Gendy got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Severe Heartburn
I am a little over 3 years post op from Gastric Sleeve. Around the 3 year mark, I started getting severe heartburn, and nothing is helping. I was on 80 mg of Nexium a day and it barely made a dent in the heartburn, but I had sever side effects. I'm now being told by a Gastroenterologist it's because of the sleeve and my only option is to get a Roux-en-y. Has anyone else heard of this?

Veronica, don't worry about the stall. I had mine for a week and today got on the scale and was down 2 lbs. Everyone seems to be stalling, so don't worry about it. You will get past this. Keep your chin up!

Gendy got a reaction from nurseforlapband in Band to Sleeve patients lose less?
I asked my doctor about band to sleeve patients losing less and he had a very good reply. Most people when they get the band, were larger then when they get to sleeve. The bigger you are, the faster you will initially lose the weight. Also, most people who start a totally new diet are initially really good at it and stick with it. Once you've been on it for awhile you have a tendency to be more lax, meaning when you initially get the band, you were more strict with yourself then when you get sleeve you may not be as strict.
I hope I'm explaining as good as it was explained to me, because it really made sense. I'm still going ahead with the sleeve and will try very hard to be as strict with it as I was initially with the band.

I had to be on liquids 2 weeks before surgery, Clear Liquids while in the hospital, regular liquids for 2 weeks, pureed for 2 weeks, soft food for 2 weeks then finally regular food. I am so sick of Protein Shakes, even trying to mask the taste. But tomorrow I start pureed foods, I can't wait.
I'm down 20 lbs since before my pre-op diet. I think I may be at a stand still, but I haven't started exercising yet. I hope to next week. So hopefully I will be able to get back on the losing track.
Does anyone feel a tightness in the chest if they drink too fast? I do and want to know if that is normal. Is that the restriction everyone talks about?

1 week post op down 15lbs since surgery. I noticed that becoming creative with your Protein Drinks really help a lot. Start with a good Protein mix (whey) whether its amp max premier lean body jay robs Isopure find your match this is important. Next Google protein recipes your interested in you must shop for all ingredients and follow the recipe to the T. Make sure your measuring right and for the liquid part try and use real milk (non fat 1% 2%etc) because that's what has the most protein in it. I use lactaid free with Calcium (yellow top blue container)(has 10g of protein in 1 serving that's a lot and that's just to liquify your shake. Another key important rule I have learned is GREEK YOGURT! CHOBANI IS 20G PROTEIN for a cup! That's 30g protein without p. powder already. Next have fun in the frozen fruit in fresh fruit aisle also spice n flavor booster aisles... Buy SF Carmel, sf vanilla, pumpkin spice, chai, decaf instant coffee add some to a dark choc recipe and bam your very own mocha FRAP. Or pumpkin/chair frap, also key lime pie protein drinks you only need, lime lemon juice and non fat cool whip for this recipe (I also bought 50%reduced fat graham cracker pie crust) to add to it to give it a more pie like flavor. You have to make the best out of this liquid stage. Even if it's a little higher in sugar than recommended. The key importance is getting fluids and protein in. You can always make good sugar choices though for example I use stevia in the raw to add sweetness and plain Greek chobani yogurt vs. Vanilla flavored. You can also get SF Torani syrups and Starbucks syrups online. For Soups get creative. I like going to restaurants every day for what I feel is a treat getting anywhere from a lobster bisque, clam chowder to even chili from Wendy's go home heat it up then blend the hell out of it so there's no lumps or bumps. My NUTRITIONIST SAID... AS long as it runs off your spoon with ease its considered a liquid! Even if its potato buds in a box thinned out with milk/water or buttery cream of wheat thinned out with Water. When you master the art of liquefying you'll be so much happier n satisfied. I promise hope this helps cause it's helped me. Also Popsicles with the cream on the inside is a good treat and lactaid free low sugar ice cream with a splash of milk in the blender is so satisfying. We have already been deprived of no texture food until about month two/3 so let's make the best of it. Also I hear the Bariatric Advantage chews(chewies)not gummies for a multi Vitamin option are the best they come in choc. Peanut Butter n orange flavor. Good luck

    Had my sleeve 1/5/15.
For the gas bubbles. I walked and walked. I am sure you heard the walking speech. But it is the answer to letting go of those bubbles.
Yesterday was a yucky day for me. Protein shake I tried didn't set well. Today is a much better day.
Still feel lonely. Can't really vent to much at home. Hubby thinks you made your bed now....
But thank goodness I found this app.

I had my surgery on Wednesday 1/7/15 and am feeling pretty good today. Really haven't had much gas pain. My problem is that I'm not hungry or thirsty. I don't want to get dehydrated but have to desire to eat or drink anything. Doctor wants me to get in 60-80 grams of Protein a day. Not happening. Anyone else not hungry yet?

Baked yellow squash and steamed pureed cauliflower were my 2 favorites. But Frankensleeve really didn't like them for some reason. So I wound up eating a lot of refried beans... good thing I live alone!!!! AROMA!

Gendy got a reaction from BeagleLover in Your thoughts on my success to have sleeve earlier than 12 weeks post removal of Band
I have to wait 6 weeks before my sleeve after having my band removed. It goes fairly quick. I did gain 5 pounds before going on my liquid diet, but I really tried to watch what I ate so I would gain a bunch of weight. My surgery is 1/7/15.
My doctor said they do have a better success rate with waiting between band removal and getting the sleeve, less chance for leeks.
    Good Luck to you.

You may want to check your employers requirements. You may have to tell them when you are out for surgery and may need a doctors excuse to come back to work. I just told my employer that I'm having issues and need to have surgery. It's none of their business what is wrong with me. My surgery is 1/7/15. Good Luck to you!

Warm liquids help you feel full for a little while...try some fasting tea or flavored broth. Most of all, keep busy! Distracting yourself is the best way. During my pre op I would munch on low carb veggies to help stave off the need to chew. Celery and cucumbers with done zero cal ranch dressing was my go to when I couldn't stand it any more.

I lost 40 lbs before surgery and the intake nurse at the hospital actually tried to talk me out of having the surgery saying I didn't have that much to lose. I literally wanted to hit her. She had no idea of what I had already gone through in my life of weight loss struggles. I had 70 more pounds to lose and wanted it to stay off forever. I was approved for surgery by the surgeon and by my provincial health care plan, so really it was no ones business but my own. And that's exactly what I told the nosy nurse in January of 2014.
I am now 11 months post op and am at 145lbs. 5 lbs from my goal. I wear size 5/6 jeans and can share clothes with my 16yo daughter. As opposed to the size 24 pants I wore previously.
So really, just because we are lightweights, doesn't mean we don't matter or that we don't "deserve" surgery. We have our own struggles and weight related health problems. ( we also have feelings too)

So, I didn't really ask for anything for Christmas, I always feel so awkward when my family asks what I want. So I'll just say something along the lines of socks, undergarments, etc.
However, I've had a very eye opening Christmas surprise!
My parents both work full time and usually when we talk I felt like anything about my surgery was going in one ear and out the other. I mean I knew they understood the basics of what I could and couldn't eat but I figured that was it. I don't mean to say they don't listen, they do. I just feel like I was talking about all of it in passing. Like, "After surgery I can't eat that, or after surgery I can't take certain over the counter meds."
Well, at midnight on Christmas Eve my parents surprised me with a really awesome blender! I'm talking a professional future accident because I'm a klutz sharp blender.
My parents exact words, "We got you this because we knew you had to follow a post op liquid and pureed diet after surgery. This will make it easier compared to the other blender. Plus it has on the go cups!"
I literally cried. I mean I didn't even think about a blender for post op! (We own one already that isn't even a year old) I just can't believe my parents. I really can't. I haven't even gotten my surgery date yet! I'm still waiting for my insurance company to mail my approval letter!
Well, if my surgery doesn't go as planned or I end up arguing with insurance at least I've got a really awesome blender!

When i finally got to real food, i was almost scared to eat. Then, I realized my tastes had changed. It was a sad feeling, to not enjoy food anymore. But, what i always tell people is take advantage of the bad early weeks and months to work on changing your relationship with food. It is temporary.
I am 3 years out, love everything again. I love being trim even more than food so I work pretty hard to maintain my 160# weight loss! It is so worth it.
