  1. Yes, all the time! I hear about people who either had horrendous complications or lost all their weight and then gained it all right back. I think some people are afraid of what they really know nothing about. I have found the best way to shut them up is to help them understand that I went into the with a great deal of reseach before moving forward. I understand the risks and the benefits to me outweigh those risks. I am one of those people who have no problem telling people that I have had WLS. I also let them know that I am no longer a diabetic, don't have high cholesterol, high blood pressure and my kidney disease has improved. Usually when they start hearing about what it can do to help someone with real medical issues or someone who is obese who has these issues to look forward to, they then back off. Many times it really does come out of fear for your safety. There are those that are simply malicious and don't want to see you thinner than them. That too can be fear related. Good luck, don't let them get the best of you. Remember all the reasons why you chose to go down this path in the first place.
  2. I had a positive experience as well however I did find myself quite tired in those first couple of weeks. Especially the first week if you are on strictly clear liquids. I found that until I was allowed to move to full liquids which included protein drinks I felt a bit weak. Once I was allowed full liquids which was one week post op the. I started to have more energy. I would understand the type of diet your doc has you on. It seems some people go home on full liquids vs. clear and maybe they don't get that.
  3. I had a great experience as well. I was in hospital 2 days, up and walking immediately after surgery. Most pain is from gas they use to see inside your tummy. I went home on wed. By Thursday I was done with pain killers and focusing on getting in liquids. For me sleeping was not an issue but I am lucky enough to have an adjustable bed. I would imagine that would be more difficult without one, had I not, I probably would have slept in a recliner as even in the hospital I kept myself out of my bed the majority of the time I was there. It helps alleviate all the gas and gives you a head start. I have not had any complications and I am down 62 lbs in 11 weeks.
  4. You guys are rock Stars! I am currently living vicariously through you. I am looking forward to getting to the point where I too have lost enough weight to finish my body transformation. Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your progress!
  5. Nice to meet you Derek! Good luck to you today. Sending warm thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!
  6. I have been doing quite well and I snack in between. My surgery date was 9/29 and I have lost 62 lbs. I drink 2 protein shakes with 30 grams of protein per day. I eat 3 small meals about 1/4 cup - high protein/ vegetable and then I will snack on either a light string cheese or an oz. of beef jerky. I will say my breakfast is only higher carb meal I eat and that is oatmeal with fruit and protein boost. I also do about an hour of cardio every other day, on those days I have to push some extra calories in. I am up to about 750 calories a day on those days.
  7. Good luck! I hope all goes well today! Warm thoughts and prayers are with you.
  8. I thought the Tylenol with codeine would be a problem for me too. The reality is I would only take one and they really did not bother me. I only ended up taking it twice before I switched to luquid Tylenol. The reality is you should be doing some resting anyway. I hated taking the liquid medicines because the alcohol in them and high sugar content made my pouch burn and made me jittery. I per safely better not taking anything and using a heating pad and gas x to deal with any gas pains. By day 2 home from the hospital I felt pretty good and was just dealing with managing all the fluids. Good luck!
  9. Don't be nervous, stay excited! They will go over all the information you have already researched and will likely give you more. I am sure they will walk you through their process and expectations. Get some rest tonight, and don't worry. I think I dreamed about going through this process every night for a year and when my day finally came it reminded me of how I felt as a little kid on Christmas Eve. They are in the business of helping people like you and I get healthy, they will help you work through any roadblocks. Good luck tomorrow! Sending warm thoughts!
  10. Hi Tootie, I live in Shakopee, MN. Where do you live?
  11. I love your list! You see I went on a trip back in August with my kids and hubby and was unable to do so much. I tried but I held them back and they would not go withou me. I think I cried every night. at the time we knew I was about a month out from surgery and my granddaughter kept saying how this would be the last time i would not be able to walk very far or would not be able to go zip lining. Well, two weeks ago I went to Las Vegas with my husband. First, I had to go buy clothes that were 4 sizes smaller! Then when I got on the plane and into my seat, my seatbelt not only fit, I probably had an extra 6 inches! I walked all over Las Vegas and was not in pain, in fact my hubby and son got pooped out before I did! And I did not have to use a necklace extender. In February, I am taking my other son and Granddaughter to Hawaii, we have not been there since 1999. I have excursions planned on every island and I cannot wait to mark things off my list! You are going to have a blast when it happens for you. I am less than halfway to my goal and only 10 weeks post op and I feel so blessed to be where I am already!
  12. From everything I have read and understand it is 48 to 64 total oz. of fluids per day as the first responder stated. Your proteins drinks should be counting toward this and any other liquids. I have yet to get to 64. I am darn lucky if I get to 50 in a day with my protein shakes and water. Also there is something about artificial sweetners in crystal light post surgery that just don't work for us. It is just gross. I bought one of those bottles that has the core inside where you can put fruit inside. For me the thing that works best is lemons. at the end of the day the thing that works best for me is room temperature water and If I am going to have a good fluids day, I have to sit with that bottle in my had and sip sip sip like crazy for a couple of sessions a few times a day. If I set it down I forget about it. In the first few weeks I actually had myself so stressed about this but was told by my nurse not to stress, just do the best that I could and try hard to stay hydrated so I did not get sick. I only let it happen once and trust me, you don't want to det dehydrated. You really feel like crap. Just do the best you can but don't get hung up on 64oz.
  13. That is very good advice! Every day gets a Little easier. After the 4th day I think it became very easy for me.
  14. My clinic put me on a chewable multi vitamin 6 months before I had the surgery. They stopped it a day before and restarted it at the 4 week post op mark.
  15. I bought my Fitbit about 10 days ago. I was using My fitness pal religiously since surgery and I wanted to two to link. I love it! I am so happy that I bought the charge, I now find myself looking for new ways to meet my goals everyday. It's alot of fun!
  16. It really is strange and must depend on each of our medical situations.
  17. I also noticed that I cannot stand the smell or taste of fried or sweet foods anyway. I am so darn happy about that! It does not appeal to me in the least. The hardest thing for me to deal with has been I just have wanted a darn sandwich. I am allowed to have bread if I wanted it but it fills you up terribly and makes u feel like crap anyway so I have learned to use fruit or if I must a cracker. I love a piece of apple with cheese on it! Great snack.
  18. Speaking of protein bars, I love quest bars. High in protein, low carbs. Clean food. At first I was terrified of them but I have to tell you I LOVE them. I have not had a chance to try them all but, banana nut, apple pie, coconut cashew, strawberry cheesecake are all very good. They give you a big protein bump although I can only munch on about 1/3 of a bar.
  19. I did the same thing. There have actually been times when I have struggled to want to eat at all. Sometimes watching the food network has helped me actually eat what I need to. I have not had issues at all with cravings which is very strange.
  20. You also have to pay attention if you have hypothyroid. I dropped 40lbs in my first 5 weeks. My hair started falling out very dramatically. I went in to have all my levels checked to see if it was iron, protein or my thyroid. It turned out that everything was normal with the exception of my thyroid. I had lost weight so quickly and was now taking too much replacement.
  21. I personally feel like it gets better but it is that savory itch that I think gets the best of us. I remember being able to have my first real bite of savory foods after the puréed stage. For me, I did not do well on that stage and lived on yogurt and cottage cheese so I ended up waiting unting soft food stage before I really went to savory foods. I did pass for me although you will probably find your tastes change and what you think will taste delicious might not. It is all trial and error. Good luck.
  22. Good luck to you! We are always here for you!
  23. I cannot do artificial sweeteners of any kind, if I use sugar I use real sugar in tiny amounts. Since surgery I am also lactose intolerant.
  24. Va va boom! You look fantastic! Great job on your fabulous success. I cannot wait until I acheive the same.
