mimisturn reacted to jujubslim in Do u ever wonder how people here eat such a perfect diet - all the time?
Personally, I strive to be one of those perfect eaters. I'm only 5 weeks out so it's all still new to me. I know I won't be perfect but that's my goal. My thinking is what I've done up to this point in my life isn't working. I didn't put my body through these drastic measures to keep abusing it. For me it's important to be accountable and aware of what I'm eating so I faithfully log everything, that's what works for me. I certainly don't pass judgement on others, but I'm certainly going to try my hardest to stay away from those trigger foods, I've had enough of that junk to last a lifetime.

I read most threads and simply shake my head at some of the complaints posted. I am a little more than 3 months post op have soooo many reasons to complain. (Sarcasm) I hate the fact that I have lost 65 lbs 2/3 of my goal, and have lost much of my appetite. I hate that now I can walk 18 holes of golf, work for 6 hours and still have the energy to chase my wife around the house.
And I hate the fact that now, rather than simply wearing clothes to cover up my size, I wear clothes that make me feel good about how I look.
Go for it and don't waste your time reading negative threads.

Looks like I will just mirror what everyone else said as far as not wanting to re-route my intestines, etc.. I have a friend that had RNY in April, 2014 and as of yesterday, she's down about 90 lbs. However, she said she's got quite a bit of loose skin. I was sleeved 9/23/14 and as of yesterday I'm down 30 lbs, but since I'm at the gym several times a week, I'm not noticing any loose skin yet. I'm sure there will be some at some point, I'm just hoping not too much!
I was a little concerned with "only" losing 30 lbs in 2 months, but my doctor confirmed that it's probably in large part due to building muscle, which we all know is denser than fat. He's very happy with the slower weight loss, as he feels it will be easier to keep off in the long run. All I know is that my donation pile is growing every week and while I'm still living out of my closet (you know, those clothes we all said we'd get back into "someday"), I'm about ready to go thrift store shopping! Oh, and I have a couple of tops with horizontal stripes that I'm not afraid to wear now!!!
So the sleeve has definitely been a blessing for me, and since I had my surgery two days before my birthday, my birthday celebration will take on a whole new meaning from now on!!!

Today is my first Thanksgiving since being "sleeved" on April 30th. My journey in pre-op began November 1st, 2013 and since then I have lost 140 lbs!!!! I am 22 pounds to goal, and I feel fantastic!! This journey has come with some sacrifices. It is not a quick fix, however, it is a wonderful tool, if you use it correctly! I exercise 5 days a week or more, I eat clean, avoid all carbs and sugars, and live on Protein, veggies, and a tiny bite of fruit now and then. I weigh and log everything that I possibly can on My Fitness Pal and I am sticking to an 800 calorie diet until I reach goal. I am bummed at times that I can't eat some of the yummy foods my family and others are eating, but I am in such a different mindset now that I get over it within minutes and I just keep on doing my thing.
For those of you considering this surgery, I say DO IT, but keep in mind that it's not a quick fix and it won't make you "skinny" if you aren't willing to do the work. Yes, you can eat whatever you want in small amounts and lose weight initially, but from what I hear, keeping it off is the hard part. If you don't change/break those bad habits now how will you keep the weight off? That's been the struggle for us all along, right?? Just some "food for thought" on this food-laden day.
Happy Thanksgiving, all! Stay healthy and eat healthy today (and a bit of exercise won't hurt, either). Your body will be thankful!

I had my surgery on May 19 2014. Best decision I have ever made. I've had great sucess and continue to drop weight. It's changed my life. People treat me better at work, at the store, and everywhere else, it seems. I've enjoyed seeing people's reaction to my transformation and the positive feedback I've been getting. I've met a super great guy. He's making me very happy. I'm enjoying life more. I'm addicted to walking. I go for one or two 30-40 minute walks a day. I listen to music and soak up the beauty around me. I just feel so much happier. We had family photos a couple weeks ago and for the first time, in a long time, I felt confident and beautiful. I wasn't trying to hide behind my sisters or son. What a great feeling!!

I finally stopped throwing up 3 weeks ago. Feel bad for you that you had to endure not feeling that well on your vacation. The weight gain could be Fluid retention from flying too. I usually swell up like a balloon on flights over 3 hours! I
too am suffering from quite a bit of a queazy feelings after drinking anything. And for first time in my life I have been experiencing heart burn but mostly when I drink plain Water?!? Odd
Overall though, I feel GREAT. Down 26lbs since surgery, now that my calories are between 800-1000 /day the weight is moving much quicker. Started up with my Pilates instructor for the first time since surgery and she was shocked. Said I looked like I lost half of me! I love her! She's probably exaggerating - but it was sure nice to hear.
I have a brand new wardrobe weekly it seems. All of the beautiful clothes that I have bought over the past few years only to never wear them or rarely wear them do to my ever increasing size. Only now, I can wear them and some I've only worn once or twice and they are falling off now - what a tremendous journey.
I hope everyone is doing well too!

I had 3/4 of a homemade burrito last night. Flour tortilla, steak strips (I diced mine after they were cooked, refried Beans, Tomato, salsa, shredded cheese, a little lettuce. The amount of filling was small by the standards of pre-op but it tasted amazing and went down fine. I left about 1/3 of the tortilla and about 1/4 of the filling behind. But this is another point about being able to have your favorite foods again. If I ordered a restaurant burrito I would use a knife and fork, and pick out what I wanted from it and probably leave 2/3 behind, but it would still taste great.

Good job! I will be 3 weeks post op on Tuesday! Yay I get to start purée phase! Not had a bite of food in 20 days! What's strange is when I'm around food that smells good, ya I think yum! But my stomach says no way! I am not hungry so it's been easy as far as that goes. I'm just tired of shakes, broth & yogurt! It will be so nice to put something new in my mouth! I hope I will be able to tell when I'm full because I kind of feel full all the time! I want to make sure I'm eating enough, but at the same time I don't want to over eat! Any suggestions???

Today i Celebrate my one year surgiversary! I am so proud of everything that i have accomplished. I started at 257lbs and am now dow 98 pounds in total. My current weight is 159lbs. I am still a few pounds away from my goal but i am happier than i have ever been in my life. I have struggled with my weight since i was a little girl. I had such an intense loathing for the way i looked most of my life. I feel like this surgery has changed me so much mentally and physically. before i had pain all over my body, Migraines, depression etc. I would refuse to even look at people. Now i have gained so much confidence and it feels so good! i chase my kids around the park for hours while before i was only able to go for about 30 mins. i wouldnt exercise at all and I was treating myself horribly by gorging myself on food. now i feel like i actually know what real NUTRITION is. its not just stuffing my face. its all about giving my body fuel, and using that fuel for energy. One of the best parts is that i can go about my day and not have to think about food every second. Before i literally felt like i was that little boy in the movie d**k Tracy, all i could say is "when do we eat?" I wouldnt trade my sleeve for anything. So for the first time here are my before and after pics.

Thanks. I don't feel like the same person. I didn't realize how bad I felt but I was in a visous cycle of eating bad and no exercise. I really went back and forth about having the surgery but am SOOOOOO glad I did! I'm off all blood pressure, arthritis and thyroid medicine and feel great!

No fear! I posted the same question before I started solid foods! I didn't really ever feel full on the liquid phase, and I was worried. As soon as I put something solid in my mouth (I believe it was refried beans) BOY OH BOY did I feel it then! I could only take 3 bites and had that "tightness" in my chest that I'm now familiar with as the "you've eaten enough" feeling! Now at 3 months out, it takes me about 7 bites

@mamabrock- I totally agree with you! I am 2 weeks post tomorrow and just know everyday gets better. I felt really bad the first week and today I'm at Disneyland. Still a little sore and tired, but I had to get out and walk. I sit awhile, drink Water, walk a little rest again. It hasn't been enjoyable, but I have lost 16 lbs so I just know it's all going to be worth it!

It is soooooo normal! I had a couple of melt downs. Depressed. Hurting. Couldn't take my pain meds. Not everyone has a rosy recovery. I was tired and irritable. Ummmmm lets see what else. I worried about Protein and fluids and I thought oh crap now what am I going to do? Well eventually you will find your groove and what works for you. Some people lose faster than others which to me was depressing. But slow but sure it starts coming off and you will start looking and feeling good and what you are going through will all be a distant memory. Good luck on your journey and it is just that YOUR journey. And you can do it!

Your feeling are definitely normal! I am 3 1/2 months post op and I feel great! The first 5-6 days I questioned it. I asked myself why, but when I went in for my first post op appt and saw the weight loss I knew I was going to be ok. I knew I had made the right decision. Today I am down 83lbs and have gone from a size 24W pant to a size 14 misses. You can do it! Push any negative thoughts or feelings away. Stay positive and stay focused! You are doing great!

Your feelings are normal and something many of us wrestle with. I am 3 days post op and despite how much research I did before the surgery I still have the same feelings that you are now going through. You are not alone. Please know that your feelings are normal and they will pass. The recovery period is probably one of the toughest challenges we will have.

I had my surgery almost 6 months ago. I've lost 60 lb and feel great. Off my BP meds and lipid panel is normal for the first time in my life. I lost a lot of hair but that finally stopped. I cut it shorter and it looks better and what i have left is healthy hair.
I went through a stall that lasted for 5 weeks but i just kept doing what I'm supposed to and it eventually broke. I realized stalls are good. They are your body's way of trying to set a new weight setpoint. If my weight loss continued at that pace i would waste away to nothing. I'd still like to lose another 30lb or so, and I'm sure I'll get there. I'm in a losing phase again, but feel good that i probably won't waste away. Lol My body will adjust and i look and feel great. Some people at work call me "skinny." That's something i don't ever recall anyone calling me! Right now i wear a size 14 or a large, but my large scrubs are starting to get too big so I'll have to buy new ones again soon. Not that i mind!
Stalls don't worry me much, nor my surgeon, they are just part of the journey. A journey I'm so proud of myself that i had the courage to take. NO REGRETS!

That's so great to hear! I am 9 days post still going through the healing process, but I can already tell I'm going to love the sleeve. I felt like you with the band, food getting stuck, throwing up, being hungry but can't really get the food down so ice cream and slider foods were easy access. This seems so natural you eat and get full then stop eating! The hardest part is having to have liquids for 3 weeks, then mushy foods for 3 weeks. But I know it will be all worth it!????
