  1. I am on day 3 of a 9 day pre-op diet. Yes, I have cheated, but am telling myself that it is so much less than my normal eating. I have had 6 animal crackers, and added 8 oyster crackers into my soup today. I also had about an ounce of roasted chicken last night and today. I need substance, even if it is just a bite! So much less than usual, my liver has to be shrinking!! I keep "planning" in my head some major cheating, then talking myself out of it. Today I told myself that I could have a last meal of a cheeseburger (no bun) and that seems to give me a goal for the next 8 days. Weather or not I'll do it, I can't say.
  2. yeah!! One week for me too! at this time I will be done with surgery and on my way to recovering! I cant believe its almost here!!
  3. I think its a great idea in small doses!! If its over-done, then its noticeable. Gardening is not on my list of fav.'s either!! I plant a couple new Hostas (?) every year, they are hearty and take up lots of space (= less weeding). I have that opposite green thumb thing too!
  4. Why are all the diets different??? I wish broth was on mine!! (throw the veggies in it and call it soup)! & the jello & popsicles too!
  5. Hi All! I am scheduled April 30th and am supposed to begin my pre op diet tomorrow. I swear, I am going to go back to school and become a dietitian. I had my pre op appointment last week and she told me to start the liquid diet "around the 22nd, a week b-4 surgery". She was not entirely clear about it and the whole day was alot of info to absorb. So I called today, b/c if I start on the 22nd, it would be 9 days, but a week is 7 days, and you know - PLEASE, DON'T MESS WITH A FAT GIRLS EATING!! If I did 9 days, and found out I had to do it for only 7, well that would be tragic! When I called today, she said I should be on it for 10 days & to start today! I still need to go to the grocery store!! So, I think I would like to go to school & become a dietitian, so I can get a job at a weight loss clinic to advise people like me! Because I get it! Any way, here is my pre op diet: 4 Protein drinks daily Include 6 servings per day from the following: 1 cup tomato or v-8 juice 1/2 cup hot Cereal 1 cup sugar free pudding 6 ounces low-sugar yogurt 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce fat free raw vegtables Water or sugar free beverages as needed HMMMM... the hot cereal would include warming up some coco krispies?? I could handle that haha!! Oh, I hope I can do this! I am so glad that others feel the same!! and are being successful too! it is so encouraging! Everytime I have doubts I come to this web site ! I love it too! good luck to all! :rolleyes2:
  6. Hi Detroitdame, I am an Eastsider and am getting my band on April 30th. My psych evaul never asked me about 'voices in my head' (and they were so looking forward to talking to him:lol:). But he did love to tell me about the 'shirt made of skin' I would be wearing once I lost weight. Such a kind man (not)! I am having my surgery done at St. John hospital with Dr. Katz. Hope everything goes smoothly for you! Keep us posted on your approval and date :frown:
  7. I agree on the age thing...can I always be a newbie please?????????????
  8. At what point are you NOT considered a Newbie to this forum? I read alot of posts/threads that point out the Newbies do alot of things they should not. Just wondering.
  9. I am wondering ~ do your feet shrink after you have lost alot of weight? I have stopped buying clothing (banded April 30), but should I stop buying shoes too? Before I was overweight, my feet were a size 6 1/2 - 7, now they are a 8.
  10. I went to Disney World this summer with my daughter and it was not easy. (fitting on rides, walking around). When I got home, I got serious about having the surgery. I want to go back again in 3 years, but I want it to be so much better! Those amusement parks really make you look at yourself don't they??? I am also becoming more and more embarassed about my weight, I don't seem to fit anywhere! I will be banded in 29 days:smile2:April 30!!
  11. If I ever have any on going problems of people messing with my home, I am for sure going to turn in to the crazy lady! I don't have a problem with that at all! I live in a small community and right now there are alot of empty homes (forclosures, 3 on my street of 12 houses) so I am always keeping my eyes open for anything that may compromise the saftey of my block. A few weeks ago it was one of those guys that puts junk store flyers on your porch - peeing on the back wall of one of the empty houses 2 doors down! I could see him plain as day out my family room window! I called the cops, and later got the flyer off my porch and called the store and let them know someone they hired was using my block as a public restroom! I call the police all the time ! you should too, and the school! I would keep at it until they moved the bus stop!! Also, keep all receipts of any repairs you have to make to fix what the kids damage and ask the school and parents where they want the bill sent to! Buy some of those large orange cones (like construction cones) and put them in your driveway every morning! Really be crazy and paint 'no school drop offs' on your garage door too! This kind of stuff burns me up!
  12. Wait a minute...so the crazy lady on the corner when I was a kid was NOT crazy?? Just keeping us off her property? What a hoot!
  13. Thank you for sharing and responding! I have been attending a RA group for the last few years, and I am by far the most overweight, & no one there has been heavy & lost to say if how much/if there is relief that comes with weight loss. Of course, all of my Dr.s are supportive of the lap band surgery. I am just wondering how much relief (if any) one might feel after loosing some weight. I have been heavy so long (really packed it on after onset of RA b/c I could no longer move much) I can't remember what its like to move without pain and fat getting in the way. I am not asking for 100% of my old self back. Just would like 50%. I am scheduled for surgery April 30th !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 29 days away!
  14. I told my counselor last night and all is well. I felt like a child who had lied to their mommy. (no wonder I'm in therapy). She was not mad, and did not seem overly concerned. She actually gave me some really great tips on how to get through a panic attack if it happens again! Thanks to all of you!
  15. I am so sorry for your loss. It is very sad and you have a right to mourn. I promise you things will get better. Do what feels right for you. Your boss is an ass & this did not happen b/c you are overweight!
  16. This has been up since November, 80 people have looked at it and no one can relate or has anything to say?

That post was way too funny! I'm (still) 39 and remember all that stuff! We got a commodore computer when I was about 15. remember dot-matrix printing? Remember when the phone had a cord ? My mom would call us in the room just so we could hang up the phone for her! I too tape recorded off the radio and WOULD wait all day for a song! Anyone ever call the DJ over and over with a request? The car we had was a station wagon with a 3rd row, but it looked out the back window - we would hop all-over those seats and make faces at the people we were facing! I dont even think there were seat belts in the car!
  18. You did not say how much weight you lost, but I don't think its abnormal for anyone to loose a few lbs. during pregnancy espically in the beginning. Your body is using up energy to make your baby!! That's quite a workout! I'm not banded (april 30), but 5 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter, I never gained any weight, or I should say, any I gained one month, I would loose within the next and then some. (I would gain 4 and the next dr.s visit, loose 6). My morning sickness only lasted an hour or so 1st thing in the a.m., and after that I ate normally. As long as you are eating healthy and not loosing a drastic amount of weight, I would not worry about it. By the time she was born, I had lost about 8 lbs. and after her birth I lost another 20. Best diet I was ever on! Congrats on your pregnancy!!!
  19. I am so glad I posted this question!! THANK YOU all so much for the great advice! Virgo girl - you are right & DUH! on my part, of course the insurance would see the PA, so from here on out, I know they know. Lifechange82 - I am beginning to wonder if in the back of my mind its the surgery causing all my anxities, and I am making excuses. What happened when you had the attack 15 minutes before surgery? did they give you anything? was it really bad or manageable? How are you doing now with the lap band and are you still having panic attacks? To all - I have an appointment tonight with my counselor and I am going to tell her.
  20. Thanks for all the great advice! My surgery is on a Wednesday so my DH will take W,T,F off work plus the weekend. If I still need help after that I am lining up people to stop by and get him in/out of his crib in the a.m. and for naps. Currently he (baby) is working on going down the stairs and will hopefully have that mastered by 4/30! Here is another question - how soon after could you drive? Only 31 more days till my surgery:thumbup:
  21. I need to know what you all think I should do. I have a surgery date of April 30. I had a panic attack about 6 weeks ago. I thought I was having a heart attack and made my DH race home to take me to the hospital. It was a full blown PA. I was in the ER for 10 hours with blood work and ekg's ect.. I had just had my stress test pre lap band, and it was all fine. Anyway... I had also had my 1st of 2 visits with the shrink for the psych eval. The hospital gave me some valium and sent me home. A few days after the PA, I took my psych exam (500+ questions) and the next week I had my 2nd psych eval. And he passed me. I did not tell him about the panic attack, for fear it would keep me from getting this surgery. I also have been seeing a counselor for the last 5 years (1x a month) and I have not told her yet, she works in the same office as the shrink (he is her boss) and I am afraid she'll tell him and he will call the insurance and they will change their approval. Should I tell my counselor?? I don't think it is lap-band related. Honestly. As far as the surgery goes, I feel I am really at peace with it, even getting alot excited. At the time, many crazy things had been going on and one big thing pushed me over the edge. I also have a almost 5 year old DD and 17 month old DS and I am almost 40. AND I went from 2 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day down to 1 or 2 individual cigarettes a day. (currently 1 or 2 a week- just need to stop all together and be done with it). should I tell her after the surgery? I hate being a liar and I feel like I am leaving a big piece of my life out when I see her. I have an appointment tomorrow and I don't know if I should bite my tounge for 31 more days. Just wondering what others might do..... Thanks!
  22. I was told the same thing about the nicotine corroding the port and band by the shrink at my psych eval. I've been taking Chantix too and it is a miracle! I did not even want to quit when I started taking it! Now I cannot imagine being a smoker again. Hope I feel the same about WLS (scheduled for April 30).
  23. I am getting banded April 30th and everytime I get dressed I think, I won't be wearing this next season! I CAN'T WAIT!!! am I getting excited way to early? It makes me feel like a kid waiting for her birthday! I have 4 different sizes of jeans and jean shorts under my bed waiting to be worn again! (bathing suits too)! I have heard of a charity that helps women find jobs and dress for the interview - anyone know what the name of it is? I have a whole closet of work clothes that will need to go (I'm a SAHM and want to pass them on b-4 they go out of style)! When I do go back to work, they won't fit! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! congrats to all of you who are currently doing your spring cleaning!
  24. BandofHope, Your post went right to my heart. I am 39 and I feel so much like you do. A slave for food, thats me too. 5 3" and 270+ pounds. I will drive miles out of my way for food, and spend my last penny as well! My daughter goes to pre-school 3 1/2 days a week, and those days I hit the F.F. resturants and indulge myself with the fancy of the day. (lately foot long subway turkey, L, T, xtra pickles & black olives, mayo & oil-of course Diet Coke). If I don't stop this, in the fall when she is in kindergarten I can treat myself 5 days a week! How about when both kids are in school all day 5 days? I could do Breakfast AND lunch! This has to stop NOW for me. My weight is beginning to get in the way of my life and every year it gets worse. I can barely fit into resturant booths any more. My jeans that used to be baggy are now tight or don't fit at all. Im am officially in a size 24. I have a beautiful bicycle rotting in my garage. My house feels like it is getting smaller, when its me getting bigger. Getting around Disney World last summer was an embarresment. We are going again when my son is 4 and at this rate, I'll be riding a handicap scooter. I was diagniosed with rhumetoid arthritis 5 years ago after the birth of my DD Sarah. Basically, I stopped physically moving except to take care of the kids. (had son Rhett 16 months ago). The Arthrits is only getting worse as the pounds pile on. I eat to soothe everything. Its the only thing I have left that is MINE. after a year of considering the surgery and realizing I cannot fight this weight alone anymore and 6+ months of jumping thru hoops for my insurance company, I am having my lapband surgery on April 30. I know this is for me, I am at peace with my decision, and it's not cheating. From reading so many posts, this is hard, hard work! keep educating yourself, the more you read about it, the more you will want it! The pro's outweigh the con's a million to one! Kelly
  25. Hi Yaz, 22 is so young! check out most of the ages of all the great replys. These people talk from experience! I'm 39 and WOW how things have changed since I was 22! Keep the band in, the battle just gets harder the older you get (Dammit, my Mom WAS right) I will be banded April 30th and I KNOW I am going to regret it for a while. I am pre-warning my husband!
