  1. 12 days post op...still full of regret. I can not wait until I feel like myself again. I have never been so negative about something in my life. The only reason I can come up with is my food addiction.

Everyone recovers differently, I had lap band and recovered quickly . I didn't have gastric bypass like you did, maybe the recovery time is longer ? Anyone have any advice ? I was banded mid Dec 2011, made it through the holidays just fine. We're all "food addicted", otherwise we wouldn't be here. You CAN do this , just give it time , Good luck !

I'm almost 5 weeks out and I still don't feel good. Don't mean to discourage you but just know you are not alone!

Thank you for responding. I had my two week check up today and was relieved when my nurse practitioner said everything that I was experiencing was normal.

  2. Everyone has a different post op diet. Why is that?

Different Doctors have different styles and philosophies and since this is still relatively new surgery doctors set up their own protocals. Even the pre and post op experiences vary. I didn't have a catheter, some did. I didn't have a leak test, many did. I had a prophylactic IVC filter put in, many didn't. My doctor routinely keep patient 2 days minimum, others send pts home after a day. Thisis why it's important to do your homework and ask questions when choosing a surgeon and program. Find one that suit your needs the best.

What Blerdgirl said. Everyone in my program follows the same program pre and post op, but people who went to my hospital have a completely different program than the people at the hospital two miles away. I had no liquid pre-op diet at all. And was on purees as soon as I got home from the hospital. Each program is developed by the surgeons and clinicians who are working in it. And they tweak it for what best works for them.

  3. is it normal to feel like my stomach is being crushed 3 days after surgery?

Crushed? I hope that's not the case. I would say it's normal to feel something of course. Muscle mending and tissue healing can certainly be a little uncomfortable at times....I recall it felt like a dull ache....sometimes not so dull. Rest and take your pain meds if you have them.

  4. First day home from hospital. I can not figure out how I'm supposed to get 3 protein shakes, water, broth. jello down. I'm lucky if I get water down. :-(

I have yet to have anything other than crystal light and water. My surgery was 11/13. Day 1-3 my instructions were to hydrate only. Tomorrow I'm supposed to progress to 4 shakes. I can't imagine it but I'm sure my body needs something other than water and crystal light so I'll do my best.

you can do it Corinthians. You have the strength to take you this far, I know you can find it within yourself to keep going!

Those are 'goals' to work towards. Your medical team knows it's not possible early on, but you must work toward those goals. Keep those drinks next to you all day...aim for a sip/swallow every 5-10mins. It works if you work it.

      Blessings.

  5. Surgery tomorrow, nervous and excited. I haven't eaten in 3 days and I'm wondering if my craving for a huge messy cheeseburger loaded to the max will go away. I might settle for a cracker right now.
