That just STINKS! Maybe you can try Jamberry nail covers? I don't know if you would have the same reaction but you could check . . . my friend had a party for this product recently I haven't tried them yet. They have lots of pretty designs though! Google Jamberry or look on YouTube for how to apply them.

So I live in Japan, and it's a beautiful country but every time I step outside of my apartment All I see are beautiful and skinny Japanese girls. It does get depressing at times. But, on to my story.
I had to go to the lady clinic today, and after an hour and a half of waiting for a 5 second chat with the doctor for my refills, she says the nurse will need to check my blood pressure. Not so bad right?? Well that is actually the depressing part of my visits. My blood pressure is fine, but they always have to get the next size up on the arm thing to check my BP. And now that I write this I feel stupid for getting so upset over that but it's a little embarrassing to have this tiny size 0 Japanese girl attempt to take my bp only to try to shove my fat arm into the wrap and then have to go get a bigger size because it's too small.
I'm having my gastric sleeve surgery in December and I'm just ready to start my life over and not get so emotional when something small happens.
    Sorry about the rant.

For some reason, I was thinking Sept 29 is my 1 month, but it was actually Sept 26. Started going to the gym about two weeks ago...no lifting yet, just cardio. No problems so far with food intake and no pain anywhere. My pre- surgery weight Sept 24 was 237. As of today I am 197! So far it's been a smooth ride... Especially the weight loss! I think at week 3, I thought I was hitting the dreaded "stall", but was wrong! Knock on wood...please no stall soon! My wife and sons are now noticing that I'm getting smaller and smaller. Good luck everyone!

My nutirtionist emphasized that lack of Protein was the main reason why you lose your hair. She told me my goal is to have at least 75 gm of Protein each day.

I wondered about the same things. After surgery, if you get the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, you will have less than 40% of your original stomach left (depending on the doctor. Ask him.). The remainder will be removed permanently. Your remaining tiny stomach (shaped like a bannana) will feel full with a very small portion of food. I eat three teaspoons of yogurt and I stop eating. You must also eat and drink a lot slower. So, "Does it function NORMALLY"? Yes and no. It is a LOT smaller.
As for the staples: I asked my doctor and he said that they are very tiny and stay in place forever. He has never heard of them getting loose and causing problems. My doctor told me they do not cause problems going through airport screening devices, for example. They are made of titanium, which is non-ferrous - not steel or Iron. They never rust.
Removing a big section of the stomach has been done for many years as a result of having an ulcer, for example. Doctors noticed that those who had sleeve gastrectomies also lost weight as a result of the operation. So they eventually used sleeve gastrectomies to curb appetite and facilitate weight loss. As with all information, ask your surgeon. He/she is the authority. Do not be shy to ask. It's your body.

Hey everyone....I am still pre op and doing obsessive research about health eating and all that jazz. One thought kinda goes unanswered. I've been overweight my entire life so I don't know what a thin me looks like or feels like. For others who had never been thin before surgery is it a big adjustment looking at the new body that starts to appear and do you still physically feel big or do you just all of a sudden feel different. I don't know if this question makes sense...but I'm trying to imagine being thin and with no previous experience I don't know...
Thanks for any answers if you understand what I'm asking!

    Here's my story!
I've struggled with my weight my entire life. Blah, blah, blah! This is, I'm sure, the same story for most of us. I've tried all diets and have had a lot of success only to see the weight gradually come back the minute I stopped exercising and "dieting". I haven't stepped on a scale for over 7 years nor did I go to the doctor's office in this time frame. Quite frankly, I didn't want to hear the number, my weight. In the spring I started doing research on weight loss surgery and decided to move forward and attend a seminar. I was so impressed! Even though this was not covered by my insurance and I paid out of pocket, I moved forward with RNY. I didn't really "diet" prior to surgery but I didn't go on a eating binge either. I only had to do a 3 day surgery prep and had my surgery on July 14, 2014. This is my "before" and "during" pics. The last 3 months have truly been life changing. I've learned so much from this site and others. I look at food so much differently now. I don't consider myself as being on a "diet". Instead, I just choose to eat really healthy foods. I've stuck to a really low carb/high Protein diet. Pretty much the same for all of us. I really enjoy reading all of your stories and get something out of all of them. As of today, just about 3 1/2 months post op, I am down about 85 lbs! Here's to the next 3 months!!!

I started out at 225 when I first met my surgeon. Day of surgery 5-7-14 I was 215 & still at 36 BMI. I stuck with her orders and still follow them today. I'm now at 148 I'm 5'5" and in a size 7 Jean. I am grateful to have my life back and feel better physically and emotionally. I love my new life and appreciate my surgeon deeply.

I am very encouraged by this thread. I have received approval from insurance and I am waiting to schedule surgery. Lately, I have been having thoughts of "what if I fail at this too". I'm 35, 5' 3, and 220. I'm hoping to get down to 140.

Measure your food intake then. I use ramekins that are equivalent to 4-5 oz, and when I'm either full or they are empty, I stop eating. I know if I don't measure, I will want to overeat, and I had this surgery to stop those nasty habits. Good luck!

Every surgeon seems to have their own post op routine. They all have the same goal. It is to allow your stomach to heal. Follow your surgeons recommendations.

@@JDD713 - I was in the same boat as you. I am actually on my 1 month anniversary today. Exactly 20 lbs lost. Although the day of surgery I was 207, which I was never really at for more than a day or two (perhaps from my "last few meals were "big or go home" festivals".) lol. But today I'm 180 lbs. I'm 5' 7". I've been working out for about a week - I've never had issues with exercise. i actually love it. I was a collegiate athlete... which is why I think I have an issue with food as I used to eat however, whatever, whenever I wanted - and if I gained 10 lbs EVER... I could work it off and drop it in a week.
Fast forward 15 yrs - I'm 35 yro. I have a 2 yro and 5 yro. I could not break 175lbs after my second baby and that was after 21 days of STRICT HCG protocol. The second i went off of the diet... I popped right back to about 185.
That is also with 2x a day workouts.
I paid $17,500 out of pocket as I don't even come close to the "requirements" for insurance to help out. However, I sleep through the night amazingly, my scars are less than a quarter inch, which is amazing. and I hope to have the 50 lbs totally gone by Thanksgiving. :-)
Best of luck! I'm so glad I did this. I'm glad I didn't wait a second more than I did. I'm going to still have at least half of my 30's to rock it out hot and confident. :-)

I HATE my job, so I was off for 5 weeks, but I did have a little complication with dehydration ... fortunately we all caught it in time, and a fill up later-good to go
Most people have a problem with the anethesia more than anything else...so once that's out of your system, you will do better.
Just no LIFTING! What most of us forget, is even tho there are just a few small scars on the outside; on the inside we look like Frankensteins monster...so we have to wait for all that to heal up before we feel good all over!
    Good luck!

Last year on my 45th Birthday (November 4) I told myself it was time to make a major change in my life. For 23 years I've not liked what I've seen in the mirror so I decided to make a change. After a lot of research I chose to chose to be "sleeved". I just got my surgery date and its November 13th! I'm so hyped and ready to do this. In order to encourage my kids I often tell them a year will pass regardless of what you do but where you'll be at the end of that year is up to you. I choose to be a thinner, healthier me.
