Had a lost moment where 6 pies got a little too much tasting .
Went and worked out today... determined to not let a small stumble be a large fall.... into a vat of pumpkin and whipped cream. Yikes

Good for you. I actually don't think twice about going nuts on a day like Thanksgiving. Yesterday, besides turkey I had mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, yams, caramel apple pie, blueberry cheesecake AND pumpkin pie with whipped cream. All small portions of course, but more carbs than I usually have in a whole week. But I've learned through the years that one day is not going to derail my weightloss no matter how "bad" I am. As long as it's an exception, not a rule, I don't worry about it.
Hope you enjoyed the six pies....don't feel bad about it and you are right back on track. That's what matters. BTW, what kind were they?

    Home made pecan pie.
I had a piece yesterday, but my husband needs to hurry up and eat the rest before I do.

I like Scott (Dilbert) Adams take on the elections, which were spot on and surprising to me...http://blog.dilbert.com/post/152955248046/i-answer-your-questions-about-predicting-president
Then I ran across a very interesting book on Trump's win: https://www.amazon.com/MAGA-Mindset-Making-America-Great-ebook/dp/B01M8K6BG8/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1478813437&sr=1-1&keywords=maga+mindset
He gives credit to Trump for taping into four key engines:
    1. Appeal to Nationalism
    2. Rejection of White guilt
    3. Unapologetically masculine
    4. Rejection of the Politically Correct culture
In short, Trump ain't a conservative, but he sure tapped into some core values.
But, Trump will be forever demonized in the press:

Like him or not, he is the President elect of the USA. He will be sworn in as POTUS on January 20th.
We need to rally behind him ans support him and his cabinet for the best interest of our great Nation.
If we do not agree with what he, his cabinet or Congress present as executve orders, rules or laws, or pass as such, then we, as Americans need to speak out in a civilized way and let our voices be known.

God bless you for what you are doing for your mother. She is probably recovering well due to your interest and care! Many of us women have been in that caregiver position, and while it's difficult at the time, you will never regret the days you had/have caring for her.

I believe in the golden seven months to a year of surgery is your best weight loss. I hope patients take full advantage of that time. I hope they fight for what they want from surgery.
I liked the article. I think others can benefit from it.

All those reasons above is why I believe so few of us are left posting years later.
Yes, they could have just moved on and still be successful, but I give kudos to this board, and checking in, to keep ME going year after year.
I want to believe the seasoned vets are out there working their program....
I just wish they would visit.

Completely agree. There are some post-wls people who can successfully maintain a normal weight using the "eat everything you want in moderation" or "make good choices 80% of the time" approaches, but I think most of us have to be much more vigilant than that.
I think a lot of people want to imagine that they are one of the lucky "I can eat whatever I want and maintain a normal BMI" few, but when confronted with evidence to the contrary (the scale going up, clothes getting tighter) they refuse to believe it.
My surgeon likes to say that if you are over 30 years old, living in Western society, and have a normal body weight, odds are very good you have to work at it. Whether or not you have ever been obese or had surgery, you still have to work at it.
I know this is true for me. Maintaining a slim, healthy body means I have to work hard, both in being vigilant with what and how much I eat and in exercising, and I don't get "treats" or "cheats" or "oopsie" slip ups if I want to stay out of plus sizes. It sucks but not as much as having to buy two airplane seats and ask for a seat belt extender sucks, and not as much as an assuredly early grave would suck.

    Great article. Great find!
What people don't understand as they gleefully exclaim in these threads "I'm 6 months out and I eat or drink XX all the time and I'm still losing weight!" is that their bodies are on auto pilot for the first 6 months to a year. The sheer lack of calories results in weight loss, and you could be eating mini chocolate donuts for Breakfast every day and still lose some weight because your overall caloric intake has decreased drastically.
Then our metabolism catches up to us.
That's why it's so important to cement healthy habits while that glorious honeymoon period is still in full swing where the restriction is great and the hunger is low. Once we get to our goal and are comfortably in maintenence, it's really human nature to want to push things. Dip our foot in the pool so to speak. Having that ONE cookie turns into 2 or 3. That ONE alcoholic beverage every week turns into every day. That one rare fast food hamburger you have on the run because you were ill prepared turns into 2 times a week.
Some can moderate to those things. Most can't (otherwise we wouldn't have needed surgery, right?). We have to learn what each of our individual limits are and go from there, because the further out we get from surgery, the more the weight wants to creep back up on us, even when we're towing the line pretty well.
It's a cold, hard truth that most don't understand.

So many people just really really dont friggin get it at all. They dont realize the short period of time they have to get their behaviors in order.
They dont get that this is not about a short term diet, it is about a whole new way to live your life.
Just today someone posted about getting home from the hospital, craving chocolate so they ate it. One day out......never mind you could cause serious harm but if that person doesnt understand "the article" they will never take the time to learn what actually needs to change for their long term benefit.
Maintenance in my opinion is sooooooo much harder than the weight loss phase.
    1. The incentive of getting on the scale and watching the numbers go down is no longer there, now you just hope they dont go up
    2. You have to find your sweet spot when it comes to your nutrition so you are not losing and not gaining....not easy!
    3. Once you do screw up and go off plan for a few days it really is hard to get back on the right path. To me it sometimes feels harder than when i did it the first time.
I used to live to eat, now, I eat to live. Dont get me wrong i really still enjoy food and wine. We just have to learn how to live normally and indulge once in a while. And even then our indulging has changed. I know what I call indulging is not what it was when i weighed 310lbs.
Indulging to me is having a glass or two of wine with dinner.....a rule i normally never break. Or having a piece of dark chocolate once in a while.

We have all these newbies coming in with questions/statements that make me wonder if they ever sat down with a NUT, their surgeon or if they were given any type of pre-op training.

Is it OK to eat pizza/tacos/fried chicken? Is ice cream soft? How about milk shakes? I ate swedish fish/noodles/rice a few days post op. I am eating french fries and chicken nuggets, but it's ok because I'm ok so everyone else will be too. I want it so I ate it and I am going to get mad an anyone and everyone who tells me it wasn't a good idea.

Anyone who disagrees is mean, rude, sarcastic, judgmental, non supportive, a bully, horrible, rotten, a monster. I get that this backlash is a defense mechanism because they know deep down that they are wrong but it still sucks to watch this downward spiral that is happening here.

It's not great advice to chew and spit. It's not great advice to move along with your food stages because (you think) your body is telling you that it's OK. (Your body does NOT know best or you wouldn't be in this spot in the first place.)
Vets should leave because all the above advice and pandering and coddling is MUCH better than real, honest, truthful, experienced answers.

It's a freaking $h!tstorm out there the last few weeks. Seriously.

I also like Vitamin Water Zero, lemonade flavor. I use Mio ( not the ones with caffeine) drops occasionally, Crystal Light, flavored waters, black tea and occasionally Chai latte in the Keurig. I will drink plain Water but it is unappealing. Aside from Hot drinks like tea, all my liquids seem to be most palatable to me at room temp., weird huh?

I'm pretty new to the online forum world, but I'm coming out of 5+ years of fairly regular support group attendance. I can't begin to express my astonishment at the ignorance, non compliance and stubborn attitudes of so many newbies on here. A surprising number of them choose to disregard advice from a successful veteran because someone 1 month out is enabling their bad behavior. I'm starting to understand why the success rate for WLS is not higher. So many people are clearly not taking it seriously and don't seem to appreciate the kind of commitment postop life requires. Kudos to those of you who do....you will do well.
But I will just keep trying to help....no matter how many newbies I piss off with my "tough love". Just ask my kids

Boy have I learned a lot on this forum. Since I don't attend a support group ( too inconvenient location) this is the place where I go to stay on task. Where would I be if people didn't post honest/ whether you like it or not opinions and facts here? I always knew when reading things from you, Babs, VSGAnn, Kindle, Elode and so many others that I could trust the information contained in the post. I am so disappointed when people who are willing to give good advice whether pleasant or not are pilloried by those who only want to hear what they want to hear.
