  1. I had my surgery in October of 2014 and I do not take a purple pill every day anymore. I do take them on occasion when I feel I may be eating a food that may not agree with my sleeve....

Learned a valuable Lesson last night

So, I am almost a year out and I took my son to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. I know I can't eat anything fried. I know I cannot eat anything that has too much spice because it will cause instant heartburn that won't go away for HOURS. I ordered a salad and I ordered the naked chicken - I had a bit of the salad and a piece of the chicken. Without even thinking, I grabbed a fried pickle and then another and yet another. 20 minutes later I was standing on the side of the highway getting sick to my stomach. My poor son was mortified. Humiliating because I know better and because he had to witness me getting sick. However, I do firmly believe that I deserved it. I have fought a long hard battle and I have lost 100 pounds. I have never been healthier. I have never been in better physical shape since I am walking about 7 miles every day. I know what my body likes and can tolerate. Oh - and my son has sworn off fried pickles so maybe this was a win after all.....
  3. Had a gastric sleeve in late October and just had my gall bladder removed at 7:45 pm last night. The pain compared to the sleeve is non existent - I took a tylenol at the hospital this morning and I haven't taken any since. The worst part is the gas bubble but nothing like the one from the surgery for the sleeve. The surgeon offered to do the gall bladder in 3-4 weeks, but my attitude was - I am already here and I do not want to feel that pain anymore. I am glad it is behind me now as I am already healing. Good luck!

    Throwing up.

Brian - I was sleeved in October - I cannot eat ANYTHING with a cooked tomato in it. I get ill instantly. I have recently gone back to Protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and I am eating plain chicken for dinner. I do find that I have trouble realizing that my pouch is full sometimes and this was a mini reset for my system. I would call the doctor if you are unable to hold any solid foods. Good luck.
  5. Congrats! Hubby and I made the decision to this together - I was sleeved in October and he was sleeved in January. He is down 55 and it is such a great experience to be going through together! So proud of your accomplishments and I have to say that I am training for a half marathon and my hubster is working out every day so he as full rotation for his golf swing. Be so proud of yourself and your accomplishment. This is a great tool to get your life back. Enjoy the spring and always remember we are all here to support you and each other. Way to go!

    Sleeve countdown!

There is no freaking out! Yes that first 24 hours is a bit uncomfortable and you are only human - you will doubt yourself until you are in the OR and under the good sleepy stuff. I have to be honest - the hardest part for me was the gosh darn gas bubble and the moronic fool in the next room who was having a party with his family. I do believe that when I finally was able to expel some of the gas bubble I may have scared them into leaving. The surgery was by far the best decision I have made in the past 20 years and I am so happy to say that my primary care doctor was so supportive of my decision. She is my champion. I have more energy - my children are benefitting from the healthier eating and my husband is having the surgery on the 8th of January. I am so happy you are making this choice for yourself. I am a firm believer in this surgery and I have finally lost the baby weight (15 years later but hey, who's counting). Stephie and ShineShine - ask me anything you want any time - I am an open book and I have no issues sharing and congrats on making this decision
  7. My thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. I am glad to know you're in the right place and while I know you don't want to be there, at least you are getting the iv and you need those fluids. Stay safe and be strong.

    Why Gastric Sleeve?

I went to the seminar thinking I was going to do the lap band and after watching my doctor talk about the options, I was more interested in the sleeve. The amount of people that I have encountered at his office switching from the band to the sleeve is astronomical - to be honest I would say the majority of the people I met before the surgery were switching. I liked the fact that nothing really changed in my body except that a portion of my stomach was removed. I don't have a foreign object in my body like the band and I am very happy with my decision. You need to research and spend the time looking at what will be best for you. At least you're looking and you're going to take a step toward a healthier and happier you! Good luck.

    Post op

Best of luck! My dogs sleep with me every night (it is a horrible habit I cannot seem to break but they keep me so warm) and they don't like my gurgling belly very much. They may not like it but they don't mind the extra long walks every day that they have been getting.

Two week diet for surgery on...

My dear sir - you need to remember that this site is all about support and answers. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed and I may be ignorant to a lot of things, but I can tell you that my own children, who are very much your age, are my life. I am so excited that you are doing this "reset" at your young age because it will set you up with confidence that cannot be matched by anything else. I can tell you from my own experience that thus far the decision to sleeve was the best one I have made in a long time. I continue to cook for my family and feed them healthier choices every night. I may not be eating what they are, but I am setting them up to be healthier. Tonight they had a Pasta dish and I had zucchini thinly shredded and heated up in chicken broth to make it more mushy. They had a light garlic cheese sauce and I had a tablespoon of ricotta cheese mixed into my zucchini pasta. My daughter ended up forgoing the pasta and had some of my zucchini - which I couldn't eat all of it anyway I think you are so brave to do this. I believe in you.

Two week diet for surgery on...

Congratulations on your sleeve! Pain is different to every person and it is something that no one can determine but you. Remember to be honest with the staff and let them know if you need anything. The meds will be distributed through your IV anyway so you don't have to worry about ingesting them - if you need them when you are home you will have to crush them and mix them with Water (yuck...) You will be surprised at how soon you will be up and walking about and you will do wonderful. You have to remember you are doing this to reset your life and you are blessed to be able to do it so young. I wish you nothing but great success and I am confident that you will be so happy with yourself by the time you get home. Stay strong and always be safe.

    Gas pain, please help!

Same thing for me with no pain from surgery but the pressure from the gas bubble. I took a hot shower in the hospital and for some reason it was the signal for my body to start to release the bubble. I used a heating pad over the bubble for 2 days and continued to walk until it finally all dissipated. I do feel for you.
  14. I had my surgery on the 25th and I felt no pain from the surgery but that bloody gas bubble was enough to make me want to strangle every single person that walked by my room. I walked as much as I could with that lovely IV drip and as soon as I got home I started to walk the neighborhood. My dogs have never loved me so much as they do now. By the 4th day out I felt human and then for fun I weighed myself. The pain is temporary and the number on the scale will make you happy. Stay strong - and concentrate on getting home to feel better. All the best wishes!

    ARRRGGGGHHHHH! my mother #$)&(*U#)(*

I hate that some mama's feel the need to better their daughters. Regardless of the put downs, MarieMarie, you are beautiful and weight is just a number. My own mother, who is my neighbor, feels the need to let me know if she likes what I wear to work everyday. I think tomorrow I am going to go out in my husbands boxer briefs and a tank top. HA!
