  1. - Drinking or eating ice cold food - It took me a long time to figure out that my stomach just simply doesnt like it at all. I knew about cold Water because every morning i have to drink room temp or warm Water to wake my stomach up. But even now 2 years, 2 months post op i have really trouble with drinking ice cold milk, even yogurt....it just needs to warm up slightly and then i dont get a gut ache.

    - The amount of time spent on planning my meals/snacks. I find if i dont, then i end up going off plan. So, i need to make sure that I have the right foods in my fridge and pantry always.Traveling makes that harder to do. I have to be on purpose about water and Protein or i lose track. If i eat crap, i feel like crap and i crave good Protein and good carbs. If i do take a day where i go off plan and eat more carbs, It is harder to get back on track.


  2. Keep your eye on the prize! Remember why you are doing this and dont give in to these issues. You can do it.

    As for hubby, you might ask him just for now to eat in the other room? That might help you at least through pre op.

    Mine was great and super supportive. He refused to eat anything in front of me during pre op and even post op for about a month. I actually had to convince him it was ok to eat in front of me post surgery.


  3. I would argue here. I never had dumping syndrome. I am 26 months post op. Recently i have had several episodes of full blown dumping. The shakes, sweats, heart racing and very sick to my stomach.

    They have come on while eating things I probably shouldnt be (product 19 cereal) & pumpkin pie.

    after having it 3 times with the Cereal, i figured out what was happening and threw the box away.

    I am not sure why it could happen so late in the game and have done no research to figure it out but it is definately dumping.


  4. Ha, great question! Anywhere!!!!!! Literally!

    I used to be stuck ordering on line or shopping at Lane Bryant. Now, I literally can go into any store and buy clothing and shoes. When i started losing weight, it was about getting healthy. It never really dawned on me until i started swimming in my clothes that I would be small enough to fit in a large or medium top, a size 8 jeans!!!!

    For goodness sakes, I started at a 26!

    So, I shop anywhere and everywhere and it is a blast trying on new clothing! I used to hate shopping!

    You will be surprised as your weight drops how much your body changes. because you are so tall, you obviously do have bigger bones so I am not suggesting you dont.

    I was always told i was big boned as well. I am 5'10" (I used to be 5'11") and wore a size 11W shoe. After losing all of my weight, i have learned that I have long bones but geez, what was once big wrists and feet are now very small.

    I used to have to have bracelets made for my wrists that were 8.5 inches. Now I wear my tiny mother n laws bracelets and they are 7 inches!

    My shoe size shrunk nearly right away (within the first 60lb loss). I wear a size 10 regular shoe! Everything has shrunk, including my height again which i was told is normal. Weird!!!

  6. Try one new thing at a time. You can do that every day usually. If a food does bother you, try it again in a few weeks or months. There are many foods that i could not eat right away. Raw veggies of any kind was one of them for me.

    But by 6 or 8 months post op i was able to eat most things.

    Also, go very slow, chew really well. Make sure your Proteins are not overcooked, nice and juicy. You may have to use sauces or broths with your Protein initially.

    I still have a hard time with any pork besides pork tenderloin. But i can eat pretty much any other Protein. Fish and chicken were the easiest for me initially.

    You have to remember that both surgeries are invasive. With RNY they reroute your intestines, with Sleeve they remove 90% of your stomach.

    The important thing to realize is that you may go through it twice if you already have GERD.

    I had it so severe and now nothing. I can eat those foods i never could touch before. Now when hubby gets GERD, I feel so bad for him. I just remember that burning sensation in my chest and throat and many nights walking the floor instead of sleeping.

    Its just not worth the risk in my opinion to hope that it doesnt get worse with the sleeve. Many people who have never had GERD, get it following the sleeve. So.....at the end of the day you need to decide what is most important for you.

    The same happens to me with Lobster and Crab and has for about 10 years now. I saw an allergist who told me it is definately an allergy and that I should steer clear of those food items.

    I currently eat shrimp all the time and she also told me not to stop because if i did it was likely that would become an allergy like lobster and crab. I have not had scallops in years and I am afraid to try it.

    Even 1 bite of lobster and crab makes me deathly ill like i have food poisoning. I used to love these and there have been times post surgery where i think maybe I should just give it a try again but the fear of how ill i got the last few times i tried them, keep me from even trying.

    I asked my surgeon about maybe trying them now that I dont get reflux anymore and he said absolutely not. If the allergy develops badly enough it can cause breathing issues and after not having those things for more than 10 years, i dont know if it has gotten worse.

    eggs, make me sick but not like crab and lobster.

    And you are right, i would not want to try eating crap and seeing if i can maintain. First, eating crap makes me feel like crap.

    Second, I have had a week or two of eating some of the foods that caused my problem in the first place. Right after plastics in July, i became ravenously hungry. I am sure it was because I was healing.

    The reality is, you can eat around these surgeries two different ways. 1.) you can graze eating small meals or snack throughout the day - You will gain weight 2.) you can eat the wrong foods increasing your calories because those foods cause spikes in your blood sugar, and create cravings therefore causing you to eat more

    There may be other ways, but i have experienced both and guess what? I gain weight......I gain if i eat crap and I gain if i graze.

    i am guessing I am not the only one.

    I track everything I eat in myfitnesspal and have for the last 3.5 years. I know exactly what I put in my body 90% of the time and understand the macro nutrients as well. For the first 2 years, I weighed and measured everything and lost 100% of my excess weight. I have been maintaining under or at goal since March of this year.

    Prior to that I was on diet after diet trying to lose weight. Even during my 9 months prior to surgery when monitored by a nutritionist, I lost a whole whopping 5lbs then entire time and I stuck to the plan. Which, I was told was normal for people with metabolic disease and at my age.

    I am not sure what your age is but it really matters. I am 53 and I used to be able to lose weight very easily. There comes a point in time when your age, the fact that you might be going through menopause and your metabolic disease effects everything and you can no longer lose weight without help.

    What you eat is very important to losing the weight and ultimately keeping it off. I am not saying that you can never have those foods again, all I am saying is they cannot be the norm because if it is, you will likely have regain issues.

    Many of the folks on this site who have gained some or all of their weight back can tell you that it isn't about the amount at this stage, it is about what you put in your tummy. If you consistently go back to foods that are not high in Protein and good carbs, you will likely gain.

    There has honestly not been a time in the last 30 years that I wasn't on a "diet". I was always always on some type of plan to lose weight and or maintain my loss since i was in my 20's.


  11. Congratulations on your fantastic results! I totally get it regarding the jiggly tummy. I never thought it would bother me but it makes clothing difficult and for me, it pulls on my back. Unfortunately I have not heard of any insurance covering a lower body lift. I have heard of them covering a panni removal but that likely will not correct the problem with tummy muscles.

    Most women who have had children need muscle repair and you had twins so it is very likely.

    I am having my full abdominalplasty, Breast lift with augmentation for all the reasons you listed an more.

    I wish you the best of luck and hope you are able to get what you want! Many plastic surgeons have a care credit program in which you can finance with zero percent interest. If you cannot get it covered, maybe that might allow you to get it done sooner.


  12. Has it stopped? How far out from surgery are you?

    I will also ask are you at goal with drinking fluids? The reason I ask is this in itself will make you feel like absolute crap and it is a vicious circle.

    If you dont drink you get dizzy, nauseous, headache, weak and overall crappy feeling. Start sipping......
