  2. Married 28 years and my husband has been great. We just keep the communication lines open and he is very respectful of the food choices I need to succeed and I am not critical of his choices and he enjoys his treats. The best thing is how much both of us are enjoying each other, my weight was unknowingly hurting our marriage since I was unhappy about myself and felt so unhealthy.
  3. So I had surgery 5 mos ago, my cholesterol was moderately elevated and I was on Lipitor. After surgery my cholesterol was very low, I got off Lipitor. Now I just had blood work and my cholesterol is high and my dr wants me back on meds. My dr also wants me to eat more fish and chicken and cut way back on cheese, red meat, lunchmeat and high fat foods. I don't eat a lot of those things anyway but I am going to increase my veggies and fruits and probably add a protein shake back in to meet my daily goals. I work out with a trainer 3/x a week and walk/run 2 other days. Just taken a bit by surprise today. I am down 78 pds since Dec 3.

  5. When I had a colon resection three years ago I fired my hospital doctor. He never responded to the nurses page and they could not administer nausea medicine for over 4 hours until finally one of the nurses called my surgeon at home. My mother was chronically ill, had a kidney transplant at age 70 and she always told me if you aren't getting proper care or treated respectfully ask to speak to the hospital administrator and tell them that you or your daughter is the patient and you will not tolerate disrespect and that you want another dr assigned. They get a lot of $$$ when a patient is hospitalized and you have every right to be treated respectfully.
  6. I only come on here once a week but let me answer your question. I came up with my goal range of 170-180 with my surgeon based on many factors but mainly my muscle mass, body type, exercise style and my comfort level. My Dr thinks BMI is great for getting to surgery but doesn't take into account enough factors especially muscle mass. I would like to get a Dexa scan which tells you how much fat, muscle, bone you have do you know a more accurate body fat percentage. I am sorry others didn't answer
  7. Why not just plan a healthy evening snack? Make a process of it so you can retrain your head and being prepared will stop you from grazing.
  8. I don't know if this will help but I was also really sick with nausea, not as long as your daughter but still sick. At one point they gave me everything they could so the nurse had me smell an alcohol wipe and it really helped. Once at home I kept a bottle of rubbing alcohol right by me the first few weeks and would smell it when a wave of nausea hit. It really helped me. I hope your daughter feels better soon
  9. I weigh myself twice a month, I started weighing each day and of course that slows down. I decided that I needed to focus on my journey not a number, it has been great for me! I think that everyone has to find what works for them

After I got to real foods I was able to eat a whole foods diet; lean protiens, veggies, fruits, healthy fats, beans, lentils etc. I eat mostly organic, I have basically no cravings and I get enough protein from foods. I also limited the sugar free, artificial sweeteners, stevia, truvia etc give me headaches, if I needed a sweetener I just used a little organic honey or maple syrup

    Is my NUT nuts?

    I think the 4 oz rule is a good rule to help us not to overeat at each meal. But for me a clean eating, whole foods approach has worked really well. I eat lean Proteins, veggies, fruits, healthy fats and limited whole grains. I eat very few sugar free products, just a little Protein shake in my coffee each morning. I have almost no cravings and have enough energy to workout. I eat berries of all kinds and apples with the skin on. I am 3 months post up and down 60 pds. My Dr, PCP and Nut are thrilled with my food journal because it is a well balanced. My calories are between 850-1100 depending on the day and I also vary my carbs so some days are less and some more, mostly just because some days fruit sounds more appealing and other days veggies or protein does. It is the first time in 30 years I feel food is not controlling me. I do take a multivitamin, fish oil, Probiotics, Vitamin d, Calcium citrate and sublingual b12 Good luck on your journey!

    Comfort please!

    A helpful tip I learned in the hospital, the smell of rubbing alcohol helps nausea. Keep a bottle near where you are sitting and if a wave of nausea hits you just take a whiff. Odd but it truly helped me when the nausea meds didn't get rid of it. Also the pain meds can really cause nausea
  13. Two years before my sleeve surgery I had 3 hospitalizations for diverticulitis and I had a colon resection Sept 2012. It is no laughing matter and I am hope you are feeling better! If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

  15. I worked with a therapist pre and post op who specialized in food issues and addiction. It really helped me focus on my own journey and also helped me break destructive patterns. There is no one size fits all way on how weight loss surgery will work best. For some moderation works, for some eliminating certain foods or food groups works, some people do better with hard core exercising, some of better with just walking each day and on and on, so for me working with a therapist about my specific issues helped me forge the healthiest path for me.
