    OCTOBER 2014

@Glydalin Thanks for sharing your daily meal. I'll check out the Bariwise. I have been eating some Quest bars but I must say the novelty is wearing off. I have about 1/2 a bar for Breakfast with an egg. But surprisingly an egg only has 6 gr of Protein and beef only 7 gr per ounce. If all I can eat is a couple ounces it ends up grossly inadequate. 3 meals, even if protein based are not enough. Lately I have been having about 3 to 4 ounces which helps. I also have the yogurt which is 12 gr. To make a long story short, I get about 50 gr per day most days.

@@misstvb I feel your pain, I too wonder if I am going to go bald. I am glad I have a lot of hair to start with but I would say given the size of my pony tail, I have about 1/2 as much hair as I used to. I had been growing my hair out since last summer's pixie cut but I think am going to have to go back. I had noticed it was falling but this last week has been crazy. After coming out of the shower while applying product on my hair, my hands were full. Now I'm afraid to touch it.

@@Glyndalin Yes, getting all the Protein is hard. First I am not hungry, except when I have not eaten in hours and I get a bit of the shakes (low blood sugar, I think) and have to eat something pronto. The early signs are that I start dropping things. Like yesterday, I dropped the car keys 3 times in a row. Butter fingers! What are you doing to get all the needed protein? @@smiley922 Working on your tan in style!

    hair replenishment

Have been taking Biotin and Zinc since two month mark and I am now near the six month mark. My hair is falling at an alarming rate. If it helped in the past, I don't know but it sure doesn't right now.

Update on the hair loss thing: Looks like it has arrived, I am losing hair at an alarming rate and I have thin Patches at the temples showing. I am also developing dandruff, which I have not suffered from in so many years I had forgotten it even existed. I am thinking time for a pixie haircut. I do take Biotin and zinc (since month 2) but nope, it's not helping. I think this is supposed to be temporary but right now it's a little worrisome. How is everyone's hair doing?

The scale moved, hurray. But I had to eat one of those Protein bars yesterday (not a fav) and I was a very good girl with all sorts of protein. Beef Jerky also helped. I am going to look into how to make it because I sure need an ample supply and the natural brands (without all the strange ingredients) have just a few flavors and I am getting tired of "Oberto" Teryiaki flavor already. Thank you for the kind words everyone. I need to pull through and being sad is going to get me in that depressive hole, I never want to go to. Today will be a better day. I am up early, I am dressed and I have a plan for my day that includes me time.

Thanks, everyone. I am going to try more protein. I am not getting enough. I eat protein at every meal but I added the average day and it's not enough. I think I am going to supplement in the short term and will have to eat even more meats. I am going to try that for a week and see if I notice any improvement. Yuck! I had a soccer game to take a child to, stopped at two places on the way home and I have to go take a nap and it's only 11:30 AM.

    OCTOBER 2014

Hi everyone, I didn't vanish. Just been a little depressed. Turns out I have not lost any weight in so long (3 weeks) and I don't feel as good as I used to. I run out of energy way too quickly and even exercising gets me so tired I think I am going to pass out. I have blood work next week and the 6 month appointment at the end of the month. Let's see what they say. I think I have lost muscle mass because now I can hardly carry anything. I am sad. I thought the worst was behind me. Perhaps it was my fault I didn't exercise as much as I should have early on but I just could not. I think when I lost 40 pounds I felt amazing but since losing 80 lbs I feel worst. Now I can only do anything physical for short amounts of time and I have to take a break. One hour of gardening is all I can handle. I do look good though. I am wondering if it's a low blood sugar thing or low Protein. My blood work was fine at the 3 month check up. Not sure what to do.

@Luna922 I didn't realize you stall has been for this long. I think you should go see your NUT. I think you and your medical team need to look at it with fresh eyes. Stalls are common but when they are this long I think it's time to re-evaluate. Good luck and stay strong. This too shall pass.

Realized this morning I am on the verge of 5 months past surgery. The 28th is the day but here's the wonderful thing, I am also on the verge of 80 lbs gone. I'm 190.6 this morning from a high of 270lbs. I have 2 days to lose 0.6 of a pound. I think it's possible. Yesterday to get my mind off my tummy issues I went into a store looking for something for spring. I was looking for a fun dress or shirt. The dressing room was rather bright and for the first time since my significant weight loss, I took a very good look at my face. I have some serious wrinkles that weren't there before. The smile curved lines that look like ( ) around my mouth are really deep. Yikes! Another battle wound for my gladiator armor.

Feeling a little better today. Stomach still hurts but I have been drinking a lot of herbal tea. The warm liquid helps. Yesterday all I ate was a yogurt and a few crackers. @@ShonIsLove Sometimes taking a Vitamin also upsets my tummy. My Nut told me it's because of the Iron in the multi vitamin. I have been taking my morning vitamin with one saltine cracker everyday. I take it first thing in the morning in order not to forget and Breakfast usually come an hour later or so. Try that, hope it helps.

    OCTOBER 2014

After dinner last night I was the sickest I have ever been since surgery. Violent nausea and throw up for over an hour. I even had to keep drinking because I had to fill my stomach with something. The pain was significant. After battling for what felt like an eternity, one hour is a long time, I finally fell into bed. I curled into a ball and didn't dare not move. After about 15 minutes the nausea passed. Has anyone had any terrible episodes like that? I am wondering if it was the corn I ate. I chewed really well but fresh (frozen in this case) corn does have a skin. They seemed like they would be small enough to go through. Also, I did have one small piece of chicken skin. It was homemade baked chicken and really crispy. I wonder if I didn't manage to chew it well enough. In any case, today I feel horrible and my entire tummy feels like it's on fire. Ouch!
  15. I did not have a revision. I had Bypass and I love it. My blood work is fine and I don't have any malabsorption issues at this point. I don't have GERD either. I made this choice in part because I had pre-diabetes and the bypass has the best prognosis for remission. If I was already on my way to diabetes of course I wanted to avoid insulin shots if at all possible. Good luck. Your acid sound wicked, so sorry. Its hard right now but you will get there.

@@amylynns Loved your story about the shower and your shopping experiences. That's fantastic. I could really relate. Shopping and looking great is such a new thing for us. You are now at a point were weight has become a non-issue. Before our surgeries we were defined by ourselves and others because of our weight. Now we can be defined by who we are. You are hot when you feel it and wear it. In other words, we are taking the power back into our lives. Nothing feels as powerful as that. Everyone of us can be who we are without a black cloud over out heads.

  19. My medical team said weight loss is different from individual to individual and it's not linear. If we think about everyday has a different energy burn rate. Some days I move lots, others not so much. It would follow that even if my caloric intake was exactly the same everyday (which is not) I would have different rates of weight loss. I try to keep it within 200 calories difference but at the same time I do not want to become a calorie counting addict. Trust me it's possible. Been there! I have read many articles regarding how we lose weight after WLS. Even though a stall is a term, not losing any weight for days and even weeks does happen. It's horrible to go through because every time it happens you think you will not be able to accomplish your goals but soon after the scale moves again. I have had so many stalls and it's not all related to what I eat. Because I recall a few days ago, I had two Hawaiian bread rolls one day (not all at once but a bite at a time with each meal)) and lost a pound that day. I had not lost any weight in a few days at that point. So, was it a miracle Hawaiian bread diet? I think not. Next day, I continued my plan and I have lost weight everyday.
  20. OMG ! WHY, OH WHY didn't I have this surgery sooner? Stupid fear and self hate. The notion that I should be able to lose the weight on my own really had me hostage. Hello, I could not. I sure tried, hundreds of times. But I do tell you something, it wasn't all self control because now I am not hungry all the time and I do have self control. If this is the way everyone else feels about food no wonder I could have never made it on my own.

Shadow429 Lol, some people go to extraordinary lengths for a little flashing. I too had a pants fell right off moment. Something my Doctor, RN and Nut all said that really helped me. "We have to have a good relationship with food." It is both a source of sustenance and pleasure. And as such it has to remain true for the rest of our lives, especially if we are to be successful. It's like any relationship. There must be balance. Yes, we are going through the weight loss portion of our journey and this year to 18 months will have many challenges but if we are to become well adjusted individuals our happiness will also depend on food. Let's not lose sight of that everyone. Right now we are trying to lose massive amounts of weight but we always want to love food. I'm okay if all I can have is 1/4 of a Lindt chocolate truffle. But if I say I can't have one of those ever again, a little of me will die. Now, that's not the same as, this makes me sick and I won't eat it ever again. Well, I'll gladly give that one up. I want to love me, just not love me to death with a bunch of food.

@@joankrie I have gotten mysterious out of the blue nausea attacks. I did figure out why they happened. Too much fat will make me sick. I was told dumping with higher fat content foods can happen an hour after you eat. Sugar dumping is much faster. Within 10 to 15 minutes of eating. So I figured out the high fat content food does it. Another thing that did get me was eating a little too fast. Once with a strawberry. I (sorryTMI) did see the chunky piece and I think it had gotten stuck. The other time it was with pulled pork. The bbq sauce was too sweet and perhaps the pork had too much fat. Some of us will be very sensitive to fat others not so much. Same with sugar. For example, if I eat a meal and then have a tiny bite of chocolate as desert, I am fine. But if I have not eaten in 3 hours and I take a bite, wow. It's like the sugar goes into me at 100 miles per hour. Trying to figure out all the ins and outs of this surgery sometimes is like trying to hit a moving target. Challenging, no?
