Cathyjo got a reaction from robga999 in Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
My surgeon said the average weight loss with a sleeve is 1 to 2 pounds per week.
I lost 103 pounds in 9 months which is 93% of my excess weight.
If I can do it, anybody can.
No tricks. I just followed my eating plan. A lot of Protein, low carbs and the elimination of all white carbs, bread, Pasta, rice, noodles, etc.
I just stuck with it and the weight came off.

    I am 10 months out.
    I get 60 to 80 Protein and 64 oz liquid.< /p>
I keep my carbs low but not super low.
I get my carbs from fruit and dairy, not white carbs. White carbs have little nutritional value and take up too much room in my sleeve.
    I take 2 Multivitamin daily, a sublingual B12 and 2 calcium citrate with D.
The sublingual or chewable b12 is critical for sleevers because so much of the stomach has been removed. Cells in the stomach make something called intrinsic factor which is required to absorb B 12 in the stomach. Because sleevers don't make enough intrinsic factor, the B12 has to be under the tongue or chewable. GNC makes a strawberry chewable B12 which is very tasty. My NUT says at one year I will go down to one multi a day.

I would stop counting calories. We all failed on diets that counted calories.
Count Protein, carbs and fluids. Those are the big 3 of success .

    Sometimes the truth hurts.
    The old days are gone.
This is a whole new ball game.
    Do your best each day.
    Celebrate each day.
    Celebrate your accomplishments.
All of us are courageous for having this surgery.
I celebrate each and every day that I am alive and healthy.
Think about where you were before surgery.
    Obese, miserable, etc.,
    Move it forward, not back.

Don't know whether to laugh or b***h-slap some of you.
Do you actually expect that your post-op experience 3 weeks post-op, 6 weeks post-op, 10 weeks post-op ... etc. is what your life is going to be like forever?
Have you not noticed how much your experience has already changed from when you were more newly operated on?
Why wouldn't you expect your enjoyment of food to change? For those of you who think you'll always hate food, go find some threads about how people 2 years out are struggling to lose the 10-20 pounds they just gained because they're enjoying food too much.
My major point is this: Every stage of this journey is different than the ones before or after it. My "job" during this journey is to learn what I can from the stage I'm in, maximize the benefits of that stage, and minimize the threats of that stage.
And yes, of course, we all like to rant sometimes. But jeez ... if temporarily missing the joy of food is really so terrible, then go buy some Ben & Jerry's and slurp that down.
Sorry, but this rant comes to you from a 68-year-old who wishes she'd had the opportunity to change her life 30 years ago with VSG surgery like some of you guys now have a chance to do.

6 pounds lost is better than 6 pounds gained. Try and give the weight loss a new spin. Celebrate your accomplishments. Celebrate your courageous decision to get healthier.

I'm not sure if you are complaining...haha! I take the feeling as a blessings and good "problem". It's part of making your body relearn what is acceptable. Once you get your head in that game you will be well on your way to the new lifestyle we all signed up for.

It gets better. I've learned that I'm way more comfortable if I consciously "under-eat my sleeve" at meals even after 13 months. It means I eat more frequently and that often my Snacks have more calories than my meals. My fav Protein Bar is 210 calories and I never get that for Breakfast with my 1 egg and sometimes not for lunch either. I figure its better for me that over eating and feels a heck of a lot better! It was several months before I learned to enjoy food after surgery, but now things are great! I get to eat what I like prepared how I like it, I just don't get very much so I like to make it count!
