  1. Congrats!! You look amazing!
  2. When I say dating...I mean serious long term relationships. Of course lots of men like big women...but in my experience its only for sex and nothing more. New Yorkers can be very vain...here its all about looks. Ive actually heard men admit to only liking big women because they thought they were easier. And usually the ones who like me are not my type. I've tried online dating and it just never seems to work out. The guys are either crazy, too old or just wanna have sex. I hate to admit this but my thin friends get the better quality guys. I have a vibrant personality, totally cute, confident, and socially active. But at the end of the day Im always getting over-looked.
  3. What hospital in NYC did you get your surgery?
  4. Good question. I'm also part of team natural and have managed to grow thick hair in the last 4 years. Set to be sleeved in March and hoping to retain growth without weaves. I do take Hairfinity hair Vitamins but I'm not the most compliant lol
  5. Ahhhh I can't wait for a dating life...I've been single about 8 years???????????? So tired of people asking when I'm gonna get married and have children. And yes that awful back fat has got to go!
  6. A vintage high-waisted bikini ????????????or any cute body-con dress
  7. You have to call your insurance. I have United Healthcare Choice Plus through my employer in NY. I called them up and they required: -BMI 40 or 35 with co-morbidity -6 month physician supervised diet -Psychiatric consult I was also linked up with a Bariatric nurse who referred me to a Bariatric center of excellence. Good luck!
  8. Such a positive thing to hear about insurance! No matter the wait time, any insurance who pays for your healthcare with little or no cost is GREAT insurance. There are so many folks in this country without coverage. Shout out to United Healthcare!
  9. Why not call and make an appointment with the surgeon?...Thats what I did. I actually had 2 appointments with them (which I think the 2nd was total bullshit and abuse of insurance on the surgeons part) and got tons of questions answered. They even let me pick a tentative surgery date in March 2015. My hospital also has info sessions and post op support group. Look into it hun...even if your hospital doesnt have it maybe another one does. Nothing is too obsessive when it comes to your health.
  10. Congratulations! Good luck with everything...hope this procedure suits you better.
  11. You know what I find heartbreaking in this thread...besides the back and forth bickering amongst people with the same illness. I find the satisfaction of banders of the possible failure of the VSG in 10 years to be quite sickening. I've heard and read that on this webpage and not one of the people who wrote it can provide credentials of their own that support that they actually work in medical research. The same way it's annoying for banders to constantly have Lapband side effects thrown in their face it's annoying for Sleevers to hear that their surgery will suck in 10 years. Everyone needs to grow up and stop tearing each other down. Geesh!!!
  12. Yep...I did low carb high Protein and lost 25lbs in two months. So I was definitely in the supermarket on my protein scout...had nothing to do with WLS. Unfortunately I gained it all back ????.
  13. Congrats! I have the same insurance. How long did they take to get back to you? Why so close to the scheduled date?
  14. That's so cool! Wish I had a buddy to go with me. Good luck to you both on your journey to a healthier life.
  15. Congrats on taking a big step to a healthier life. Everything has side effects...even doing nothing and remaining obese. Call your insurance ASAP and ask about coverage, physician supervised diets and best surgeon. As far as research and statistics goes, there is a separate forum on here devoted to that. Good luck with everything...keep in touch!
  16. To the people who say "that's why I don't tell people my business"...you should know that whether you tell people your business or not they are gonna be in your face. Last year I lost about 20 lbs doing low car dieting and exercise. A friend saw me and said "wow, you lost weight"...I replied "thanks" and left it at that. Made a comment about he stairmaster and he felt the need to give me a 2 page essay on why the stairmaster is a poor choice....all Cuz he lost 60lbs he thinks he's a professional. I'm Learning to ignore folks like that.
  17. Do what makes you feel comfortable. Maybe in the future you'll be ready to shout it from the rooftops.
  18. Sometimes I wonder why people do the things they do. Why can't she just be happy for your success?
  19. I didn't mean to ignore the co-morbidities, it just seems that those of normal weight who judge harshly are not coming from that standpoint. Much like you Im 29, overweight and healthy. But I'm a healthcare worker and I realize that illness is inevitable if I don't lose weight.
