After surgery diet?
the most important thing is to make sure you are getting enough protein. You do not want your hair to start falling out. Talk to your Dr. or call the nutritionist.

Inches flying off but the scale won't budge
Because of my body build my Dr. told me to count inches instead of weight. He said I might have slow weight loss but not to worry as the inches will fall off. Start keeping track of inches and forget the weight for a while, see what happens.

December Surgery Dates
As a nurse I do not see how your Dr. can find food in your stomach if you are without food and liquids the 12 hours before surgery. Unless you really have been cheating a lot. Your digestive track has peristalsis and moves the food along at a normal pace unless you have some physical problem other than obesity. I could be wrong, but I have never heard of food in the stomach if you follow the orders 24 hours before. This comment however does not give anyone permission to overeat in the preparation for surgery. Am I just confusing people more??

December Surgery Dates
The first thing i would say is settle down it is not the end of the world. You are not the first person to slip off your diet. But now get back on that horse. Follow the diet the rest of the time. If you stick to the diet from here on in and then are without food and liquids for the proper time before surgery you will be fine for the surgery. As far as telling your Dr. fine if you want to. but remember at this point it is what you eeat in a week. Going off this time only will not kill you. My dr. has me on two meals a day with liquid protein one day. no liquid diet at this point. Your stomach will be empty if you follow the no foods or liquids the day before like you are supposed to. So pat yourself on the back for the choice you have made to improve your health and think positively about what you will be able to do next year. Come on get back on that horse.

Can't wait to hear your experience. I also gained weight, only it was 10 pounds, I can't believe what I was eating. But I have 6 of it off, so that is a start. Like you I believe I am very prepared for this. I have 9 days to wait.

let's get to know each other
so now that I have had my pitty party, I am 56, married almost 35 years and have 3 grown sons. Actually life is pretty good for me and solving this weight problem, or at least having help will be the icing on the cake.

let's get to know each other
I am with you about the liquid diet over Christmas. I am a school nurse, and it is amazing to me the number of people in the medical field that are overweight. I am having surgery the first day of christmas break and will then have two weeks to recover. My problem is I am not at all in the Christmas Spirit. I am so focused on this. Plus mymother in law is having some problems and lives out of twon so i need to go spend a week with her for a hospitalization right before my surgery. Today is a difficult day, don't know why I feel so bummed out but this will pass, if i can just get through the day without chocolate.

Home from 12/3 surgery
Hi Carol and all, I had my gallbladder out in 80. My dr. was surprised by the size of my scar. I had no idea this could stop the ability to place the band. I can't imagine how I would deal with that. Carol I hope you are doing better.

I have not seen my surgery team, arent they the people you see the day of surgery?

starting the pre op diet on the 4th(tuesday)
my dr. wants all his patients to only use medifast protein and supplements. He gives us the information to set up online. I am starting as soon as I get my protein, hopefully on Tuesday. I am not real gungho about this, but will give it a go. The thing that impresses me most about my dr. is his focus on health and not just weight loss. I am expecting to have to work at it but also be very successful!

December Surgery Dates
It is very normal to feel that way. My surgery date is the 19th, I am both excited and nervous. I hate hearing we don't wake up skinny. That has been my dream all my life. but now I am finally doing something about it. I know it will take a while but I am up for it. I am hoping my ticker shows, took me forever to figure this out.

My nurse made me feel like a failure and a PIG
In Washington only the licensed professional Registered nurse or licensed practical (vocational) nurse can call themselves a nurse. Unfortunately many people think anyone in a dr. office or hospital is a "nurse". Not true, in fact, it is illegal to call yourself a nurse if you are not one. I have been an educator at a Medical Assistant program (I am a RN with a Masters) and their education is about 7 months with a test they can or cannot take at the end of the training to become certified. They do not have the critical thinking skills of nurses. There are so many differences. The reason we see so many MA's instead of nurses. They are a lot less expensive to hire. I have seen excellent MA's. They are the ones that are proud of what they do and not the "wanna be nurses". Can you tell this is a hot topic for me. Just ask the person in the office of hospital what kind of nurse they are, they will usually have to admit they are an MA and that will help to deflate them a little.

I know what you mean about being on a roller coaster. I go from very excited to just being in limbo waiting for things to get moving.
