2 Days Post Op! Felt good for the past 2 days but gas seems to be getting worse. Travelling across the country on a 4 hr flight didn't really help. I also can only sleep on my back. How is everyone else doing?

I am now on day 5 and am doing ok. The surgery went fine and I went home the same day. Overall the surgery was a bit more intense than I expected. It was by no means unbearable but I was definitely more sore than expected. I am healing well and now the pain has reduced to soreness. My worst problem is intense shoulder pain. The only way I can relieve the pain is to lay flat on my back for a while. I didn't eat anything the day or surgery or the day after and didn't feel hungry at all. Starting day 3 my hunger started coming back and I am now at approximately 900 calories per day without any desire for more. I am also losing weight which is nice to see. Good luck everyone!

I'm 3 weeks post op now & feel completely back to normal. I did found it more painful than I had expected in the first few days but felt a little better each day. Walk off the gas pain it really eases it & helps stop it building up again. I used a pregnancy pillow to sleep on my side at night which really helped as I find it difficult to sleep on my back.

Hi all! So, I was banded this morning. I had been totally freaking out since last night. However, I am happy to report all went well... yippee! The whole experience and my pain level are so much less than what I had imagined. Staying overnight, because my doctor's cautious and we'd planned that. Have been allowed to chomp on ice pellets, which is a life-saver. Will practice Clear Liquids tomorrow. Bring on the cherry Jello! Be brave everyone... we can do this!

Surprisingly, I'm actually not too terribly hungry on the pre-op diet. I have, however, had an unbelievable headache for a solid week now. I'd given up my beloved Diet Coke awhile ago, so that surprised me. Spent Sunday in the emergency room getting what they called a "migraine cocktail" drip. I also have a lot more $ and free time now that I'm not spending it in drive-thru's.
    Wishing everyone well!

Great tip on the pillow! I've also been coughing up a bunch of mucus too from sinus drainage (I know, TMI!). The pillow just made that more bearable. I think the buffet of operating room antibiotics finally cured my sinus infection too. Lap-Band bonus!

@Tssiemer1... too much Protein? I haven't heard of that before. Can you tell me about it?
I just ordered some Isopure Perfect Zero Mint chocolate Chip Protein powder from Amazon.com. In my mind it will taste like my favorite ice cream. In reality, I'll probably be disappointed. Just couldn't help myself!

So, I just tried the unjury chicken Soup Flavor and it doesn't seem to have the unpleasant egg taste that was bothering me with their chocolate Splendor and Unflavored powders. I mixed 1 single-serve packet of Unjury chicken Soup Flavor (equivalent to 1 scoop) in 8 oz Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup (strained) and am sipping it out of my travel mug.
I appreciate the update on the "too much protein" scenario! That completely makes sense about over-stressing the kidneys. Thanks for the education!

I posted this on another thread I had started...but then I realized that was in a preop forum. I've graduated to post op now!

I had my surgery on June 11 in Toronto (I live in Vancouver). The surgery went really well...the trip home was a nightmare. Nausea, shoulder pain...gross. But ok so then I got home and figured stuff out. I'm now a month post op, and I've lost 36lbs (that includes 20 lbs pre op). I feel good. My incisions are completely healed. I am relieved that |I can start eating non-pureed or soft foods again I don't feel hungry unless I go for more than 4 hrs without eating. I'm surprised how good I feel. I won't say it's easy, but it's not nearly as miserable as I thought. I'm an emotional eater, and sadly we've had a death in the family (my 10 yr old son's dad died the week before my surgery). It was a real test of my resolve. But I powered through it, and continue to do it. My little man is struggling, but I'm making a conscious effort to not use food as a source of comfort. It's extraordinarily hard. I've started to use the Fitness Pal app, which has really assisted me in keeping on track w/ what exactly is going into my body. I've never ever paid that much attention before, and I make decisions now based on my journalling and intake. It's quite amazing. So while the preop diet...hahaha omg it was awful and I hated it, it was finite (for me 3 weeks). I will probably never eat sprouts or mushrooms again. Now, it's going to be about volume control, carb intake control and exercise. I have a really really long way to go still, but I find that every time I see that my efforts are paying off, it makes me that much stronger and confident. People are starting to notice and comment, and that also helps.

I hope that you're all doing well. I think that sharing here is helpful for each of us for different reasons. Mostly, to show that we are not alone. I am not alone. Neither are you.

But I"m pretty sure bacon misses me.

My NUT wants me to drink 5 shakes a day and each shake has 30g of Protein. She told me not to go over 110 g. It can damage my kidneys even more than they already are.

Premier protien. I have strawberry and cream under 19.00 at SAMs wholesale for a 12 pack of pre mixed. chocolate and vanilla are under 16.00 for a 12 pack of premixed. I found the premixed is mug better then the powder.

Yeah I'm not a fan of unjury either but I bought it so I'm going to drink it.
I was told I can't do Premiere Protein (which I like) on my pre op diet because it has too much Protein so I'm trying others. Not having much success.
Someone on here suggested I thin them out to avoid getting too much protein. I may do that if my NUT agrees.
I mean it's not fair to find one you like and then can't use.

Hiccups are not bad. They're variously cute, annoying, embarrassing or some degree of painful, but not "bad."
It may be that you were sipping too quickly. Let a little time elapse between sips. Small sips. That may or may not eliminate the hiccups.
You'll probably also find down the road, when you're eating real food again, that you hiccup part way through a meal. Hiccups are common signs of having eaten enough at that sitting. When you do hiccup under such circumstance, stop eating for a while and see if you're not sated. Hiccups are often referred to as a "soft signal" that it's time to stop.
Since you mention "meek" hiccoughs, here's a tip for the next several days. If you have bold hiccups or need to cough, sneeze, guffaw or some such, hold a bed pillow firmly against your middle (incision area) to brace yourself. The pillow will minimize pain at the incisions from the jolts.
    You're fine.

The pre-op is going better than I expected but still hard. One minute I feel like I am full enough and can do this and the next minute I think I am going to starve to death and contemplate cheating. Hopefully the ups and downs will slow down the further into this I get! The scale is definitely a motivator when I see the numbers going down.

Approved and surgery scheduled for October, check!!! After being on hold for almost 20 minutes with the insurance company today, I expected to be denied for a third time in three weeks due to paperwork. You could have knocked me over with a feather when the guy came back on and said APPROVED! The Subway "sandwich artist" thought I'd lost my mind when I started jumping up and down midway through applying cucumbers. Hehehe! Their denials were starting to get pretty creative too! I was almost curious to know what the next one would be.
For the record, I have hounded the coordinator at my doctor's office and insurance company for a solid three weeks. Seriously people... all the advice is correct... you have got to make yourself a pest to push things through. I have been sugar-sweet nice and appreciative every step of the way, but never allowed myself to hit the bottom of their to-do list. Don't assume anyone is on top of things, because they aren't. Don't wait for the denial paperwork in the mail. Just keep calling and getting the updates so you can tell the doctor's office what they need to do next. Only one of the official denial letters has turned up in the mailbox yet. If I'd waited each time, it would have been Thanksgiving before we got things ironed out.
If a low-BMI gal like me can get approved, so can you. If you know you qualify, it's just a matter of endurance!
Did I mention I booked a 2016 Disney Cruise today too? And that was before I'd even gotten the surgery news! A very satisfying day!

I am scheduled for Oct 14th. I have been waiting for 8 months now to get banded and now that I am actually scheduled I am a bit nervous. I have been consumed with reading posts, watching videos, and absorbing as much information as I can prior to the surgery. I really want this to be a huge success!

I can't wait for it to be over now, I've prepared myself in my mind although I am a little nervous as I've never had surgery before but I have confidence in the surgeon I've chosen and done everything I can to prepare so I am confident there is nothing I can change at this point.

So how are you all feeling? I've wanted this for so many years..... But now it's a reality!!! I'm quite nervous about it, I think that is mainly because of the association/addiction I have with food!! Xx
