Then he MUST have seem patients who had lost a lot of weight before. Or are you the first one? Confusing, if he's part of the team. Then he should not be shocked or repulsed by lots of excess skin.

Hi RJ, What about telling your story on something like gofundme.com? People are able to donate money to you to help with what you need. I know people that were able to raise money to cover things that are not nearly as important as your needs. Good luck!

Just started my process, and I have to do 3 months of a medically supervised diet. My first appt is Oct. 17th for that, but I saw my surgeon last Tuesday, so the ball has started rolling..
I have a lot of Dr. Appts coming up!

Chrystee reacted to Indigo1991 in What makes you say "feck 'em"?
Had my surgery in April 2013 and my life is unrecognisable from then until now. My mind is unrecognisable never mind my body, lol. I am happy and nothing in life is a problem...
Luckily for me that's what keeps me smiling when an acquaintance repeatedly tells mutual friends she is just waiting for me to "pile the weight back on".
Hell will be freezing over before I give her the satisfaction of seeing me gain a pound. But what a sad life she must have if taking pleasure in waiting for someone to fail is the highlight of her life.
The old me would have fretted about whether she might have a point. The new me says "feck her". And if she ever says it to my face, that's the gist of what I will say to her. Not very sophisticated - but I think it would be very effective in shutting her up once and for all!

October 2nd is getting closer and I am getting really nervous about meeting with the surgeon for initial consultation. I keep asking myself if this is what I really want to do. The answer is back and forth. I don't want to have to go through the surgery but I also don't want to be dying at an early age. I don't want to live a life of pain and misery like I have been. This surgery is a must.

Thank you iheartz. I am very excited and I would not be able to do this without the support of my family friends and most of all my boyfriend. These forums have helped me out so much. I have the app on my phone so I read through them many times throughout the day. So glad that I can come here for support as well.

Chrystee reacted to AutumnPunkin in Excess skin - warning photos
So today I was asked about excess skin. So I wanted to share my skin. Warning there are photos of me in my bra.
    So a little about me.
I had gastric bypass on Halloween 2013.
    Hw: 333 pounds
    Surgery weight: 283 pounds
    Current weight: 180 pounds
Estimated excess skin weight from doctor: 20 pounds
    Height 5 foot 6 inches
Size 10 stretchy, size 12 regular fit, size 14 tight fit.
    Size M shirts
    Size WHEN I started 4xl
I will try to attach some before, after and skin photos.
    Goal weight 140-150 pounds.
Goal life: healthy, and live life to the fullest
I wanted to share these because I look not so bad with clothing. I don't like having the excess skin, but it doesn't define me.
Remember it can take up to two years for skin to shrink.
I am not ashamed of my excess skin. Do I wish it was gone, yes I do, but life unhealthy was much worse
I hope this does not deter you to lose weight and have this surgery, because this life is so much better and it is worth it!
Let me know if you have any questions
I will likely do this again when I hit goal weight. As you can see in the below pictures, I still have a lot of adipose tissue in the skin, so I am sure it will get better
    Cheers!

Alex, I'm glad you were featured. But the article would have been so much better if they focused on more success stories like yours and how you made the band work for you. To me the article was too negative. It's true that it's not an easy fix and there can be complications. But it IS a fix and many compliant banders find their lives totally transformed, all for the better. Anyway, although I would have liked the article to be more positive, it was still a good way to get some info out to the public. And you look fit and fantastic!!!!

16 pounds in first month. I'm 6 weeks today and down 18. Lost 4 inches off my waist- that means as much to me as the overall pounds.

    To the OP:
I think you've got your research straight and your head on straight about this.
I would not have chosen the bypass route for myself. I started at 235 pounds and am 5'5". Didn't want or need lifelong malabsorption, anemia, potential reactive hypoglycemia, or more potential complications.
    Go for the sleeve.
Only one little caveat -- is everyone but you in your neighborhood getting a bypass because the local surgeon has a lot more bypass surgery experience and not so much sleeve experience? If that's the case, I'd be a little nervous. What you want is a surgeon who has beaucoups experience and success doing the surgery YOU will have. Just a thought.

My surgeon's office submitted my paperwork to my insurance company on Tuesday. I just got off the phone with the lady from the insurance company - I've been approved for surgery! TWO DAYS FOR APPROVAL!
I'm so glad - and now I'm nervous. Naturally.

Hello I agree with everyone else suggestions about discussing this with the medical team also being in the medical field is not a keep your hands clean job for most so the people working with patients should be behaving in a PROFFESSIONAL manner which doesn't include "looks" or "faces" or "comments" after all stress changes in hormones etc can make periods come on unexpectedly and if someone landed in a hospital due to an injury or accident and were to be having a menstral cycle they would have to deal with it so they need to suck it up do their job and act professional and don't let staff treat u disrespectfully its the last thing someone needs in a hospital in pain and all that comes with surgery however having said that u must consider how u will feel with the discomfort of surgery and side effects if u are willing or will be able to deal with that as well good luck with everything

    Hi ladies!
I am pre-op and currently go to my CF box at least 4-6 times a week, plus I bike, swim, etc..
I am looking at the surgery in January.. I just hope I dont lose a bunch of strengthe couple weeks I'm off.. My surgeon said I should be able to go back in 2-3 weeks, and be fully recovered in 4. I'm hopeful.. I LOVE crossfit.
I also lost 50 pounds a couple years ago due to CF, paleo, whole 30, and lots of cardio, but I got pregnant (surprise, thought we were infertile) and then gained it back plus some, and I just can't get back under 300.

My personal trainer just came by to take measurements and percentages - in the last year, on top of losing 96 pounds (so far), I've lost over 25 inches around my whole body and I've dropped 8% in body fat just since May. What a great way to start the day!! Happy Thursday everyone!
