30 years old (although I was 29 at the time of surgery), 5'2, starting weight 237, current weight 150. My surgery was 9/9/13, so I'm almost exactly 11 months out. I still have about 20 pounds to hit my goal.
I also read the stories of other people before surgery, although after surgery I was too focused on my own loss to be overly concerned that someone else might be losing faster than me. I do support the weighing everyday idea because it helps you recognize patterns in your weight loss. For example, I tend to get stuck around the 6's...196, 186, 176, 166, and just most recently 156, but I could go back and look at my weight (which I wrote on a calendar everyday) and see that the stall was normal and it would break in a few weeks, which prevented me from getting frustrated.
    Good luck with your procedure!

45 years old, 5'5"; HW 238; SW 216; CW 145. I never wrote down what my weight loss was as I went, so I don't know what I lost 1 month, 2 months out, etcetera. According to my ticker I met goal weight on 7/7 ( 6 1/2 months ). I STRONGLY suggest you don't weigh yourself daily or compare yourself to others. The unhappiest people on these boards are the ones that do. I only weighed about 2-3 times/month in the beginning, then weekly, now a couple times/month, mostly to have something to put on my ticker.
Gauge your success by how you feel, how your clothes fit and all the other NSV's that matter way more than numbers on a scale. For me, my milestones and highlights were my rings fitting (but now they're too big), being able to shop for clothes in regular stores, crossing my legs, not feeling obsessed by food, not drinking alcohol, my knees and feet not hurting everyday, and having to buy a new saddle because my butt got way too small for my old one.

It is absolutely safe to get pregnant once your weight stabilizes. This surgery actually helps to boost your fertility and also resolve many metabolic and reproductive abnormalities. But it is always safer to wait for at least 18 months after the surgery to get pregnant,to go through a safe and stress free pregnancy.

Welcome! I haven't had the surgery yet, but I think it's great to have the surgery option--- it's effective and the weight loss is more easily sustainable than yo yo dieting. You wind up healthy and minimize the chances of diabetes, sleep apnea, joint problems/replacements. Deal with the skin issues afterwards, if you need to. There are lots of success stories here!

I'm 5'3", my height weight was 265. There are pics on my profile, my after pic was about 40 lbs ago, having lost half of myself you'd think I'd have rolls of skin. Not the case. Loose skin has a number of factors, those who exercise more have less of it, genetics and age coem into play, and how long you've been obese. People that meet me now, if I don't tell them I lost half of myself, they'd never know. I look fabulous in clothes. That being said, yes I do have a little roll on my belly, I have 'bet wing' arms, but not as bad as one might imagine, my thighs are sad, my girls are sagging and we won't even begin to talk about the rump with wrinkles. However, who see's you neked besides your significant other? My hubby still loves me and always will. I may have plastics in the future, but they say don't do it until you're stable for a full 2 years because your skin continues to shrink. I'm a little over 18 months out, and I am loving it and still slowly losing. Loose skin is SO not a thing!

Who cares about skin??? You'll be HEALTHY and feel AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! That's the IMPORTANT factor, not the skin!! Deal with the skin, after you lose the weight, in whichever way you want to deal with it, for now, go for it, get healthy, change your life around and feel awsome! My ONLY regret is not having this done sooner. I've had no complications, no set backs and feel like I haven't felts in over 30 years!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck!

It is a personal call. But I personally think it's worth it. I'm only a little over two months out but all I know is that I weigh 50 pounds less than I weighed in April because I lost in the presurgery diet iambs so much healthier. Good luck to you

I only wish I had done this a long time ago instead of doing the dieting thing over and over and over and over and over.

Hi! I'm 5'0 and was 254 at the time of my surgery. I'm 6 months out have lost 84lbs and I don't have any loose skin so far. And I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I was lifting weights before and after surgery. I still have another 50 lbs to go if I have loose skin so what. The surgery was the best thing I could do for myself. Good luck
