  1. The hair loss may or may not happen to you. I have definitely read more posts from people that it did happen to. But they have also said that their hair grew back. So no worries there! You need to research Telogen Effluvium. There is no magic pill, oil, or powder that will stop it IF it is going to happen to you. You can purchase Biotin if you like, but be aware that it can affect all hair growth. This means it can put a few hairs on your lip and chin. Also, you have to make sure you consume lots of water b/c it can also cause acne. And not just acne on your face. Lots of people cut their hair into a shorter/layered style until the hair loss stops. Some also color their hair a lighter color during this time. A few wear wigs. Just know that this phase will end and the hair will grow back.
  2. Call your surgeon. I suffered for 2 weeks before I called mine. He told me there was too much acid and wrote a prescription for Protonix. After a week it did the trick.

    Sense of smell

My sense of smell was heightened for a while. Unfortunately everything smelled awful! Sometimes my own food would begin to stink in the middle of eating. It is not easy to continue eating when you associate your food with crap. It lasted about 10 -14 days and then it left.
  4. My intake nurse was awesome. She definitely helped to calm me down. I was actually doing OK until she came toward me with a needle to give the shot in the belly. I think she saw the look of panic in my face and my grabbing the covers about to bolt down the hallway, ass out!!! She brought me back to reality and talked softly and calmly. A few hours later I was sleeved and all is good!
  5. I'm 2 months out and yes I had the slow down of energy early out. I would be exhausted after taking a shower. I talked to my surgeon and he said I should feel better after I leave the liquid diet behind and get to "real" food. (This is not a suggestion to run out and start eating meat if it is not time to do so according to your plan). Before the change of food I had to fight through the exhaustion. I knew that not moving would only feed the want to sit and do nothing. So after a few moments I got up and made myself move. It will get better!

    Hiatal hernia repair

Hi. I'm new to this site but had my VSG 8/14/14. With the liquids, you are doing the right thing with trying different temperatures. You may want to take smaller sips. At one point my sips were just getting the tip of my tongue wet. What really helped me was walking while I drank my Water. I don't mean a stroll. I was moving my legs! The moving helped the water pass without feeling like someone kicked me in my chest. May I suggest that you put the scale away. You are three days out from surgery. Standing on the scale every day will do nothing but drive you batty. I still don't have a scale in my house because I am compulsive. I would weigh several times a day if it was right there in my home. In the beginning I just waited until my surgeon visits to find my weight. I was never disappointed. I didn't have that dreaded 3 week stall everyone gripes about. I weighed in the doctor's office during the week 1 visit and weighed again during the week 3 visit. Guess what....the weight was down. No stall. After a few weeks, I picked Monday as my official weigh in and just plot my weight once a week on a graph. Some people plot their weight once a month. This way I don't get caught up in the day to day fluctuations your body will make. Before surgery I wrote a list of NSVs I wanted to achieve. This way I could Celebrate something in the event the scale doesn't move from one week to another. Who cares that I didn't lose 1 pound this week because I was able to button a pair of pants that I haven't worn in yearssssss!!!! Just find other ways to celebrate.
