My BMI was 30 on the day I had surgery on 8th September 2014. My BMI is now 25, I have had no complications after surgery and the loss has been slow and steady. I love my sleeve.

My BMI was 30, the cutoff for sleeve surgery here in Australia. My surgery was on the 8th September 2014 and is the best thing I have ever done. My recovery was easy and the weight has just come off slowly but surely. My BMI is now 22 and I feel healthy and happy.

I had my surgery in the 8th September last year. My BMI was 32 on the day of surgery. To date I have lost 44 pounds and feel great. There have been some stalls but i feel so much healthier now. I make good food choices most of the time but still enjoy my food ( just not as much of it) .

I was a BMI of 30 on my day of surgery last September. I only told two people, hubby, of course and a work colleague. I did have issues with some of the nurses who kept telling me that I shouldn't have surgery as I wasn't fat!! I recovered from surgery really well and have had a slow steady weight loss. I've not had any regrets. Oh my BMI is now a healthy 23.

I'm in Australia and its a little different here. I attended one appointment in September 2014, had a BMI of 30.4 and was booked in for VSG surgery one month later. I did not have any other medical issues of note. I've not had any problems with my recovery and have lost 20 kilograms so far. I now have a BMI of 23.6. I feel extremely lucky especially when I read all of the issues and costs (hoops you have to jump through in America). I wish you all luck with your surgeries wherever you are in the world. x

Midemali, crazy question. How much in pounds do you weigh? Sounds like you are doing awesome by your bmi. You were very lucky living there and not having to wait the times we have to in the U.S. my insurance is like most here, 6 months. Very frustrating for sure. My mother got hers done immediately too due to a life threatening reason. Almost unheard of here. But the reason for her gastric bypass(hers) was a need for extra skin on her stomach because of an extremely large hernia. She had to go to another state too to have done because of her situation too. With her not going through the classes and nutritionist, she was very unaware of a lot. She was malnourished, and sick almost every meal due to not understanding the guidelines. But honestly, 3 months in most cases are all that should be the wait. That is plenty of time to learn the exercises, new ways of eating and drinking and all the other things involved.

My surgery is September 8. Just had my pre-op appointment with surgeon yesterday and everything is GO! My pre-op diet was optional but I'm doing 2 shakes a day and one light meal.
It's been such a long lead up to the surgery it seem like it won't ever get here. I started the process in May and insurance company require 3 months of diet counseling and a chat with a psychologist.
Now I'm getting the last bits together for post surgery liquids and cleaning out the fridge.

Hi luciana Victoria, I am so excited for you, I wish my surgery was tomorrow, it is booked in fi the 8 th of September. My surgeon feels the same as yours, just because I'm not morbidly obese, it still effects me on a daily basis. Please keep me updated with your progress.

I am so excited to read this post, my stats are very similar to yours 'nothing up my sleeve'. My surgery is on the 8 of September and I am so ready to finally stop this roller coaster I have been on. I can not believe that I will lose that sort of weight...

I'm so glad to read this thread.
I'm 5'6" - 35 yro (female) - my starting weight is around 200 lbs (give or take depending on the day) - I am having my sleeve in 2 days, Monday, August 18th, 2014. My doctor thinks 135 is a reasonable goal for me. He, and my therapist, both are advocates and speak at conferences that the sleeve is not just for the morbidly obese, but that people with lower BMI's, like mine at 31, can expect to have the best results and effects of this surgery. i've struggled for 5 years since having my first child and was always 135-140 my whole life, but could never get under 170 since my first daughter was born. I was happy to just be at 150 lbs as my goal, but my doctor said 130 - 135 lbs is what he would expect from me. I couldn't help but just cry in his office when he said this. The idea that this would be possible again just seems like a whole other time in a previous life I once had. To get back to this point seems almost impossible to even dream of.
Please feel free to connect with me! I don't expect this to be easy, but am looking forward to the extra help the sleeve will give as I make this final journey to my life-long new self and get back to the person formally known as... the real me. :- )

I was also marginal on BMI (34-35 or so). Surgery on 7/25/2014. I've been very happy with the results so far - even though it's only 3 weeks. I've added a chart showing the weight loss (from a Withings internet scale). Haven't been hungry at all, been a bit careless on the diet (tut!), but no pain or nausea..I think it's been a good choice. We'll see how it goes when I have to start travelling again...so good to hear about other people's journeys here.

I also started with at a lower weight, 208lbs in May 2013. I live in Europe and the doctor never suggested Protein Drinks or diets and I'm down to 124lbs. I know that my luck will come back to bite me in the ass, but for now I love my results. It has to be said, I don't eat much and make sure I get Vitamin supplements because I'm maybe too thin. I know that my weight will creep up in a couple of years so, I remain cautiously optimistic.
