  1. I am 35 years old and I currently have a BMI of 34. I have been every BMI number from my highest BMI of 40 to my lowest BMI of 25 (with the help of prescription meds, diet, and lots of EXERCISE). I have been on this diet roller coster for 20 + years and I am done with it! I am done with the feelings of guilt for eating a peice of MY birthday cake, I am tired of working my butt off to lose just a little bit of weight and low and behold gain it back and then some! i am totally done with my cholesterol being 280!!!!!!!!!!! I am tired of being on dangerous diets, starving myself, running till my knees are completely sore and the plantar faciatis flares up, taking amphetamine prescription meds that are surly not doing my body good, all to gain it all back! Why wait till my BMI is back up to 40 or more and all the comorbidities that go with it? Why wait till you have stretched all your skin out and have to have MORE surgery to remove it? Why abuse your body until that magical day when you are totally unhealthy and can NOW have the surgery because NOW everyone is ok with it? Why not take care of business now and get on with living life? So as of Jan 13,2015, GAME OVER! This girl is getting off the roller coaster and getting on with life! I cannot wait for this new way of eating and living! See this is a change for the rest of our lives not till this diet ends or till I get to goal! It's FOREVER and I can't wait!! I pray and hope that you all have the best success and I applaude you all for being advocates of YOUR own health!

OMG! You've totally nailed it! THIS is exactly how I feel.

  2. Try this site: http://bareblends.com.au/

This the nutritional info from their vanilla bean Protein powder.

It's an aussie company all organic, no fillers or crap. It's also not overly sweet. (you can always add stevia or sweetener if you want) If it's a little plain for you, you can always jazz it up with a shot of coffee or a handful of frozen berries. With vanilla the possibilities are endless.

  3. I have seen a ton of requests for a Facebook group for December sleevers, so I created one. The name of the group is:

    BP December Sleevers & Mentors

The group is a closed group, and will only be for those of us on BP that are being sleeved in December. Also if you have a mentor you are welcome to invite them as well.

You can find the group very easily by just searching by the group name, so please come and join!

Let me know if you have any problems.

    Michelle

I can't find it using search

  4. oh wow , yes I have to wait 2 months for my first appointment , it's the 8th dec , can't wAit .

I'm not even sure I'm a candidate for surgery as my start weight is 101kg .

What's the pre op clinic for ??

You should qualify. I'm 85KG and 167cm tall. The pre op clinic is at the hospital (Allamanda on the Gold Coast) and is just a quick check up and they give you all the info you need for your hospital stay.

  5. I'm in Brisbane too! I had to wait two weeks for an appointment with my surgeon. Saw him on November 5th. He didn't need a psych eval at all but did want a gastroscopy. He scheduled my surgery for December 2nd. I had bloods done straight after the appointment and booked the gastroscopy. Went to see the dietitian the next day and got my shakes for the 10 day pre op diet. I have the gastrscopy on Thursday (13th of November) and start my pre op diet on the 22nd. Lastly I have the pre op clinic on the 26th of November at the hospital. As you can see, it can all happen pretty fast!!! Good Luck :D

  6. I am a fast eater. It was hard for me to understand how my post-surgery tummy would feel and fill up with food. So, if you think of your post-surgery tummy being tube-shaped (like a funnel spout or narrow pipe), then imagine trying to get large chunks of food down that narrow tube vs. well-chewed food. For me, that is exactly how it feels. You can also imagine how very dry food vs very wet food would go down that narrow pipe.

If I don't chew well, the tummy will fill up sort of awkardly and faster than if I chewed. Without chewing it's also much easier to eat too much and end up with the slimes, which I still do about once a week. Overeating doesn't feel like choking or feel painful, it just feels like my stomach is full (which it is) and pushing up into my throat a bit...like I can't quite make it go back down. It's not horrible or painful, but unpleasant.

If your surgeon requires you to start off post-op with liquids and then transition to mushies and then transition again to solids, you'll see the difference very quickly.

Wow, thanks for this! You've explained it so well!

So, having the slimes is caused by overeating? I thought it was caused by a chunk of food being stuck but you can chew really well and still get them if you over eat apparently.

    You've really helped me understand.

    :)

  7. I'm scheduled for December 2nd too!!!

I've got a pre op shake diet starting on 22nd of November with veg and salad allowed.

I've been researching Protein powders and Vitamin powders to use during the first month or so.

I thought green powder added to your daily Water intake would help stop Vitamin deficiency during the time we are pretty much just focused on Protein alone.

  8. I have a bmi of 30 and I cannot wait to get this done. Do I do sleeve or band? 4 kids and bad habits have put an extra 60lbs on my 5.5" frame. I am 181 and would love to see the 130"s again.

I know band is less invasive but it seems like so many people regret going that route?

My BMI is 32 and my surgery is scheduled for December 2nd. Here in Australia the cutoff is 30 with co-morbiditities for a few surgeons.

When I saw the dietitian to get my pre and post op eating info the first thing she said was "Can I ask......was your doctor reluctant at all?"

    The answer is "no".

I am on the very edge of qualifying for this surgery, I'm aware of this.

My family are beyond supportive because they "know" me and are aware this is VERY heavy for me. I am 10KG (22 pounds) heavier than I was at 9 months pregnant. I have a very small frame.....you just can't tell this with all the fat (44% by my scale) I'm carrying around. I also have a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure.

My mother had lap band surgery ten years ago and says it's the best thing she ever did for herself. She is so very excited for me.

I've decided to tell everyone, other than family, that I'm having surgery to have my gall bladder removed. I actually had it removed 8 years ago but no one remembers that.

  9. Very excited tenzinblue!

I saw my surgeon for the first time on Wednesday the 6th of November. The surgeon gave me my date that day and then sent me straight to have blood tests done and to book a gastroscopy (to check for hiatus hernia).

The next day I saw the dietitian for pre and post op diet.

Thursday the 13th of November I have the gastroscopy.

Saturday the 22nd I start on the Optifast shake diet and then the countdown to surgery begins!!!!!!!

It's all go that's for sure.

Yes, we will definitely keep in touch....x :D
