For the pizza lovers in the house, have any of you tried making pizza with cauliflower crust? A friend of mine who is a vegatarian made it for me just before I had my surgery, and it was yummy!!!! Look up recipes for it, and give it a try. The Protein count for it with the cheeses and maybe some chicken is pretty high. From the things I've been reading, there really isn't too many foods you can't find some sort of a suitable substitute for. I'm going to consider it a personal challenge to sample and try all kinds of new stuff once I can eat solid food again. In fact I'm looking forward to it.

I'm scheduled for 11/24. I will also be having my gall bladder removed. Hope that added surgery doesn't prolong recover -- I'm scheduled to take 2 weeks off...... I'm very excited and am looking forward to the new lighter me!

I had my pre-op appointment today, with surgery on Nov 17th. During which someone from the financial department came and gave me an estimated bill for my surgery, $93,568. I'm lucky my insurance is covering all but $218.

Is anyone interested in a secret group on Facebook? I find FB easer to use then this app and it would be a great way to keep up with all November sleevers. Also secret groups are completely private so your FB friends will not see anything you post or even know that you are in the group.

I hear ya, kbuska. My hubs tried everything he could think of to talk me out of my decision to have the WLS. But, when my mind is made up, it's made up. He knows I am trying to lose a little but before my 5th supervised Dr appt,(just to prove I'm trying)......(one of the hoops). He comes home from work every day mad I didn't make dinner. Um....I haven't made dinner since the last son moved out 8 years ago. Why should I start making dinner now? You are a grown man, you can feed yourself. Oh, and it's an argument every weekend.....he wants to go to the "free" casino BUFFET!! REALLY?! I don't want to go to a buffet! EVER AGAIN. I don't like them, anyway. The food is aweful, and no telling who all has sneezed in it or touched it, or how long it sat out. No thank you. Can't wait to see what arguments we have after I have the surgery. Maybe by then he'll realize I meant it.

I do liability estimate for patients for a living and 9 times out of 10 if a patient is double covered and they have met their deductibles they end up being covered at 100%

@@shelby77 I guess it depends on your overall bill. I have insurance that paid for everything but 200 dollars. I got the statement from the financial lady in my surgeons office when I paid my 200 and the out of pocket bill for everything would have been 19,500. Thank god for insurance. I don't know if that helps Or not.

I am the Maid of Honor in my best friends wedding. While shopping for her wedding dress the boutique only had a size 2 in the one she wanted to try. So....she asked me to try it on. I've been married forever but dug out my actual wedding pic for a side by side. What a shock. I sure wish I would have had my sleeve years ago!! Love my sleeve.

I have the same problem with my mom. When I told her my surgery date was set, she said she hoped I came to my senses before then. I politely informed her that an Ebola breakout would have to shut down the hospital for me to change my mind.
I am fortunate that my husband fully supports me as well as co workers...I teach in a school where three people have already had WLS and I'll be next! I am ready to move on with my life and let my mom see that this was the right decision.
I just pray hard that there is no complications so I don't have to hear the "I told you so"

I had sleeve surgery, gall bladder removal and ended up having a haital repair also. I guess they didn't catch it with the barium swallow. I was in the hospital one day longer than I thought I would be. My oxygen also was dropping too low so it could have been that that kept me in the hospital a day longer. Anyways... I am a week and a day out and feeling great. No pain meds since I left the hospital last Friday and no pain. You'll do great!

    Hi Everyone,
My name is Eli and I am 21 years old. I just wanted to share my amazing journey with everyone and hopefully help anyone that needs it. Since I was a young boy I struggled with weight loss. I put weight on and I took weight off and it didn't seem like I could ever get it right. Growing up, all of my friends were thin so they never understood what it was really like to be overweight, nobody actually understands unless they actually walk a mile in your shoes. I was miserable, depressed, and felt like there was nothing in the world that could help me. As a lineman for my high school football team I justified my extreme weight gain with the fact that I needed to be bigger to play my position and this mindset caused my weight to spiral out of control.
When I graduated high school in 2011 I weighed the most I ever did and it took a huge toll on me as I was about to go away to college and had literally no self-esteem. Jumping ahead to my sophomore year of college I had now put on even more weight and it was affecting me more then ever. My grades were slipping, it didn't seem like any girl would ever want to talk to me, and most of all it was hard to look at myself in the mirror. When I came home from school after my sophomore year I weighed about 320 pounds, which was by far the most I ever weighed. When I came home in May that year I just came to the realization of what I did to myself and I asked myself, "How did I let this happen?" Before I continue I want everyone to know that this is not a sob story and that there is a huge gleaming light at the end of that tunnel. When the conversation of weight loss surgery was brought up for the first time I honestly felt offended because I never thought that it would possibly come to that and after countless talks with family members and friends I finally agreed to schedule an appointment and the Center for Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss in Ridgewood, New Jersey in June of 2013.
Fast forward to September of that year I had completed all of my pre-surgery requirements and a date for surgery was scheduled. My surgery happened on November 4th at New York-Presbyterian in New York City. Let me tell you that November 4th, 2013 was the first day of the rest of my life. I'll save the details of pre-surgery, hospital stay, and post-surgery for another post. On the day of surgery I weighed 316 pounds having lost a little in the months prior to my surgery date. Now, in October of 2014 I am proud to say that I weigh 196 pounds putting my total weight loss at 120 pounds. My life has changed in the most extreme way, not just with how I physically look and feel, but mentally, I am a different person. I am the happiest I've been in my entire life.
I understand that there are countless reservations people have before making probably the hardest decision of your entire life, because for me it was, but I can also proudly say that it was the best decision I have made in my entire life. I understand that you might feel that there is no way out of being overweight, but I'm here to tell you that there is. I am willing to talk to anyone who has questions and I am always available because I understand how hard it is to make this decision. PLEASE don't hesitate to ask me anything. Thank you for listening to my journey and my story and I hope this might help anyone who is on the fence or anyone who is scared or nervous. Lastly, I'd like to say how amazing the last year of my life has been and I hope everyone can share the same happiness I do.
    -Eli

My nut is part of the Bariatric team. She is like no other nut. She believes in moderation and balance in all things except things that can hurt your surgery. You would be thrilled to have her. She is amazing and has been there for me whenever I have needed her. She taught me to eat again after 5.5 months of not eating. She believes we live in the real world and need to eat in the real world. I am not brain washed, I have learned a lot from this lady!

I'm having surgery on on 10/22. I had to do two weeks of liquids beforehand. ALL liquids. While I have not been perfect, I have been pretty close. Tonight I had to go grocery shopping for the family. (Yes, that's so fun to do when you can't eat any of it!) Anyway, I was starving while in the store. So, I decided I could make a small salad at the salad bar and that wouldn't be too awful. I grabbed the container and filled it fill of healthy choices. No croutons, no crackers, no ranch dressing. I put it in my cart and continued shopping. I started thinking about that salad and being 3 days from surgery, and if it was really worth it. I decided it was not worth it and I didn't take the salad! I felt bad for wasting that food, but I would have felt worse if I had eaten it. I must say, I'm rather proud of myself.
