  1. I had this problem with 4 of my incisions and had to clip them before the would heal. I still have one that continues to scab up in the corner where the stitch rejected. When I talked to the nurse she said it would just take time. My surgery was on 9/29.
  2. God Bless You. Please keep us posted on your journey.
  3. The purse is gorgeous and well worth the work you put into it!
  4. Hi there! I am in Shakopee, MN. I had RNY on Sept. 29th, 2014. I just found this little Minnesota group and thought I would reach out.
  5. Hi there! It is ironic for me it was a diagnosis of stage 3 kidney disease that pushed me to make my decision. I too am a type 2 diabetic however mine was very controlled. My kidney disease was actually caused from medications used to treat my migraines and psoriatic arthritis. A combination of too much cyclosporine (I had severe psoriasis that put me in the hospital). Anyway, years of taking these meds wacked my kidneys to the point that I have full blown CKD stage 3. It was my Nephrologist who suggested WLS. I am grateful every second of every day that he did! I started the process last December and had my surgery on Sept. 29th. I am off all Diabetes meds, high cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds. My kidney function has improved within a month of surgery. Most importantly I feel fantastic! I walk faster and better. I have lost 4 sizes in clothing! Best decision I ever made. I know that having surgery can be scary but in the case of getting healthy vs. continuing on a unhealthy path, for me it was a no brainier. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision!
  6. Hi there! Just based on what you have said so far I think you are taking the right steps to better health. If you wait too long too long to start a new life, you will miss out at many more years of feeling better. I can only speak from my personal experience. I am 51, I have hypothyroid, type 2 diabetes, stage 3 kidney disease and psoriatic arthritis. I have also suffered from very severe migraines my whole life. I weighed 310lbs and I am 5 ft 10. I have had 5 back surgeries and have a neurostimulator implanted in my spine to deal with nerve pain. I began this process when I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease and my doctor told me if I did not do something I would be looking at dialysis and ultimately a transplant in my older years. I began the WLS process within 2 weeks of getting that diagnosis. It took 9 months to get through it. I had my surgery on sept. 29th, 2014. I am down 59lbs and 4 sizes. I CAN work out as much as Want. I am off all diabetes meds, high cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds, pain meds (been off those for 2 years), and my migraines have improved greatly! I feel fantastic. This was the best thing I could have ever done for myself and there has not been one single day that I have regretted it. I feel healthier. I still have 87 lbs to go and many more years to maintain it but I was given a great gift! If I were you, I would do my research. Don't be afraid! Good luck and keep us posted!
  7. Hi there, At the end of the day you have to make the final decision on this. I would encourage you to continue to do your homework. It is likely your surgeon is pushing you in that direction because of your previous food behaviors. RNY is a bit more restrictive when it comes to pastries, sugar and the like. I would say in my short time as a bypass patient, your taste for those things do change and that is a wonderful tool to have in your toolbox. I am hoping that lasts forever for me. But as others said, in the end it is up to each one of us to change our behaviors to make any of these surgeries work. My original plan was to have the sleeve, after learning about the pros of RNY I ended up going that route and I have not regretted for even one second so far. Good luck to you!
  8. By the way, you can get premier protein shakes at SAMs or Costco.
  9. I had to do a lot of traveling within the first 30 days of my RNY. I did not use a blender but found that premade shakes actually work best for me. I would either pack them in my suitcase and check it at the airport or but them when I got to wherever I was going. I use premier Protein shakes which have 30 grams of protein and are low in carbs. chocolate tastes the best. I ended up having a lot of trouble with all the powders that you mix, they taste terrible and sat heavy. The only thing I needed to do for travel was make sure I had a fridge in my room to keep them cold. If you do choose to go with a powder, you can get those blender cups which have the silver mixer balls inside. They work fantastic. You can get them at GNC. Good luck!
  10. New balance has my vote. Funny thing is, I have now changed from wide to medium! All my darn shoes are sloppy on my feet. It is pretty funny but also expensive.
  11. For me it was pie. I did not make it often because if I did I could keep eating it until the darn thing was gone. I just love pie. Now, I could really care less about sweets at all.
  12. Yeah for you! You deserve it. By the way, hand bags are my thing! I love the idea of your chocolate free purse. Hopefully you will carry that one all the time as a reminder that you really don't need that crappy old chocolate anyway! Good luck!
  13. Congratulations on hitting such a fantastic milestone! I cannot wait until I get to that point.mi am so excited for you! Keep on going!
  14. You go girl! Congratulations and keep on going!
  15. You can do this! Have you thought about leveraging the liquid Protein diet now? I lost over 10 lbs just doing that in 10 days and it shrinks your liver in preparation for surgery. If you started that process now and I promise it is not that bad, you would meet your goals easily! I know if you want this bad enough you can lose what you need to in order to get approved. Keep your eye on the prize. It will change your life very quickly and it is well worth the effort. You need to look in the mirror and tell yourself you can do this! Good luck!
  16. Congratulations and good luck on your surgery Monday! Hope all goes well and your on your way to your new lifestyle!
  17. I agree! I am 9 weeks post op with RNY and I really think it is all about trying what works for you in the moment. Foods that did not work 3 weeks ago are now working just fine. There are some foods that I am thrilled that I don't care about, mainly sweets. Yeah for me as that was my biggest problem before surgery. My grouch pouch is however loving chicken, and fish and ground beef. This week I get to even introduce raw vegetables and I am very excited about that as I am craving some salad. I know however that I need to take it slow and if something does not work, wait a week or so and try again. I take every day as a new adventure and try not to push my pouch too far as I don't want to experience any dumping. I have been lucky so far! Good luck and just take it one day at a time.
  18. I have to say I was very worried about you for about the first paragraph. Then I was cracking up! Thanks for the good laugh!
  19. Honestly my first week was not bad at all. I was a little sore but I have had several major surgeries and I knew what to expect and have a high tolerance for pain. I just found myself slowly sipping a lot of fluids for the first week. That is the most important thing besides getting up and walking. Most of your pain comes from they gas the pump into you expand your stomach. If you use GAS X, which I am sure they will recommend, that will make you more comfortable. I also used hot packs and when I got home a heating pad. But really they best thing is walk, walk, walk and lots of fluids. Stay hydrated! The time goes fast and so do the results! Good luck and keep us posted!
  20. It is the first thing I noticed as well. Although very mild at this point. I also noticed my glasses are so big they keep sliding down my head! It has actually become funny. I knew my head was larger than normal but I guess I really was a fat head!! LOL!
  21. I also am 8 weeks post op and although I got my medicines down to only a couple I am able to either swallow them whole or break them in half now. Probably the largest size however would be the size of an extra strength Tylenol capsol. You just have to take your time in between. Good luck.
  22. I have not heard anything about bruising. I would certainly have her check with her doctor. 20 oz. is not nearly enough fluids, I made that same mistake. Fluids must be your number 1 priority or you will feel the pain from it. I made that mistake a couple of times early on. The dizziness and feeling of weakness is just not worth it. Good luck!
  23. Just wondering if you also suffer from Gerd or reflux as well as diabetes. The reason I ask is both surgeries will help with getting your diabetes into remission. Gastric bypass will cure reflux or Gerd whereas the sleeve can actually make that worse. I was all set to move forward with the sleeve and learned about the reflux issue. I suffered my whole adult life with that. It was an easy decision for me and I have to say it has solved both my diabetes and reflux. Woo Hoo! Make sure you learn as much as you can about your health issues and choose the surgery that is right for you. Good luck and keep us posted!
  24. I want to shop for clothes in a normal store again and not have to buy anything with an X on it! 3x, 2x, 1x!
