Elisha1015 got a reaction from Gingerisgreat in Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve
I was 245 and asked the same question about being "heavy enough" for the gastric bypass. Ultimately, I chose this surgery because it has a higher success rate for getting rid of diabetes and PCOS, which I had. I can proudly say I no longer have diabetes nor PCOS and feel so much healthier. I did have some complications which are not common and I am still dealing with them, but I would do it again.

Absolutely I feel like there is something coating my throat. I have brushed my teeth 3 times today! How long had it been going on for you? For me, about 2 weeks.

    Hi Time4ChangeNYm
Hi Time4ChangeNY! I too am on the liquid (day 5 for me). I am still hungry also and just try to focus on one day at a time. I am currently drinking a Protein shake, or having hot tea, or sipping soup/broth, every 3 hours to try and manage. So far I am down 8 pounds. Yesterday was rough though as I went to the grocery story and almost caved when I smelled the fried chicken in the deli. I keep reaffirming the positives and saying my strength prayers. I know we will get through this and it will be all for the better!

I'm about 6 weeks out from surgery. I have gone through what I refer to as the liquid weakness. I moved on to soft and learned that bread is the devil and causes me severe pain. I learned what the slimes are (but thankfully have not vomited). And luckily everyone around me survived my first stall (I was a little crazy).
I feel like I'm finding my groove now. I now know when to stop eating so I don't get overly full which is a horrible feeling after surgery. I feel good enough to get some intensity in my workouts. I am making good choices (before surgery I really never believed I would give up Pasta ever) and the foods that used to have a hold on me no longer seem as important. And this way of eating is starting to feel more normal and comfortable.
I'm feeling pretty good right now. So for all of you going through anything I mentioned above, keep in mind that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

    Elisha1015 reacted to Whey2lovely in I don't weigh 345.8lbs Anymore! Woot! Woot!
I started my weight loss journey 2/2014. I weighed in at 345.8lbs my body weight index was right at cut-off point for the doctor to deny me for the surgery. But he had faith in me that I would lose the excess weight, and I did! I had my surgery 9/29/2014! I weighed in @ 325.6lbs and as of 10/25/2014 1 currently weigh 294.6...Because I was so use to over eating this process has been a lot of trial and error. I am still trying to learn how to chew food that long. I get stuffed so quickly that sometimes I feel like eating, is not worth the hassle. I have come to love and appreciate applesauce though. Most foods simply don't stay down and the foods that manages to pass threw come back because my stomach rejects it. liquids stay down very well. So I may just stick with liquids and applesauce. I have noticed that when I don't chew well, I feel like crap...meaning I feel full, stuck, sluggish, constipated... That is why I prefer the liquid sand applesauce. I trying hard to consistently take the Vitamins but like I said this period is a lot of trial and error. My taste buds have truly changed for a lot of my favorite foods. I have never had so many Popsicles before either. I also Google and You-Tube everything. As for the Protein shakes... It is trial and error too. But I am getting better. I haven't started losing any hair but I would shave my entire head to be healthier. So this is my introduction and my story!

    Hi to Everyone!
I'm one week post-op today, and came across these forums as I while away my recovery time at home. All in all, I think I'm doing pretty well- off of pain meds and out walking 2 miles a day since 3 days post-op. I have to keep reminding myself that I didn't get this heavy in a week...I'm certainly not going to lose it in a week! I've got my first post-op visit with my surgeon on Monday & am hoping like crazy that I can be moved forward to delicious pureed food. I'm pretty sure at this point if I cut myself I'd bleed chicken broth ;p
I'm surprised at how well I'm not allowing the enormous bags of Halloween candy's incessant calls to me get under my skin, but I wont' lie- the smell of all the great food I still cook for my family (while I grapple with what kind of broth I want to indulge in each night) and the scent of some of my candles (hence the post title) really makes me miss the old life of "Want it? Eat it!" However, I'm stronger than that. And I'm sure there are others out there just like me. If anyone's interested in chatting, give me a holler, especially those who are contemplating RNY surgery and/or are at the same stage I am. Disclaimer: If you have a sensitivity or disapproval of an irreverent sense of humor, I might not be the best "pal" for you- I LOVE to laugh and find humor in just about everything! Good luck to all!
