I can feel it. But walking really helped me. I also think it's just a question of time, I can constantly hear my stomach rumbling. I hope that goes away!

    Alcohol?

I also plan on not drinking until I hit goal. I am concerned about how the alcohol will affect me so I plan for that first drink to be around my family!

    All done!

Keep going! It does get better. I felt like crap for the first 3 days post the surgery and then on the 4th day, I felt like me again. I still can't drink a lot and I am drinking very slowly but the gas is dissipating and I feel much better now. You will too, just give it time, lots of rest and sleep. Like the other posters have said walk, it does help, even if you feel too tired to do it. It can be a very short walk but you'll feel the difference afterwards. Good luck!
  6. I had a hernia repaired but my actual surgery time was 1.5 hours. I also had a hernia repaired. But I don't remember much, just waking up in recovery afterwards.
  7. I'm looking forward to being able to easily get on and off a horse. I love horse riding but have been embarrassed to do it because of this issue.

    Who has had an EGD?

Hi, I had an EGD, found out that I have hiatal hernia and two ulcers. The ulcers are in the part of the stomach that is going to be cut off so I don't have to do much about it.

    Four More Days...

Good luck! Especially with wrapping up those loose ends.
  10. Thanks for the support, everyone. I have one more day to go to surgery and quite nervous. I liked the Premier shakes, they were quite good.
  11. Thank you all for being so encouraging! You were right, it does get better. I posted at what was my lowest point, day 5 has been the turning point for me. I feel like I have energy again and I can do things. Though, I still need more sleep than usual. But this is a marked improvement over the first couple of days. To everyone on the pre-op diet, stay strong, we'll make it to the surgery! Off to pack my hospital bag now!

    Pre-op liquid diet

I'm on the pre-op diet too. It is hard but I would regret it if I had a complication. Using that as motivation to stick to this diet. The sugar withdrawal is not helping. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 12th too, @midavis1969.
  13. Hi everyone, My surgery date is the 12th of January and I'm on the pre-op diet (broth, Protein drinks and jello) now. I'm struggling with it quite a bit though I have stuck to it so far and have not cheated. I'm feeling very hungry, tired and lethargic. I'm afraid that I will continue to feel this way after surgery and I'm very worried. Right now, I'm lucky because I have vacation days and I have taken time off but after recovery, I will have to go back to work and if I feel the way I am feeling now, after the surgery, I don't know what the quality of my work/life will be! Those of you who have already had the sleeve, does it get better after surgery? Or am I deluding myself?
