    really struggling

    OMG I feel the exact same way. After all the crap I had to go through in order to have my surgery---I can't believe I feel this way. It's been 23 days since I had surgery.
  2. It's 23 days since my sleeve surgery. NOTHING tastes good. I have a horrible taste in my mouth. I have brushed my teeth and gargled mouthwash about 6 times per day-every day. Flossed....brushed my tongue, used my waterpic. I've gargled with salt Water. My stomach....doesn't feel good. Sometimes a get hungry, eat, and then tummy feels uncomfortable. At first I thought it was from overeating but now it just takes one or two small bites. Will this go away after more time passes? I've lost only 11 pounds since surgery
  3. I was torn too...my mom has been living with us for 3 years now. She's 78 and her health isn't the best and she has been dealing with lung cancer for the past 3 years. I went for it. I did a LOT of praying. This surgery isn't that bad-it doesn't take long to recuperate from. I will feel fine by the time she has to get her PET scan next month. I had to juggle a few things to get her appointments and mine to work out but in the end it did work out. My husband was a big help.

    Beginning of process

    It was a very long process for me. First, my insurance company wanted me to complete a 6 month long weight loss/management class, then I had the surgical evaluation, then I had to attend a four hour class about the different operations, an exercise class, a psychological evaluation, I had to write a paper about why I wanted the surgery, I had to have an overnight sleep test, a EGD scope, a surgical re-evaluation and a manometry test. All the while I had to keep a food diary and exercise log. I didn't think I would ever get the surgery! Oh, I quit smoking AND I had to give up coffee. Fifteen months all together. But I got my sleeve on the 24th of this month!!

    How to take pills

    Thanks for comments....I can't have the pudding yet but that is a good idea that I will try when I can have it. I did try with the raspberry ice crystal light and that sucked too. So far the cool whip is the best...I will just have to spread all my pills out over the day I guess. Too much cool whip made me feel sick.
  6. Hi everyone! Does anyone have any tricks to swallowing pills? I'm supposed to crush my paxil and blood pressure med and thyroid med. During a class the day I got discharged from hospital I was told to take my ursodiol by opening the capsule and putting it over some low calorie cool whip. I tried it with the crushed paxil and thyroid med...I had to use quite a bit of the cool whip. There has to be another way. And you can't drink much to get the taste out of your mouth....what is everyone else doing???????????????????

    hernia repair

    Wow,,,,thanks so much for commenting people!! I feel better knowing that others understand....
  8. Ok, had my sleeve surgery on the 24th. Doctor said he repaired a pretty big hiatal hernia. What I'm having in my chest area is not exactly pain...it's hard to describe. It's an uncomfortable feeling....like I have to burp really bad but don't. It happens every few seconds then goes away and comes back again and goes away, etc. It's right under my breast bone center of my chest. What the heck is that?

    Manometry

    I had one. Not a pleasant test to be honest. Really try to stay relaxed during the procedure so it will be over with sooner. My throat bothered me for 24 hours afterward.
  10. My surgery is on the 24th. I can have liquids (Protein drinks, sugar-free Jello, unjury chicken broth, Crystal Light, Water, coffee (decaf) and tea. Monday (day before surgery) no Protein Drinks or broth...just Crystal Light, water, coffee, tea and clear broth. I started my liquid diet last Tuesday. This has been hard. Today is the first day that I don't feel like I'm starving to death. That's great you've lost so much weight on this...I've only lost 5 pounds so far!!!!!!!

    HELP PLEASE FROM THE UK

    I feel so bad for you but admire your determination and your good outlook. I haven't had my surgery yet so I can't really help. {{{hugs}}}
  13. Update---this journey of mine.....not sure I want to finish it. I started with a weight loss clinic January 2014. Had to jump through so many hoops for my insurance to ok everything. I quit smoking cigarettes. I quit caffeine. I quit decaf coffee thinking it would help my GERD (didn't help very much). I woke up during my EDG and thought they were going to let me choke to death. I have a surgery date now-March 24. From the beginning I wanted the sleeve surgery-not the RNY. Because I have GERD the doctor said I should have the RNY. The sleeve will make my heartburn much worse. I also have esophagitis, gastritis and Barrett's esophagus. And because I got an infection after my hysterectomy in 2001 and got peritonitis, he said I probably have lots of adhesions and that meant he would have to do an OPEN RNY on me...a very looong incision. More complicated surgery, longer healing time, more pain, etc. He scheduled a manometry test and the soonest I could get in is the day before my surgery but they will have the results fast because of my surgery the next day. That will tell him how strong my esophageal sphincter is...if it's strong I can have the sleeve and if it isn't he will do the open RNY. So I don't even know which surgery I will even be having yet. The sleep test I had to go through in order to have this surgery found that I have sleep apnea. The stupid mask is making my face break out really bad. They are ordering liners for me so the mask doesn't touch my face. And I still only sleep 4 hours per night. Started my liquid diet and I am starving, I don't feel great and I am miserable. Don't you think it would be stupid of me to go through with this surgery? Why so many obstacles I wonder? Just venting I guess.
  14. Thank you Projectme The reason I don't want the RNY is I'm afraid of "dumping". I took care of my father-in-law (bedridden) who had diarrhea all the time (most of his stomach had to be removed because of ulcers)...my elderly mother suffers from it quite often (sometimes we have to turn around and come home from shopping)....I could not stand it if I have that problem. It scares the crap out of me. (pun intended) I know nothing about the RNY except you can suffer from "dumping" and malabsorption...... To top off my day I just got fitted for a stupid cpap machine.........I think I'm going to cry. If i drank I would tie one on tonight.
  15. Thank you Bufllehead.... I do not want the bypass....I am bummed.
