I need your help
The band is designed to help us lose weight (which most of us have done before) but the biggest benefit is that it will help us maintain our weight loss (which NONE of us have done before). The band is only a tool, it is still up to us for it to work. Best of luck to you in making the decision.

Feeling your band?
That is really strange because the area of stomach that is banded is behind your liver so I'm not sure how anyone could feel it through the skin. This is very interesting. I can't wait to hear what the Doc says. Please let us know.

Hello Everyone!
Welcome and WOW 18 pounds since surgery on the 23rd. That is amazing. I had surgery on 11/20 and I've only lost 6 pounds. What was your post-op diet?

Guess who is in Onederland?
It's me. I am very happy to have lost the 2 in front of my weight. I am now 199. Even though it is only 1 pound it feels like a 100. That was my first goal and I did it. :whoo:

Welcome Emily! You are doing great!

First Fill
Oh no. I'm so sorry! I hope it passes quickly. I will definitely be careful after my fill. Thank you so much for sharing.

Three Weeks Today!!
Marie, My Dr told me it is normal to gain a little when you start eating mushies but once your body adjusts you will start losing again. The same is true when you start eating "regular" food again. Your metabolism will adjust and then the weight will come off. You are doing great! Be patient!

First Fill
Thanks Mary! Good luck to you too.

Who's benig banded on 11/20???
Hey everyone, Firebolt, I've only lost 5 pounds since surgery. I lost 5 2 weeks before surgery and the other nine I've lost over the last year. I'm so glad your tumor is not cancer. I would want more answers too though. I'm sure you will get more info when you see the doc. I am so ready for a fill. I am so tired of being hungry. I go to the doc on 12/20 and I will get a fill. I hope everyone is doing well. Jill

Banded 11/02/07
Cassandra, What a great weight loss! I am only down 5 pounds since surgery on the 20th. I was only on liquids for 2 days and then moved to soft foods. What type of diet did your Doc have you on after surgery? Jill

First Fill
Hi all, My first fill will be on 12/20 and I can't wait. I'm tired of being hungry. I am eating much less than before but I have no restriction. I know the 1st month is about healing but I'm ready to live a normal life with the band. My band is the small AP band that has some fill in it but my doc removed the fill during surgery. I wish now he would have left it in. Mary, yes a fill is the same as an adjustment. The doc inserts saline into the port to make the opening to the main part of the stomach smaller so that food flows through slowly and we are full with much less food. That is a very basic description. Good luck to all getting fills. Jill

Post Band Blues
I have only been banded for 2 weeks and boy have I been emotional. I had no idea how much I was hiding behind food. I've cried more in the last 2 weeks than I've cried in a long time. I knew that I used food to comfort me but didn't realize how much I did it. I believe that these feelings will come and go forever as it is part of life. The difference is that we can't cover it up with food anymore. We must learn to cope like "normal" people.

Nervous about eating...moving to soft foods
Lauri, I had scrambled eggs one morning and they were very good. I only made 1 egg so I couldn't over eat.

Nervous about eating...moving to soft foods
I am also nervous to try anything new on mushies. I seem to be sticking to full liquids rather than mushies. One night I did have fish and green beans. It was good but I chewed it to death. That should count as part of my exercise! LOL I eat refried beans and mashed potatoes and other than that it is still yogurt, pudding, SF popsicles, juice and broth. I am so scared I will over eat. When I first had the refried beans I did eat too much so I now I am nervous.

Is anybody hungry???
Kristin, I am truly LOL right now. I did not name by band. TOM stands for time of month. Maybe I should name by band though.

Do you hate to eat?
Being 9 days post-op I find eating "scary." I don't know how my band will react. Of course I am on mushies but that includes baked fish and cooked veggies which I had last night. It went down fine. I know I don't have any restriction yet because I don't have a fill but I still get nervous with every bite and sip. At the moment I do hate eating which I never thought would be possible.

Continuous "Sliming"

Pre-op diet and MURDER - I need a straightjacket!
I didn't think I could ever live without my Diet Coke. People have always told me to give it up and I've always told them I would die before I would give it up. I haven't had one in 9 days and I am surviving. I had a headache the 1st night after surgery but I drank some tea and it helped. I am totally off of caffeine now and it actually feels good. Of course, it was easier to give up after surgery. I'm not sure if I could have done it before surgery. I teared up the night before surgery when I opened my last Diet Coke. I had a little ceremony. It was one of the saddest moments of my life. You will survive!

Is anybody hungry???
I have been really hungry the last few days and then last night I started my period and today I am not hungry at all. I've barely eaten anything. It is so weird. I actually know I have a band now. The fact the hunger is gone makes TOM worth it.
-
It has been one week....
Oops! I am 9 nine days post-op, not 8.

It has been one week....
I'm 8 days out and I feel great. I still have some pain at the port site but it isn't too bad. I was hungry the last few days but now I know it was PMS. TOM hit last night and today I've had no hunger. I can barely eat. I actually know I have a band now and this is without a fill. I had some yogurt for Breakfast and it took like an hour to eat it. For lunch I had a few bites of refried Beans. I am having some chicken broth now. I had been eating every few hours the last few days and I have to admit I am so happy the hunger is gone. It actually makes TOM worth it. I've only had 16 oz of H2O and I know I've got to get more in so I will work on that for the rest of the day. Debbie, I'm so sorry you are having a rough time. I promise it will get better. Take your pain meds, they will help.

Who's benig banded on 11/20???
Hi everybody, I too have hunger pangs every few hours. I've heard from some people that they were hungry at all for the first month. I was hungry 3 days after surgery. I eating something small like a pudding cup or yogurt when I get hungry and that helps.

Thanksgiving stories
I was only 2 days post-op so I had some broth and some mashed squash casserole and runny mashed potatoes. It didn't bother me a bit. I stayed out of the kitchen while my mom and sister ate so I wasn't tortured by seeing my favorite meal. We have the same thing at Christmas so I can have a small portion of my favorites.

Who's benig banded on 11/20???
Karmen, That is great that you are not having any pain. I don't know how all of you on a liquid diet for so long are coping. I was only on liquids for 2 days and then on to mushies for 4 weeks.
