  1. I had researched all of this for the last 5 years. Back then my insurance wouldn't cover anything. Over those 5 years, I just got worse until my pulmonary doctor again recommended trying for it again. Thank god it was covered ($5000) deductible and copay first, but I as ready. I knew what surgeon I wanted from research and was comfortable with going forward. I had lost 100+ lbs twice over the last 20 years and always put it back on. I knew I needed something to keep me or in other words force me to eat right and not over eat. RNY was my only choice as far as I was concerned. My surgeon agreed. I had RNY on August 11,2014 and just 5 weeks out ( counting two week liquid pre op diet) or 3 weeks since surgery, I have gone from 400lbs to 347lbs. In just those 5 weeks, I can breathe much better and walk in stores without being out of breath and dropped 1 shirt size and 1 pant size already! I am not hungry, no complications , and eat what I am supposed to until I feel the sense of enough. I am so happy I can't describe it. I still have a long way to go but I have no doubts I have a tool now to keep me honest. I am 5' 10"" and 57 years old. Before this I knew I was going to die literally. I worried if I would be here next year. I actually feel reborn. If you are severely over weight the RNY is the only way to go in my opinion. I have really come to terms with how I will have to eat for the rest of my life and I am comfortable with it. I know that was long winded so I will stop now.

    How did you tell people?

I told all of my family and others as I felt like it . I feel I have saved my life so it doesn't bother me to tell. I have received no negative responses. Always have been good or curious about it and they ask questions.
